Project CARS – Patch 2.0 Details Revealed

Slightly Mad Studios have revealed details on the next major patch coming up for their Project CARS title.

Slightly Mad Studios have revealed details on the next major patch coming up for their Project CARS title.

As part of the studio’s post-release commitment to the WMD-powered title, the next patch will introduce plenty of fixes, including a major performance increase on Xbox One and much more, as listed below in the preliminary release notes.

The patch has yet to clear certification at Microsoft & Sony so the release is still a few weeks away.

Project CARS 2.0 Patch Changelog

Performance Improvements
* PC – up to 5% frame rate improvement when using Ultra settings
* XB1 – up to 17% frame rate improvement in extreme conditions

Online & Community Events
* Multiplayer search filter ‘Skill’ now finds games based upon certain lobby game configuration criteria. For example, “Pro” setting now searches for Full Damage, Auto-start Engine, Forced Cockpit, Mechanical Failure, and so forth.
* Community events page – when an event cannot be entered, it will now display the reason why: ‘Coming Soon’ along with a countdown, or ‘Expired’.
* Online – Ensure that vehicle light repairs are synchronized in MP races so that repaired headlights are visible by other racers.
* Xbox One – fix attempt for a hard-to-reproduce issue where the game would at times freeze or crash when 8 or more players joined a session all at once.
* Xbox One – fixed an issue that at times would prevent a player from establishing full connectivity when leaving a lobby and trying to reconnect to it.
* PS4 – fixed an issue where, after the PS4 resumes from Rest Mode, no network features can be used.

Controls – All platforms
* Adjustments made to the gears system, to prevent gears being skipped under certain conditions. This addresses an issue where gears would at times jump straight down to 1st, potentially causing engine blowouts.
* Steering wheels – reduced the centering rate of the steering spring. This improves the feel of steering wheels at very low speeds.
* Added support for the use of all active controllers for menu input. You can for example now use a steering wheel to race, and a gamepad to control the menus and photo mode.
* Gear shifters – when using an H-shifter on a car that has a sequential gearbox, the gearbox will now switch through the gears until the gear selected on the H-shifter is reached.
* Fixed an issue in Force Feedback calibration that would prevent a player from setting “Soft Clipping (Half Input)” back to 0 after modifying it from the original value.

Controls – PS4
* Thrustmaster T100 Force Feedback improvements.
* Fixed the Force Feedback dynamics for wheels with physical steering locks which were less than the steering lock of the vehicle in-game. This fixes the Force Feedback on the Thrustmaster T100 and similar wheels.
* Added a Motion Sensor controller profile.
* Fixed a crash issue when disconnecting and reconnecting Fanatec wheels.
* Enable support for USB keyboards to be used for in-game controls.

Controls – Xbox One
* Built in protection to prevent unsupported controller devices from crashing the game.
* Gear shifters – fixed an issue that prevented the selection of neutral when using an H-gate shifter add-on with a car that has an H-gate shifter in-game.
* Implemented accelerator vibration on the gamepad right trigger to indicate when and how much the tyres slip under acceleration.
* Madcatz wheel – fixed an issue where the switch on the wheel to change between 270 to 900 degree mode stopped functioning.

Physics & AI
* Slowed down the AI opponents in the rain when using racing tyres, to make racing against them better balanced.
* Adjusted the AI tyre wear rate to better match the player’s tyre wear rate.
* Adjusted wear of Slicks and Rain tires to more realistic levels where needed. Typically GT/LMP/Formula cars will get slightly more than a full fuel load on soft or default slicks (depending on fuel load amounts).
* Adjusted the heating of slicks and rain tyres to more realistic levels.
* Adjusted tyre temperature sensitivity on several cars.
* Adjusted rain tyres to generally be more sensitive to overheating, and less efficient in the dry.
* Improvements to AI navigation to lessen collisions during cramped race starts, improve detection of other cars during cornering, and improve clean overtaking
* Improved the AI pitting logic during practice and qualifying so that the AI cars run more realistic stints before pitting.
* Reworked the AI’s fuelling logic during qualifying sessions where no refuelling is allowed, so that they don’t always fill up the fuel tanks and negatively impact their qualifying ability. The AI will now deliver far more competitive lap times during qualifying.
* Fixed an issue where the AI would set impossible lap times during races with pit stops.
* The AI will now pit as soon as possible when low on fuel to prevent them running out of fuel and retiring from the race.
* Reduced the effect of damage to the car’s cooling system when suffering aero damage. This prevents engines from overheating and blowing at an unrealistic rate.
* Fixed an issue that prevented bump starts from working properly on some cars. An example case – with gears and clutch set to manual, take an Ariel Atom out on Brands Hatch. At the first right hander, stall the car, ignition on, 2nd gear, roll down the hill up to about 15kph and drop the clutch. The car will now bump start. Exact conditions for a successful bump start will vary slightly by car.
* Fixed an issue where at times some AI drivers in a race would use much higher skill levels than the rest of the field.
* Fixed an issue that prevented the AI from pitting within the final 3 laps of a race
* Further tweaked the AI ability in wet races to more closely match the player car’s ability in the wet
* Improved the AI’s efficiency in pit timing when needing to change tyres due to weather conditions.

