  • honsel

    looks loke comiccars …

    • Anthony Birch

who know’s honsel, perhaps with some experience & knowledge under their belts their mod might become as good as yours someday

  • Anonymous

Looks pretty ugly!!! Let’s see how it drives? 1.68gb really?

    • Anonymous

I don’t want to come across rude, but this mod really doesn’t do rf2 any justice.

      • F1Racer

Harsh. (Well it was until you edited it).

      • Anonymous

Didn’t mean to be harsh. If it comes out that way I do apologize.

      • F1Racer

It’s ok. It’s your opinion. 🙂 But to suggest a mod might be made on purpose to make rF2 look bad is certainly an original criticism. If I was the modder I`d feel pretty insulted at that after all my work.
Not all modders are on the same level and rF2 is a new modding platform. But I think most have the same goal in mind, which is to give us something for free that maybe someone else other than themselves, can enjoy.
I say most because there are some out there who want to rush out or rip mods for the kudos or their 15mins of fame rather than do it for the passion, But thats just my opinion.

Personally I’d like to see mods pretty complete before they are released and not so many 0.1, 0.3 releases.
The “Lets rush it out now and add the rest later.” mindset. Sometimes later never comes.

      • Anonymous

I agree. That’s why I edited post. I was wrong in coming to such conclusion . I owe an apology to TCR. So, I hope all is well.

      • Anthony Birch

and dont forget F1Racer……..it doesn’t hurt to have a variety of mods in any platform, i myself have had enough of the BTCC type mods, full of bmw, porsche, ferrari, volvo, pagani etc etc. nothing wrong with those of course but i do tire of them. much prefer the classic muscle car mods, or even my favourite, ‘drag racing’……..(for rf1…www.dragfactor.net)

      • F1Racer

Variety is what it’s all about.

      • Anonymous

My point was you can’t always judge a book by it’s cover but with the slow DL rate and the size of the thing it takes a bit of time to get to the first page. I’m thinking it’s a conversion from rF1

  • Anonymous

    I know graphics aren’t everything but… isnt this 2014?

    • Anonymous

Graphics are everything, Simbin, Iracing, SMS and Kunos have shown what can be achieved.
ISI should control the quality of third party mods released for their rfactor 2 platform, some content are showing rfactor2 in a unfair way, been as it is still in development, could be bad for business.

      • horrace

If it does not come from ISI then we should know why some of the mods are the way they are, its been like that since I have been in this sport, and the the regulars will let you know when its crap a day after it is released, sometimes minutes after it is released Rfactor 2 is not the only sim that suffers from that all of em do.Some of the modders who are just starting and want to be better monitor the forums where they post and will make changes to make their mods better, so lets give them a chance and not scare them off, after all it is their time and effort that’s being offered too.

      • Kendra Jacobs

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. No they are sims, driving is everything. Graphics is only important to sell more copies to kids and noobs who don’t know anything about driving and they just pick which one looks prettier.

      • Péter Kerényi

A simulator should simulate not only the car, but represent the environment as well as technologically possible… I like rF2, but I can’t belive I’m driving a car in it… Except for the best quality mods and tracks, problem is there aren’t nearly enough. I’d even buy the URD packs but it’s not worth it for the small amount of tracks I accept from a graphical point of view :/

  • https://www.behance.net/NicolasGrignon Nicolas Grignon

I hope some of these great mods will come to AC one day… RF2 is really not up to date graphically… it looks so much like RF1…

    • Aaron Carlisle

I’m guessing you haven’t seen tracks like Croft, Poznan, Silverstone, Top Gear Test Track, etc… or newer cars like the Civic, Karts or Panoz. rFactor 2 can look very good if the people making the content know how to properly use shaders and such. But, I will agree… When everything is bone standard such as this, it definitely can look underwhelming.

      • Anonymous

But the same will be with AC…
I just wait for the first crap mods released for AC. The quality of the mod still depends on the modder’s skill I guess ^^

      • jaka

I agree, but thing is, very average mod(specially cars) in AC will probably look better, than rF2 bests. Modders for AC will have big advantage because graphic engine is just in another league.

      • Realkman666

AC is not that bad. It’s not very complex, but at least it looks clean.

      • Kendra Jacobs

Ok and very average mod(specially cars) in rf2 will probably drive better, than ac bests. So what is your point? These are racing sims and you’re deciding which one is better because of graphics?

      • jaka

Lol, what is yours? Just saying from modders perspective about modding and advantage in graphic and how will modders have easier work in that part to achieve good results simply by a fact that even simplest models look very good. I am not in any way talking about which sim is better by judging graphic. I am not getting in another sim war. Actually if you read between lines, i am actually defend rF modders, which have a harder job to squeeze out a graphical quality mod.

      • Wally

Bang on. Some mods especially from the early days did rfactor 2 no real favours.

