rFactor Turns 10 Years Old!

Image Space Incorporated is celebrating ten years of rFactor as their trusted gMotor 2 powered simulation has been released exactly a decade ago!

rFactor was ISI’s first stand-alone product after making various titles for Electronic arts such as the still-legendary SCGT, the Formula One Series and NASCAR Thunder.

Despite coming with various, mostly-fictional, stock content, rFactor was aimed towards the modding community from the very beginning, giving the talent in the sim racing community the required tools to create create content themselves, a strategy that worked out well and inspired other modding-oriented titles like Assetto Corsa.

To celebrate the simulation’s big birthday, ISI is taking players down the nostalgia avenue by releasing one of rFactor’s stock tracks and a car to go along with it as Sardian Heights and the Kodi ZR can now be used inside rFactor 2.

The content release isn’t solely to celebrate rFactor but also to show off an important part of rFactor 2’s future as the car and track have been converted using ISI’s upcoming gJED tool that is supposed to give rFactor 2’s modding scene a major boost.

According to the studio, both car and track have been converted with just a few hours of working using the new tool despite having been equipped with many of rFactor 2’s specific features, hopefully giving modders some incentive to port their existing rFactor mods over to the new platform.

gJED is planned to be available later this week, more info on the tool is available here.

    rFactor turns 10 turn 10 turns 10

    • JLunar

An unfortunate comparison to say the least : /

      • QUF

Unfortunate? Both games make people happy. I don’t see how that’s unfortunate.

      • Charles Sami Amyouni

I think he meant rFactor is a game and Turn10 is a company.

      • QUF

Forza original was released in 2005, so that makes it 10 years too. Turn10 studios was established in 2001, with their first game coming out 4 years later, according to wikipedia and
So I guess AnklaX should have said forza also makes 10 years this year, but maybe he just wanted to make it sound more interesting by mentioning the studio’s name, instead of the game, which makes 10 years.

      • Tim Wheatley

For any software dev to be 23 is CRAZY really. Very few make it that long.

      • AnklaX

I just wrote it cuz I thought it would be fun to read it out loud and fast.

  • apex55

Wow! I can’t believe its been 10 years. Thank you rFactor for the many years of memories and for introducing me to sim racing.

BTW I’m excited to see the impact gJED will make. It could be the “nitrous in the engine” that rF2 has needed. This tool is definitely a game changer.

  • Charles Sami Amyouni

rFactor 10 years old now – GTR2 will turn 9 years old, 27 days from now. Time flies when you’re on the driver seat.

  • gimmelbop

Sports Car GT was really awesome, it’s what got me into sim racing. Sadly, it is also the only ISI product I’ve enjoyed.

    • Leper Messiah

SCGT was the game that got me properly into sims too (dabbled in Geoff Crammonds GP series but with joysticks), got a Wingman formula Force and I think SCGT came free with it!

  • Niels Heusinkveld

What is this salty discharge coming from my eyes??

    • LogiForce

Must be sweat from your head that ran into your eyes after a lot of practice laps with that monster of a Simsteering wheel. Or you’re building something or doing some redecorating.
I doubt you’ve been swimming in the sea with this weather, so that can’t be it.

If all of that is wrong… you tell me. :/

    • Henk Ensing

A few tears I guess Niels. Not to worry, I cry a river every time I see a video of F1GP 😉

  • Pedro Melim

Nice to see a “game” is still played after 10 years. It was rfactor that made me come into simracing, and its stil the main sim i do my races. FYI would be nice some discount for rf2 with this date hehehe

  • Pe11e

Wow, already? If I were using rF still today, I would be shocked. But wait, I’m using full time FSX (Flight SImualtor X) which is 8 years old, so…

    • RapidRefund

I still use rF1 and I like it better then any new title. However GTR2 is and was my favorite and still blows all modern sims out of the water. AFAIAC

  • Manuel Riger

the quality of the car ( physics) and track overall surprised me tbh. They said they made this in short time in few ours with gjed. So does gjed now change the complete rfactor 2 modding scene ?

    • Tim Wheatley

It should. Whether it does? We’ll be talking about that in a few years. 🙂

  • Herr Igor

    rF1 is everlasting!

  • Dean Doucette

My first step into sim racing was via RFactor, followed closely by GTR2. Respect!

  • Pablo Coronel

    I’m old.

    • Nathan Robinson

      Exactly what I was thinking.

    • RapidRefund

      With an Old Elitist attitude

  • Gulyás Tamás

    rFactor1 was fantastic, rF2………….

    • ftrracingtv

rF2 will get there to once gJED is fully out making modding easier

      • Pablo Coronel

It’s already easy to mod, but no for everyone, just for simmers.

    • Pablo Coronel

rF2 is the best! no console, no steam, no carrer, no simcade, The King.

      • Gulyás Tamás

      • RapidRefund

Not not yet and not close due to not enough content. The things you base your opinion on are irrelevant basically.

  • MC

I was still playing F1C with the Ralph Hummerich mods 10 years ago, can I join the ISI party? 🙂 I guess that series did a lot for modding.

  • Herr Igor

It’s aged pretty well, hasn’t it? rF1 is everlasting! 😉

  • Ilidio de Sousa

Thanks ISI, Ive been a follower since Sports Car GT, Through your contributions in the sim racing world, many nations have become one 🙂