Pitting, tuning, setups
* Fixed an issue where wet tyres were fitted too long before the rain starts, causing excessive overheating and wear on the tyres.
* Fixed an issue where, when running low on fuel, the Pit Board would appear to tell the player to do a scheduled pit stop when the player did not schedule a pit stop.
* Fixed an issue where flat tyres were fitted to the car during a pit stop, by ensuring that the tyres are correctly inflated.
* Fixed an issue where the car’s bump-stop value decreased after leaving a race session and joining it again.
* Reworked the brake bias display information so that changing the values is more intuitive.

Tracks
* Performance optimisation pass done on: Brands Hatch layouts, Cadwell layouts, Oulton Park layouts, Bathurst, Azure circuit, and Zolder. This helps improve the overall smoothness when racing on these tracks with large grids of cars.
* Track cutting tolerances reduced on all tracks where it was too forgiving.
* Fixed an issue where a pit crew character would at times appear floating above the race track on various tracks.
* Silverstone Stowe – fixed render issues on some tyre stacks, and addressed an issue with cars driving through certain objects.
* Road America – fixed an issue where a line of grass line appeared in the air near a concrete barrier.
* Spa Francorchamps – fixed an issue where cars under AI control would bump into the pit wall when exiting the pit lane. Fixed an issue where the AI were running too wide over the exit curb at the Bus Stop Chicane.
* Brno – fixed an issue where cars would at times start in the same grid positions, fixed garage six to prevent the AI from getting stuck on the right side wall when exiting the garage spot, fixed an issue when running more than 20 cars in a race would cause the car in 21st to slide into the pits.
* Le Mans – fixed an issue that would at times cause the car to crash while in the pit lane, leading to a disqualification. Improved the AI race line for better speed, and improved the AI behaviour on curbs.
* Laguna Seca – improved the AI performance as they were running too slow in some sections.
* Imola – Improved the pit lane AI navigation, and fixed an issue with a section of the fence at the pit entrance that appear to float.
* Bathurst – fixed a render issue with shimmering edges in parts of the track.

Career
* Added a new RUF RGT8 GT3 contract to ensure that the player can enter the RUF GT3 series on contract renewal and not just when starting a new career.
* Fixed the unlock details for the Supercar Ardennes Club Day Invitational.
* Fixed an issue where skipping the session during a race caused the player to move up in the session results.

Vehicles
* Group 5 cars – adjusted the gearshift timing tolerances to fix an issue with the gearing when pausing and restarting a session.
* Gumpert Apollo – fixed an issue with the livery sets that caused the livery selection to display wrong liveries.
* Aston Martin Vantage GT3 – tuned engine lifetime and brake cooling parameters for better accuracy.
* Lotus 98T – tweaked turbo to improve AI estimation of top speed.
* McLaren F1 GTR – modified the default setup and reduced front bump steer to improve straight line stability, fixed an issue to ensure that the car’s specific HUD motec display is used
* McLaren F1 – Fixed an issue that caused the car to use the wrong default tyre compound.
* Ford GT40 MK4 – Reworked in several areas to improve handling and match the real car closer – Bump stops settings exposed in setup with better tuned setup defaults, increased wrap around stiffness of the tire carcass, rebalanced base vs tear grip, rebalanced player vs AI rain performance against the AI.
* All Formula vehicles – Stop brake light reflections appearing on cars that don’t have brake lights.