That said, I’m just quietly smirking at the narrow minded rfactor 2 haters who are clueless as to how much this sim is coming on these days. The quality rfactor 2 stuff these days is top notch.

Rfactor 2 , Assetto Corsa, pCars, iRacing…….. It dont matter which sim is the best, the fact is us PC sim racers aint had it so good or so much choice for years..

      • horrace

Right on Wally a couple years ago it was all about no one listening to us and some of us said to just wait and give the developers a chance, well here is the fruit of that waiting, Not one of these developers is sitting on their butts all of them are working at the best pace that they can muster, and the modders are trying to keep pace too! Their creations are getting better and better, I just installed another hard drive for just the sims and their content, I was not going to buy assetto until it had AI, well now it does and it is next on my list. I do enjoy the information on this forum, it has made my sim racing life and a lot easier and enjoyable with some of the comments.

      • Danny Oliveira

        damn straight!

    • wajdi nujeidat

      URD mod any one?!

      http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/KJdB69Ak8g4/maxresdefault.jpg

      Civic? Poznan//////////////

      • Realkman666

His PC probably can’t run it at these settings. Be understanding, please.

    • Wally

I’ll judge it when its a version 1.0

    • Big Ron

Well, rFactor 2 doesn´t look that bad. It can look pretty decent if you make full advantage of the settings. It´s the mod that looks so old and they´ve probably not even used highest visual settings for the trailer. I mean, the cars seem to not even have reflection shaders and stuff.

  • Marc Collins

Gigantic download and so far, completely useless. If I load one the cars, the entire sim goes into a weird slow motion like there is a time warp happening. Frame rates are normal, but it is completely unplayable 🙁

  • F1Racer

Garish coloured cars. Maybe some modders need a tutorial for applying the proper shaders. I`d be interested to see that myself even as a non-modder.

Also you get car liveries that use RGB 255,255,255 for white and RGB 0,0,0 for black which is a definite no-no. Basic errors imo.
255,255,255 is unrealistic because no white paint is ever THAT bright. A nuclear blast maybe.
0,0,0 is unrealistic for the same reason with black. BUT… in game (and I know this from rendering) if you make a black car and use black with 0,0,0 then it’s the darkest colour there is and thus you cannot ever cast a shadow on it.

Now I dunno if that’s the case wit this mod as I’ve only seen the video but I know it’s common and just wanted to mention it 🙂

    • http://lesuntzu.wordpress.com/ LeSunTzu

With proper shaders and specular maps, the ingame reflections and lighting let you see shadows and highlights just fine on plain white or black paints.

      • F1Racer

There is no problem with the whites except that it is an unrealistic colour. The shadow issue only happens with the absolute black and I’m not convinced shaders can work around that.

      • Pablo Coronel

Because of that you need an AO map, in specular layer and in alpha layer in rf2 case.

  • Dani .

Sports Car GT. Very old game.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIMGN1etXl4

    • Anonymous

How long ago was this game produced, and what engine does it use, never heard of it thank you for the link.

      • Dani .

ISI precursor to rFactor. Gmotor. I don’t know the year of release, but it’s old, and hey!! it has road reflections! 😀

      • Anthony Birch

there are those of us around that love the old cars more that the regular run of the mill mods that keep recycling the seemingly endless supply of boring bmw, ferrari, porsche, pagani cars.

and dont forget, its because of mods like this one that you have the mods of today.

      • Dani .

        It’s a game, not a mod.

      • Anthony Birch

rFactor2 is the game, this is a mod for it, same principal as rFactor1….trust me

      • Anthony Birch

the second sentence of the post, up the top of the page, it says…..[quote]The mod is a conversion of Team TCL’s hugely-popular Touring Car Legends mod for rFactor that was first released in 2009.[unquote]

      • Justin Schmidt

        release was 15 years ago.

      • Anonymous

15 years and there’s no progressive leap visually and lighting between this and rfactor 2, it’s all baby steps, Microsoft releases DirectX12 next year.

      • Anonymous

It’s too old to mess with! Basically it is less compatible with modern systems than GPL is. But holds a Sentimental Highlight in the Sim Racing World since it was ISI’s first Simulation title.

    • Michael Hornbuckle

Wow the memories!!! That was my first pc racing game, I even had a FFB wheel of some kind for it.

  • ftrracingtv

I have a feeling that if its not AC quality it must be rubbish when that’s not the case

  • http://stilz.mypage.cz/ BorekS

What a unbelievable crap looking conversion. Seems the conversion team is a band of total newbies.

