rFactor 2 – More HDR Previews

Following the first batch of HDR comparison shots, ISI has released some more HDR preview material of their upcoming rFactor 2 simulation.

HDR (High Dynamic Range rendering) is one of the post-processing effects ISI has been adding to their graphics engine and it makes quite a huge difference as you can see in the comparison shots below. rFactor 2 users will be able to control the amount of post-processing used by custom HDR profiles.

rFactor 2 will introduce various improvements to the modding-friendly simulation including weather, driver animations and a refined graphics engine alongside plenty of current and historic motor racing content. In aΒ recent blog, ISI’s Tim Wheatley hinted at an upcoming public beta phase for the title.

    Looking good πŸ™‚ .

I’m on the fence with this.  I think the non-HDR shots look just fine.

Well it will be configurable, so for me aswell the ideal balance would be somewhere in the middle.  They are just showing ‘none’ and ‘extreme’ to show the effect.  I’m pumped, it looks awesome!

I’ve had a play around in photoshop with other screens and mysteriously, it’s really difficult to make a change for the better using just levels and colours without clipping.

At this stage, I’m come to the decision that HDR should just be left to an automatic system that adjusts exposure on-the-fly like real life, and leave these HDR tools to a pause-menu photomode.

I’m sure colour diffusion (or bloom) will help somewhat, but not as much as ambient occlusion and more “inviting” road shaders – these are the post-fx we need.

what is up with the tire textures.?
are they not finished.? too grayish.

I think the heat haze coming from the brakes is a little excessive, but interesting nonetheless

Very impressive indeed! Imho a mid level effect would look perfect!

    It’s called dynamic for what?
Those are static, it’s impossible to evaluate or give some feedback.
Let me see a video onboard, in fullscreen and high quality, with daylight at 13.00 during summer, and maybe we can evaluate the effectiveness of the HDR post process then… give some proper feedback to ISIs.