General
* Fixed an issue where the player position would at times change to last when player crosses the starting line during rolling starts.
* Fixed an issue that could cause the game to crash when selecting the ‘Edit Tuning Setup’ option in the ‘PIT BOX’ screen.
* Fixed an issue that could cause the game to crash while watching a saved replay.
* Driver Network Profile – fixed an issue where entering Free Practice mode would count toward Races Entered.
* PS4 – fixed an issue that required the game to first restart after installing an in-game DLC before the DLC would be available for use.
* Audio – rebalanced the volume of skid sounds to make them a bit more audible.
* PC, Oculus Rift – added Oculus 0.6.0.0 SDK support, enabled positional tracking in non-helmet player camera views, implemented initial menus and HUD support, auto reset player view position at the start of a race, and disabled all non-VR-friendly scripted pre-race camera sequences.
* PC, D-BOX – fixed an issue that caused cars to lose power when playing with D-BOX connected.
* Updated the achievement “I am the 5%” to ensure that it can be achieved in non-Pro-modes as well.
* Fixed a game crash issue caused by an overflow of the email inbox when the player received above a certain amount of invitational emails.
* GUI – fixed an issue where the controls configuration arrows in Options would not respond correctly to mouse input when attempting fine adjustment.

Patch 2.0 will not the be end of post-release support for Project CARS as plenty of more updates, including fresh content are still to come!

Project CARS is now available on Steam, boxed copies for all platforms are available here.

  • Patrik Marek

but they were suppose to stop developing it and focus fully on pcars2, that’s what entire internet says ?

quite a list though, nice to see so many fixes. great job SMS

    • Alexandre Amirizian

Wait for a few comments like: Ah that’s pCARS 2.0 so I need to spend 50£ to get the patch???

      Just kidding

Yes I am quite happy to see SMS respond quickly.

      • Patrik Marek

I actually think it’s really “nice touch” to release pCARS 2.0 patch when pCARS2 funding was announced 🙂

    • http://www.facebook.com/driftozphotography Peter DriftOz Pintera

theres no where on the net which says they are fully supporting pcars 2 and dropping pcars

      • http://www.facebook.com/steve.shears.37 Steve Shears

Yeah no it does. Every other post in the other thread says or alludes to it. So it must be true.

  • Jetexocet

Ladies and Gentlemen, in the red corner we have Virtualr, and in the blue corner, Joe public……..Let’s Get Ready To Rumble. To be honest, that does look like a decent set of fixes.

  • JesseFahrenkrog

Anyone notice that this will be “Patch 2.0”? I know the whole world seems to think that the announcement of pCARS2 means the end of support for this title, but I don’t see the words “Final Patch” anywhere.

“Patch 2.0 will not the be end of post-release support for Project CARS as plenty of more updates, including fresh content are still to come!”

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/OldAgedGamer Steve Bird

I don’t think people think that a couple of months after release this titl;e is going to be abandoned, just well before it’s time has ran and it’s reached its true potential.

      • JesseFahrenkrog

I can understand what you’re saying. True potential might be a really difficult thing to achieve though. I’d say it took rFactor years to achieve it’s true potential, and only then through the modding community. The likes of VirtuaLM, CTDP, and Enduracers to name a few made the sim into what it became. Times are different though and DLC is a great alternative to an open platform IMO.

I think the potential lies in the developer and game engine themselves. Fortunately, SMS WMD concept gives the end consumer much more influence over the final product than at any other time I can recall sans mods. Besides, at what point does one decide that a game is finished? That seems pretty open ended to me.

  • ASUSNEX

When are they gona fix the replays? 2 minutes limits are a joke. Not enough outside camera angels either.

    • JesseFahrenkrog

Last I knew if you finished a race you could watch the replay entirely, though that doesn’t affect practice etc.. Find a related thread in the forum and reiterate the issue. If it’s a big enough deal to enough people, they’ll address it.

      • ASUSNEX

Dont seems like the timetrails are that popular.. But several has lifted the issue becouse its unlogical that you cant get a full replay off a longer track.

