April Fools: Project CARS – Xbox 720 Sneak Preview

Slightly Mad Studios have released a first sneak peek of the console version of Project CARS.

Update: As many of you have already figured out, these shots are Slightly Mad Studio’s April Fools contribution! There’s some truth to them though as these screenshots show unedited footage of the current Project CARS build for the PC and it’s only a matter of time until console users will be able to enjoy similar graphics.

Slightly Mad Studios have released a first sneak peek of the console version of Project CARS.

Below are six previews, showing the next-gen console version of Project CARS running on a brand new platform – The Microsoft Xbox 720.

Microsoft’s next-gen console will obviously be very powerful as the preview show off some very impressive graphics and details, despite the console version being a rather early build and the SMS team pointing out that plenty of optimizations regarding things such as memory usage haven’t even been tackled.

While the console version isn’t available to anyone outside the development team yet, Project CARS’ PC version can be experienced by members on a regular basis. Membership starts at a one-time payment of 10€, for more info on membership pricing and benefits, please check out the WMD website.

Wait, so this is the first confirmation of the next gen consoles, and that devs already have dev kits for them?

    • zudthespud

I think other dev teams have talked about having dev kits, but this is the first screenshots I’ve seen. I just hope it’s not called the xbox 720.

      • Aaron Carlisle

I think you guys forgot what day it is. lol

      • StarFoXySxv550

        Yeah, I did. kiddy pranks

Yeah for sure they increased potential sales with this.   I wasn’t tempted with pCARS until now when this completely changed my mind. 😉

      • StarFoXySxv550

Because of this “Hoax” there is now a thread regarding pcars and WoMD on the forum I frequent, where there were previously none. Is that not publicity?

What have you got against marketing ?  Every product needs it in order to succeed.  Like it or not, its how the world rolls around.  I don’t see a need to micro-analyse everything as if there’s some hidden alterior motive or underhanded tactics.
Marketing only works depending on how taken in by it the audience is.
Clearly it doesn’t work on you because you’ve seen through it all.

      • StarFoXySxv550

I don’t have anything against marketing, I did find something wrong with your previous sarcastic response though, so I added my two cents and my whole opinion of the pCars marketing formula, and you add yet another sarcastic response. I would ask you if the reason you are so defensive is because you own shares in pcars… but I know you do lol

“Marketing only works depending on how taken in by it the audience is” I would say you wouldn’t make a good PR if that’s how you think it works. It’s not just a tool for tricking people into buying your product. lol

Xbox 720? They really are slightly mad.

    April Fools? 🙂

  • Danny Bouwes

Aah yes, the new X720. To be released on April 1st 2013

  • Anonymous

Lol I thought it’s real at first. But I realize noone has the devkit yet.  Nice April Fools SMS.

  • Lemming77

How brilliant would it be if Microsoft announced the Xbox 720 was due to replace the Xbox 360 in a few days, and SMS had no idea? 😛

  • Justin ForzaBarça Cruze

     Yeah you got me ><

  • Tiago Guerreiro

    1 Abril….. ????

  • J

haha good one. Almost forgot what day it was.

  • Dani .

    They own me.

The real joke is a ‘sim’ on a console..

    • StarFoXySxv550

Race Pro by SimBin says hello

    • Eric Zehnder

If you took rFactor 2 and ported it over to the mostly off-the-shelf PC parts mash-up that is the modern video game console would that make it arcade to you?

      Wheel + PC + Sim = Sim
Wheel + Video Game Console + Sim != Arcade

      • Louis Wedding

The problem is whenever a “sim” is on a console the makers of the game have to optimise the game so it’s easy to play with a controller, while on PC they don’t need to worry about such things.

      • Eric Zehnder

All they have to do is offer aids like traction control and best line. Now you have a sim *game* playable with a gamepad though not anywhere near as rewarding or engaging.

Just give gamepad/aids players their own leagues separate from the hardcore folk and you have an inclusive game!

why? If the system is capable, with proper wheel, why not?
not all console players are casuals.

      • Paul Mullins

Modern sims use the grunt of modern PC’s to run the physics engines, tire models etc..  The most modern console (the PS3) is 5 years old and runs computing power that is another 2 years older than that.

You can not tell me that bleeding edge games that are pushing PC power to its max can be the same on an old sim?

  • jswarthoff

meh xbox720 specs are already outdated.

    • 1337 1337

Specs can be misgiving… if a company can optimise a product for one type of hardware you got huge gains imho…. thats why (again imho) ports to PC/CONSOL are ussualy not so good

  • 1337 1337

What can i say… ive already got a XboX 720 game… and the fun part is i probably never gonna buy a consol…

  • sam.stratten

April fools 2009? The name “720” was thrown out mid-generation.

  • Shane Bundy

SMS caught me napping with that AF joke. -_-

They’re still great looking shots. :-3
