Sportscars Unlimited for rFactor 2 – First Previews

The Virtua_LM Junior Team has announced their Sportscars Unlimited mod for rFactor 2.

Following the successful release of their epic GTPC mod for rFactor, the Virtua_LM Junior Team is heading for new horizons by announcing their Sportscars Unlimited project for rFactor 2.

The mod will include some of the team’s most favorite historical sports cars, not necessarily limited to the Group C days.

As has become Virtua_LM’s trademark, the team is paying attention to all the small details, producing race-specific versions of each car that reflect even the smallest changes in aero-parts or liveries.

Below are the first previews, showing off the Intrepid RM1 in several different versions that were raced in the IMSA series. Aside from the Intrepid, the team has also announced to be working on the Gebhardt c91 & Brun c901.

While work on the new rFactor 2 mod is in full swing, the team isn’t completely done with rFactor yet as patch for their popular GTPC mod is in the works as well!

Probably one of the best news for RF2

  • hexagramme

    OH YES! Awesome news!

  • Marc Collins

Everything Virtua_LM has released has been of sterling quality and leading-edge for its time. This will likely be the same, but even more exciting because it will now rest upon the most capable, if so far chaotic and under-utilized, sim racing platform.

  • Jetexocet

Great news for rf2, but considering it took at least 8 years of dedication for GTPC, how long could this take?. I might be in a care home before this one’s released.

    • Noel Hibbard

Oh geez not this again. Hahaha

    • john

Then you will need explain to care home staff, that mounting simracing wheel on the only dining table in the room is really fundamental thing for your hobby 🙂

      • Jetexocet

The problem is with ffb. It’ll probably snap my arms off at that age. Funny to see the staff looking at my wheel with two arms stuck to it and no body.

  • Wilsch

Golden age of racing. Please do the 7 liter V12 Jaguar…

  • UzairH

This is great news 🙂 I do wonder though how much content will be included from the GTPC mod. I would love to see the Group C cars in rFactor 2. I hope the VLM team do indeed include all (or most) of the GTPC stuff in it, or otherwise port that mod over to RF2.

The GTPC mod is why I play RF1 still, but that mod is a bit long in the tooth. I don’t know how much effort is involved in the porting though. Hopefully not too much 🙂

  • Gui Cramer

Great news! I am just a bit skeptical on feasibility given the race specific stuff. That killed CTDP’s F1 mods.

  • Richard Hessels

Totally love their previous work, but making 10 version of essentially the same car is suspect they get it out just before rF3 hits the market.

    • Vivemclaren

I did more version for 956 indeed 🙂

    • http://www.virtua-lm.cm/ Freddy Stapersma

It is not that much work.
And we love this kind of small details.
For us it is fun to do that kind of research too. 😉

  • Vivemclaren

First thing to add, we will release small packs, from 2 to 4 cars 🙂 So it will be faster than GTPC of course.

We will wait for datas about Brun C91, Gebhardt C91/C901/G4. So we will consider other cars too. First I must finish Intrpid 🙂

    • hexagramme

That is a really good release plan imo.

  • RangaTanga

Holy mother of… racing! This is awesome news!
IMSA and WSPC had their peak in 1989 if you ask me, I do hope to see cars from that season!

  • Chris Wright

I was definitely among the first in line when GTPC was released during the holidays. I thought it would be sim racing nirvana and, to an extent, it was/is, until the extremely unfinished rF1 AI quickly reared its head. It did spark off a wave of nostalgia that has seen me focusing on classics with great AI ever since, namely GPL and NR2003. So I absolutely welcome this new announcement from the Virtua LM Junior Team, as rF2 has excellent AI and this should be another benchmark mod. Sadly, however, I think we all need to settle in for a very long wait, given the lifetime it seemed to take until GTPC hit the streets.

    • Richard Hessels

Big part in the bad behaviour of the rF1 AI drivers are the trackmakers. Look at GSCex. They still use the same AI code as rF1 but much better optimized.

      • Chris Wright

That’s a fair point Richard, but it seems a shame that ISI left it to the community to get the coding right. They didn’t make that error with rF2, which is encouraging I guess.

      • Noel Hibbard

Even in rF2 it is highly dependent on the AIW file. ISI’s tracks have really good AIW files and their tracks are most common so it gives the whole sim a better name. I’m not saying the AI hasn’t become more intelligent. Actually in recent builds it’s come a very long ways. But it’s still dependent on the AIW files. Some track devs totally neglect the AIW. Even VLM Sebring has a garage spot in the middle of T17. 🙂

      • Gui Cramer

(which you fixed on that Legends-League Sebring download)

    • http://www.virtua-lm.cm/ Freddy Stapersma

did you race ai with our tracks?? I did AI training on many of our tracks.
and they are added to the install. They helped a lot.

      • Chris Wright

Hi Freddy, yes I did. Issues started with never being able to get out of the Le Mans pit area in the older two tracks without AI cars piling into me. Am I doing something wrong?

      • http://www.virtua-lm.cm/ Freddy Stapersma

Yeah that is has been a problem with our LM all the time..
        but not for racing itself.

      • Chris Wright

It pretty much means I have to either a) time accelerate until almost every car is on track or b) disable damage. I wish there were an option to use the front pits at VLM Le Mans.

  • svdb

Will have to get RF2 when this hits the release! I’ve sticked to AC so far for reasons, but it might be worth it to get the best of both worlds.

  • Kev

    Oh my! Yes! YES!

  • http://planetmarrs.net/ Marcel Offermans

Great news. I hope they consider releasing the cars one by one and maybe polling the community about what cars we are looking forward the most. Like others have mentioned here, the Group C era is great, and I would definitely want to see a few of those cars in rFactor 2.

    • Vivemclaren

We are a small team. Indeed I’m alone to model 3D. So, we will choose the first cars. If some news members will come or older member comes back, it is possible that we make a pool. But not now 😉

      A Beta tester learn 3D modelling 🙂

      • http://planetmarrs.net/ Marcel Offermans

Not trying to put pressure on you guys, I am fully aware of the enormous amount of work this is. Looking forward to it, and good luck!