      • Captain Stabby

Get a tablet/phone and dashmeterpro ($5) or the like and you’ll have all the data you need. Handy thing DMP version for Pcars works with AC as well.

    • https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCH9mohZOUNvs8dn_hmGhylA Chillisteak

I’ve recorded 3 hour replays, so if you actually finish a race you’d see that they are longer than 2 minutes.

      • ASUSNEX

Timetrails and leaderboards hunting is limited To 2 minutes. If you set a WR and wants To see the whole lap you cant in the lingeri tracks like Nordschleife. Thats not accepteble.

      • Johnny Penso

They are only two minutes when you are hotlapping or running TT’s.

    • hoodge1

I’d like to see them do replays like Gran Turismo does. For every 3 laps there are different camera angles that make the presentation more exciting. I hate for each lap the camera’s are all the same. Raceroom Racing Experience from Sector 3 also do that. I can only dream.

  • JesseFahrenkrog

After reading through the list I notice a lot of updates that address issues that are known common issues such as the AI behavior/tire wear in the wet. It’s obvious to address these types of issues in a patch (when a dev is willing to even do so), but there’s so much more besides the obvious such as minor physics updates. With more patches to come, it seems to me that this sim will be highly polished before post release support is finished.

If you get involved with pCARS2 as a WMD team member you can help address these type of things before release as well as helping to shape the general direction of the game. Or just pay full price for the game, DLC’s, etc., then complain about it afterward. I’m joining again for sure.

    • https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCH9mohZOUNvs8dn_hmGhylA Chillisteak

Couldn’t agree more, they’ll have money soon as payday rolls around.

  • Richard Hessels

Still waiting on a patch that will enable to choose the cars you want to race.
Not just a class selection where you end up to get cars that don’t belong there.

    • https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCH9mohZOUNvs8dn_hmGhylA Chillisteak

Every race I’ve ever done, I’ve been in the car I was expecting to be in competing against cars from the same class.

What machine are you running it on?

      • Richard Hessels

If i want to simulate a endurance race with a full field of LMP’s and GT’s it’s not possible.

      • Patrik Marek

hopefully still coming, yes GT and LMps would be nice together

      • Alex Ball

Yep, annoying to run with crap caterham ‘prototypes’ too. All we need is a simple select list so we can pick the models to race against (and save the selection as a pre-set?)

      • todemanjack

Ian’s cut and paste response to your plea? The same plea that has been put on his forums for years. “We already have the most modifiable Quick Race, Single Player, of any Sim I know.” As recent as two weeks ago. He pasted this response to your question. So I wouldn’t hold my breath. That’s pCars2 possibility. but I wouldn’t even count on that.

      • Morgan

You can run this currently, but only at the LeMans 24hr career event.

Should be able to be added to Quick Race as the game already does it in Career.

    • toyvonen

I agree that together with some “missing feeling FFB” (let’s see ho’s that addressed in this patch), it’s one of the major drawbacks…have to admit that i’m beginning to fall for this game though…and this patch is really good news…and the promises of the makers in future commitment to…THANKS

    • Rlee

This was discussed in the last couple days and Ian told them to put it on the list. We were all talking about custom championships.

      • Hoi Hman

Yes. Where are the promised custom championships for singleplayer.

  • Bakkster

    Full Oculus Rift support!

Might have to buy this after all…

  • Dentykaffalatta

Very good. Thank you Pcars guys. Cheers!

  • https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCH9mohZOUNvs8dn_hmGhylA Chillisteak

Oh no this is going to upset all the haters, because SMS have just gone and proved they are continuing to work on the first one despite starting the 2nd.

It truly is amazing how hundreds of people can work on 2 different things at once.

    • QUF

Is not going to upset anyone. Because everyone knew there were still going to be patches and other game updates. No one who ever complained about pcars2 said there won’t be game updates from then on.

      • RapidRefund

And content continued to be added all during the development possibly of the sequel title. It’s licensed and funded just needs to be completed and released as official pCARS 1 content

      • ModernTimes2

Yes, a whole lot of people did (and still do) just that. It’s one of the main lines of “argumentation” against pCARS 2.

      • RapidRefund

I think you try to be sensible with your critique however still want to run with the pack with words like anyone and everyone so maybe there is a bit of dilution going on there as well as far as the facts go.

