This Week Inside Sim Racing – Mid January

Darin Gangi has released a new episode of This Week Inside Sim Racing alongside some significant news.

Darin Gangi has released a new episode of This Week Inside Sim Racing alongside some significant news.

While the new episode of TWISR delivers the usual sim racing news roundup, something is different as the show is now solely hosted by Darin, following Shaun Cole’s departure from sim racing’s most popular Youtube show.

Shaun was a founding member of SRT, having made an appearance in pretty much every episode since 2008. Good luck with whatever you’ll be up to next, Shaun!

Shaun Cole was the reason i subscribed in the first place he will be missed from the show now to get Darin Gangi and Alan Boiston to do a show together

    • Anonymous

Alan Boiston doesn’t do DIY or Sim rig building, he is more into console racing, not that, that’s a bad thing, plus Alan is from the UK, and new to pc simracing.
http://www.reddit.com/r/simracing/comments/1vy8ob/shaun_cole_has_left_inside_sim_racing/ taken from a post by Simstar @ http://www.bsimracing.com more info on the split.

Alan is WAY the best placed guy to step into these shoes. Perhaps no coincidence that he is moving into the PC arena a lot more now, with a quite awesome sponsored rig.

I have no clue who Alan is but I also don’t get why someone would downvote you for supporting him. Probably Gangi. lol.

      • Chris Wright

Actually I didn’t notice the bit about working with Mr Gangi. I was referring to Alan to do his own thing. He doesn’t need Darin.

      • http://s1.zetaboards.com/SimSkinsByDen/index/ PetrolheadDen

Maybe this guy Alan should start his own “show” then from the sound of it. Then he wouldn’t have SRT’s baggage and Darin’s habitual dramaqueen antics pre-judging him. That and if he did that, I’d actually watch it and see how he does.

Thanks Chris. Book marked them and will find time tomorrow to watch. Cheers!

      • Chris Wright

Cool. Actually Alan is no newcomer to videocasting. His show has been exponentially improving at the same time as the Spokane Twins’ show has imploded on them in an orgiastic display of iRacing boot licking.

      • http://s1.zetaboards.com/SimSkinsByDen/index/ PetrolheadDen

Imploded for many reasons mostly to do with one of them.

1 down vote eh? looks like Darin didn’t like you posting an alternative to his “show”. lmao

It’s sad that Shaun “the builder” Cole isn’t part of the the show anymore. I wish him all the best for his future projects.
I loved his car setup tipps (using a RC model) and also all the DIY-SimRig videos. Building the “Deathmobile” and the Ricmotech-Rig was great fun to watch.

    The show is done.

  • The Dark

no disrepect to Darin but with Shaun gone now I dont think i will watch any more of these shows. I am sure Darin can still make the show good on his own but from things that have happened publically in the past with Darin i dont feel comfortable watching it now.
Shaun seemed like a real genuine guy and i think he was the better half of the pair. I wish Darin best of luck for the future and hope he finds a new “friend” to co star in the show.

    • http://s1.zetaboards.com/SimSkinsByDen/index/ PetrolheadDen

Darin’s main problem now is that next time he has one of his famous online meltdowns or launch’s a personal attack on someone (Or sim racers in general as he has.) he won’t be able to hide from the fallout while Shaun hosts the show.

      • The Dark

yeah exactly. his past isnt stain free with the community unfortunately.

  • http://s1.zetaboards.com/SimSkinsByDen/index/ PetrolheadDen

Most likely Shaun got tired of dealing with Darin’s massive ego and constantly having to do damage control. Or maybe Darin got his Mommy to kick Shaun out of the basement so he could be the big Youtube “Cewebrity” he see’s himself as. lol.

Do you think posts like this raise you above the level you believe Darin lives on? To me you look the smaller man (both in height and maturity), and on that last point, that’s not so easy to achieve, so well done.

      • http://s1.zetaboards.com/SimSkinsByDen/index/ PetrolheadDen

I “believe” he lives on? I know what he is. Trust me on that. I really loved when he referred to sim racers in general as “nobodies” in comparison to himself and he personally PM’d me to tell me what a huge celebrity he thinks he is and how much better he is than us mere mortals. I have no problem warning people that he is a grade A jerk. There’s good reason he never lasted at Fanatec I suspect. Myself, I sold my Fanatec stuff the minute he started working for them. My first thought was that if one had a problem at that point, with him being “customer service”, that last thing they needed was Darin Gangi screaming at their customers “DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM!!!!!???!!! I AM A SIM GOD!!!” lol. The nice thing recently is that the REAL Gangi is starting to be shown for what he is as many people have had “experiences” with his conceit and arrogance. I’m not much of a fan of actual celebrities so I’m sure not impressed by a ceWEBrity with a Youtube “show”. HAHAHAHAA!!

      • Chris Wright

We all know his shortcomings, but at the end of the day I’d rather have something than nothing to watch, even if it is the lovely, modest, ever considerate Darin.

      • http://s1.zetaboards.com/SimSkinsByDen/index/ PetrolheadDen

HAHAHA!! Maybe so Chris but i have to disagree on that one. Nothing wrong with that though. If we all thought the same, the world’d be a pretty boring place. Whatever happened to Doug’s show?

I senseless posts like this one put Shaun off the most…

  • Roger Wallentin

Sad to see Shaun leave, he was the guy you could trust to give his honest opinion about things.

I think Darin feels quite bad about things at the moment, but I wish him best of luck with the show. Hope he gets some help with the editing which was a bit lacking in this episode.

    • http://s1.zetaboards.com/SimSkinsByDen/index/ PetrolheadDen

I don’t honestly think Darin is capable about feeling bad about anything as he is too much of a narcissist to care. Most likely, if we hear anything about this, it’ll be Darin ranting on his “show” and blaming Shaun.

      • Roger Wallentin

I think Darin feels bad about himself being left alone to run the show and trying his best desperately to hold on to it.

Darin is a good speaker but I don’t like his personality too much. I will still view the show (at least the interesting parts with reviews on relevant stuff).

  • Chris Wright

It’s getting to be a sim racing version of the Mary Celeste up there in Spokane is it not?
Broadcasting on your own with no one to bounce off is really hard and you could easily sense how awkward Darin felt throughout this update.
Shaun has made a major contribution to this hobby, although I think it would be entirely fair to observe that this is not the influential show it once was. Maybe he senses that? Who knows, anyway all the best to Shaun.
To be fair to Darin his last review of the new Thrustmaster wheel was the most balanced and thorough thing to come out of the ISR studios in a long time, but it does look, at least to this observer, as if the rot has well and truly set in.
Still I wish Darin nothing but good fortune, as the hobby needs a good regular videocast. Sadly, ISR in its current form is not the solution. Maybe significant change will come following Shaun’s move.
A good start would be a concerted effort to cover all current titles in the hobby and what the heck if iRacing doesn’t like it.

    • Dean Doucette

“A good start would be a concerted effort to cover all current titles in the hobby and what the heck if iRacing doesn’t like it.”.
You said it! When I first discovered the show, I was excited, but after awhile, I discovered the show was nothing more than a showcase for IRacing.

    • http://s1.zetaboards.com/SimSkinsByDen/index/ PetrolheadDen

I would agree on the point about Shaun. He at least has indeed tried to make a positive contribution. Perhaps he will now be able to do something on his own without worrying about Darin doing even more damage to this hobby than he already has. If so, (and even if not, lol,) best of luck to Shaun’;s future endeavors.

I just wanted to give credit to inside sim racing for helping me get up to date on sim racing, and what wheel and pedals to buy. I was glad to find an authority on the subject, and I will always look to them for advice. Thank you!