    BorekS
    http://simgarage.nolimit.cz/

    • http://s1.zetaboards.com/SimSkinsByDen/index/ PetrolheadDen

That makes sense as TCL wasn’t done very well in the first place. I remember when it came out being excited as it had some of my favourite cars only to see how badly they were done and give up on it. It was also another factor that added to my not bothering with rFactor anymore as to be honest, rFactor mods in general weren’t much better and I went back to GTL where they tend to be of a much better quality in general. If rfactor2 is going to be the same old rFactor1 stuff rehashed then I may not even bother reinstalling it as even the tracks seem to be so far just old rFactor1 stuff converted.

      • http://stilz.mypage.cz/ BorekS

the problem isnt the game, but the sklil level of the mod creator.
not every is a good 2D or 3D artist, and in case of mod stuff conversions some people dunno zero about ingame materiál shader usage and hows things works infact.
thats the main problem. you always will see crap or mastrepieces, indpendedtly if it is a flightsim agme, 1st person shooter or race simulation 🙂

      • Mario Strada

I think these guys should try to find someone with the knowledge to update this mod.
Indeed when I race I don’t look at the car interior, but I do look at the other cars and these look like they were spray painted in day-glo and live on a planet with 4 suns and no shadows.

But beside that, they slow down rF2 to a crawl. Except for one car. I saw one car drive at a normal speed while the rest all drove at pit speeds or slower.

      • horrace

You are mad rfactor had some of the best mods out there yeh there were some bad ones, but overall they were fantanstic even some of the worst looking ones were great to drive, beauty can hide the vampire waiting to take you’re blood, yeah its good to have but it aint the be all either, and if they were that bad, than why does everyone wait on them ask for them, you are saying that GSC2013 is bad too!

      • http://s1.zetaboards.com/SimSkinsByDen/index/ PetrolheadDen

rFactor is like driving on ice with wooden wheels.

    • Anthony Birch

if the models looked as good as the current crop of mods then it would be a brand new mod, but they have obviously converted the rF1 version, so give them some credit for at least doing that, remember there will be some of us out there that can still enjoy and learn from their work, just sayin’

      • Anthony Birch

love the look of your Ferrari 312B mod, very sleek

  • Smulle Davidsson

When I drive I look at the road. Have you honestly tried it? Yes, it looks awful, but really enjoyable to drive.

    • Anonymous

So do we, but it’s a different story, when it comes to viewing the replays though.

  • Jim. C

This would look great in 2004.

    • Kendra Jacobs

I know man it looks like crap but seriously just drive it it man ull be addicted

      • Jim. C

Sorry, these kind of mods lose me when they look this bad. Just haven’t got the time of day for this when compared to what else is available.

      • Anthony Birch

thats sad……..so much disrespect for someone elses efforts. we are a spoilt lot arent we

  • AL_D

oh it can get even worse…

  • Obbzy~XR~

As a financial member of XFactor racing, who has been involved in the development of this conversion, I wanted to come on here and clear the air on some issues with our TCR mod.

Firstly, I would like to thank TMan, OllieC & the rest of the TCL crew for allowing us to convert this mod to rF2. Secondly, I would like to thank R1CHO (who has done the bulk of the conversion), the rest of the XFactor crew and beyond for their tireless work on getting this far with the mod.

I would direct everyone to the header of this post and note which version this is. v0.3! It is an early release. We realise fully that there are a number of graphical issues with the mod, the latest ISI updates have also caused HDR issues being one that we are currently working through. There will also be an update for each car that should address the offline AI framerate issue.

We released the mod at v0.3 specifically because it is the best way to garnish feedback. The XFactor team appreciate those on here and elsewhere that have provided useful, knowledgeable, constructive feedback. We believe our mod drives as well as any on rF2, though there are issues there too. Graphical deficiencies can be corrected, but it is primarily the physics of the car that we are interested in at this stage; we can ‘bling’ the cars closer to v1 release.

You should all at least try the mod & relay us some constructive feedback. If you have the time and ability to assist with mod physics, or do 3D modelling, you can contact us at xfactorracing.com to see if you can help [we don’t bite, much! ;-)]. To the OCD whingers and knockers, all I can advise you to do is to await further updates and watch how the mod progresses. We will be including some exciting developments over the coming months and we look forward to giving the sim racing community a quality product as we progress towards v1.0.

    Cheers 🙂

BTW the download link above doesn’t work apparently [not sure where that link came from?]. Go to xfactorracing.com for download links.

Works well boys – Well done and keep up the hard work. It doesn’t look that bad either and as you point out its a very early version. Don’t listen to the nayslayers on here. It amazes me that people complain about free mods. Like most of em they make anything themselves.

  • a1mone

Looks like a great mod. But I just do not see any benefit to upgrade from rf1 to rf2.

  • Kris Baxter

Best fun I’ve had in rF2 ever. Just a few pointers, dial down the sound for the squeaky breaks, sometimes that is all I can hear, obviously the reflections/env mapping needs dialling back some too and the AI need hardening up, at 108% they were still too slow.
    Otherwise looking promising.