      • http://www.facebook.com/driftozphotography Peter DriftOz Pintera

lol look on the pcars fb page almost EVERYONE were complaining saying to fix pcars first before starting pcars 2

      • QUF

Don’t bring the fb crowd into discussion… I guess those guys obey a universal law of never knowing and analyzing anything. It happens in all games with a ffb page, some worse/better than others. AC can be similar on the facebook posters, I guess they don’t visit AC forums, or the usual sim racing news websites, even steam discussions are a better place than some comments on facebook for games pages.

  • http://www.facebook.com/steve.shears.37 Steve Shears

No chance of electrocution in here Patrik. lol. And Ian has even answered his critics – within hours of the initial posting and subsequent MASSIVE troll backlash.

  • RapidRefund

Woop look Steering spring issue addressed. Just like that Great Job SMS as for being on the ball with this stuff and knocking out fixes at a good clip.

  • Silvio

As an ancient simracer (not a good one, but a critical one) used to play LFS, NKP, AC,iR, rF, and as a WMD member following all that “arcade” pressure on the forum, I can’t still believe how much I like this game and got addicted to it since its release… Simply the best at this moment.

    • JesseFahrenkrog

I agree and I’ve said it before myself. The racing is fantastic! (and really that’s what it’s all about right? RACING!!)

  • Ross Siggers

The bump starting addition is a neat touch!

    • LogiForce

It was already in but a few cars were missed it seems.
I know it was in goes I instigated its addition since I felt a lack of manual gearbox quirks were missing in the past (pre-release).

    • Johnny Penso

I bump started an Ariel Atom on California highway the day after it was released. I had forgotten that I had read it was a feature until I spun and was perched at the top of a rise and then it came back to me. Was a nice little touch.

  • HardRock

How dare they abandon the 1.x line of patches this soon and start working on 2.x?! This is a disgrace.

    • LogiForce

Yes, how dare they do that on purpose to make you all think you have to crowdfund a patch as well. :p

      • Paul Maguire

        lol a crowdfunded patch =)

      • http://www.simracingbase.de LTC Mike

it’s crowdfunded: >1 million copies sold together with the WMD backing before payed the development of this patch, too 😀

    • BackMarker

      haha! good one!
      : )

  • The Turtle

Pcars is a fun little game for when I am not sim racing. Thanks SMS for the continued support.

    • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

If you’re playing pCARS, then you are sim-racing.

      • Patrik Marek

        well he might be sim-time-trailing

      • hoodge1

        Sure about that?

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

No I don’t work for them. What you think it ‘seems’ is not what it actually is, just what you want to assume. FYI pCARS is not my favourite sim and nor have I played it that often.

You are seeing this in a completely distorted way. This has got nothing whatsoever to do with SMS doing anything wrong or not. I would have replied the same if he had said it on the Seb Loeb Rally article.

It is about defining what a simulation is and it’s correct use of the word which a lot of people who claim to be sim-racers fail to understand.

“the physics are not really on the sim side” makes little sense. Again, it’s that mentality that what you perceive as bad or poor physics/ffb = arcade. It’s a total nonsense.
If you can honestly tell me that Project CARS does not simulate motor racing then it shows you also lack that understanding.
It’s not about SMS, your FFB or your wheel.

      • The Turtle

I would have thought that most sim racers by now would know when someone refers to a sim as something other than sim like simcade or arcade, what they are really saying is it’s a bad sim or one with unrealistic physics.

Of course all racing games with cars simulates a vehicle with 4 wheels(more or less) and simulates that vehicle racing others on a track.

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

I am well aware how it is referred to. My point is it’s not correct terminology and ‘simcade’ is just a made up meaningless word.
It can’t be an arcade and a bad sim at the time. Either classify it as one or the other or use the correct terminology.

Just look at your phrase “if a simracer knocks a sim by calling it not a sim….”
the only correct ending to that sentence is “he is wrong.” If it’s a sim, then it’s a sim. Calling it ‘not a sim’ or labelling it with some other term does not stop it from being a sim. THAT is what needs to be realised.

Even ‘realism’ is subjective. You’re still in a room in front of a monitor.

      • The Turtle

Wow! Let’s try this one more time. I am not trying to be correct or literal with the terminology. Holy moly on a biscuit!!

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

“I am not trying to be correct”. Well I suppose that says it all really and therin lies the problem. At least you’re honest about it.
I was just trying to help you be more ‘correct’. Obviously that doesn’t seem to interest you.
As for the biscuit, I’ve not tried that. Sounds like something the pope has for breakfast. 🙂

      • The Turtle

Sentiment is correct just not the terminology. No help needed.

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

hehe. ok, I`ll settle for that 🙂

      • Johnny Penso

FFB is not physics. And it’s far from the worst FFB ever, but difficult to really dial in.

      • Slim_Boy_Fat

I feel ffb on the bumps on the straights. You obviously haven’t set up the ffb correctly.

      • GamingCanuck

I always laugh when armchair racers state an opinion as fact when they make statements about physics, as if they’ve raced a real GT3 car with slicks before.

      • Al_D

If that’s the case, Gran Turismo 4,5, and 6 is a real simulator? Since it’s been used by Loeb and Vettel for practice and got their input in it, And those guys are head and shoulder above a typical GT3 drivers..must be legit.

      • The Turtle

        lol…..yeah….ok

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Ignorance is bliss, so they say.

      • Gui Cramer

A car with some internal driving assistance can still be a sim. There are a bunch of calculations and outputs grounded on them, just because it isn’t at the same standard of two or three other games doesn’t mean it’s not a sim. But good luck getting that across to stubborn people ;).

      • doofis

Mario Kart is technically a “simulation” of racing. I mean, we get that you’re smart, but you don’t have to rub it in. He’s obviously making an ironic statement.

      • RapidRefund

        You mean stirring the pot?

      • todemanjack

Has anyone in the community ever made a list of what makes a Racing Sim? I think your sight should have a list attached to the Headline of your Home Screen. And sense physics are highly subjective. Perfect physics wouldn’t be on that list. Just physics that convince, or immerse you into believing you’re driving a car. Which of course means many arcade games would meet that criteria. There probably is at least 20 things that a Sim needs to have to be a full 100% Racing Simulator. Maybe the coverage here should be set lower than 100%. So some almost Sims could still be reported?

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

My site (not sight) ? You mean RacingRenders.com ? Why would I want to put such as list there ?

I think such a list would be very subjective and other people would have different opinions on it.
When would you know that you have a 100% racing simulator ? I don’t understand how that would work.
Maybe the site admin doesn’t want to report on ‘almost sim’s’. What would that be ? GTA V ? 🙂

      • todemanjack

Come on F1Racer. Seriously you don’t know I’m speaking of this ‘site’. And correcting grammar? So you really don’t think a Sim can be defined or qualified? And if they are not defined, how do you know if they’re an “almost sim” or not? To me a 100% Sim that replicates a racing series that drives at night or in the rain. Would need those features to be 100% Sim. Leaving out every Sim accept rFactor2. pCars for lack of other Sim features. Or maybe you just want to leave it up to the subjective judgement of the owners of this site to make that decision?

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

I know you were referring to this site. But it is not ‘my’ site. It is Montoya’s. As well as being a member like yourself, I only moderate here.
If I don’t correct you, others my assume otherwise and I don’t want that.
I was correcting your spelling, not your grammar. Take it as education not a criticism.

I’m not the one saying things like ‘almost a sim’. Nor do I classify a sim as arcade or simcade if I personally don’t like the physics.

How you define a 100% sim is certainly not one that I would agree with.
I can drive at night and in the rain in GTA V. What if Forza or GT allowed that ? Would that make them ‘100% sim’ ?
I think the term ‘100% sim’ is a misconception and not something that can ever be achieved.
rFactor 2, which arguably has the best physics and ffb of all the sims, is not 100% sim. Simply because how you even define that in real terms ?
You have only defined it based on your own personal opinon.

Of course it’s not up to the owner of the site. People will make up their own minds whether its based on facts, assumptions or just emotion.
What gets posted on VirtualR will always be up to Montoya. He selects what gets posted and we just have to accept that.
I would run my site the same way. I can’t speak for Montoya but on my site I have what I want and if others like the content then that’s a bonus. If not, doesn’t bother me.

      • RapidRefund

I can see you used that to give your business a plug!

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

No I used it to point out that VR is not ‘my’ site but RR is. I haven’t put up any new stuff for months so nothing to plug 🙂 But all the stuff there is free so hardly a business 🙂

    • Johnny Penso

Well done on the passive agressive false praise. Fooled everyone..oh wait…lol.

      • The Turtle

I am praising it for what it is. Not my fault if some want to think their Volkswagen is a Porsche.

      • RapidRefund

Your comment was a backhanded compliment and you know it don’t try to play it off. Weather you believe it or not the quote when I am not sim racing is passive trolling.

      • The Turtle

Backhanded or not, it’s the only way I will compliment it. Try some thicker skin maybe?

      • punkfest2000

Good point. Thicker skin is going to be needed, particularly in the GSC forum.

      • RapidRefund

        Try some other thread maybe!

      • The Turtle

You’re probably right. I have just recently uninstalled this waste of hard drive space. Have fun with the game.

      • RapidRefund

Maybe we can uninstall your waste of forum space here as well? Have fun on the Dark Side of the Moon!

    • Leper Messiah

There’s this thing called a dictionary, really good book, try reading it…really educational. I HIGHLY recommend you look up “simulation” first.

  • http://www.simrace.pl/ rauf00

Personally i don’t like word “hater”, it’s abused novadays. You can’t even think different.
But this time all that discrediting, moaning and spamming ab pCARS is pure, nonsense hate. Thats it.

And most funny thing – everyday im playing it and like it more and more, even knowing that this and that need polishing 😉

    • QUF

“But this time all that discrediting, moaning and spamming ab pCARS is pure, nonsense hate. Thats it.” No is not.

Certain responses can be seen as that, but don’t put everything in the same bag. A lot of that everything is outside of the spectrum you described.

      • Leper Messiah

Also a lot of responses to criticism are well thought out but often dismissed as “investor excuses”.

    • todemanjack

I hate the fact that it’s now politically incorrect to hate anything. What a moronic dream world, to think their is nothing in it worth hating.

      • Bakkster

Not politically incorrect to dislike things, just a bit silly to go around telling everybody about the things you don’t like instead of ignoring them.

Especially when it’s something as unimportant as ‘I don’t like this video game’.

      • todemanjack

But people are hating others because they hate certain things about a video game. Is it OK to hate that fact they left something out, or even a gaming company’s philosophy. Like ensuring “planned obsolescence” is built in. So game 2 has to be bought for further play?

      • Captain Stabby

See heres the thing If I dislike something I just walk away from it. However in this age with the troll culture now you need to run around on sites and forums telling the entire world why I hate this thing. FFS people it’s a game.

  • todemanjack

I guess PCers will have to wait for this minor fix patch to pass the console’s testing? You’d think all the extra delays for polishing and fixing bugs would have netted a much more finished game? This would have been a one week build back in the day.

    • hoodge1

Yes this fix should of been ironed out before launch. So tired of companies releasing broken games and then patching the hell out of them. But if this patch does what they are saying it will, it will not be the end for more polishing. Glad to hear that they listened.

      • Leper Messiah

You’d hate Elite: Dangerous then, literally every update breaks something else that was working fine.

    • JesseFahrenkrog

“The patch has yet to clear certification at Microsoft & Sony so the release is still a few weeks away.”

They didn’t have to clear any bureaucratic hurdles to release anything before the game went live.

  • http://batman-news.com Leeman

Very encouraging. I’ve been thinking of getting the XB1 version to race with some console friends but I’ve been holding off. This news (along with some Best Buy gift certificates for Father’s Day) makes it a no-brainer.

  • RapidRefund

Also real close to 200,000 copies sold on Steam

    • Patrik Marek

can’t wait for them to go over 250,000 for no obvious reasons 🙂

      • RapidRefund

Well an early goal was 250,000 copies as a minimum figure on all platforms early on would be nice to see it being broken on just PC alone

      • Patrik Marek

which I can easily see done, especially once major update gets released together with the major DLC packs

  • HammerX

It would have been nice to give players control in the pits like racing sims used to do. 🙁
Thumbs up if you agree. Maybe they will listen and include it in the next patch???

    • todemanjack

Discussed in the official forums to no end.

      • kauff

        What is the reasoning?

      • todemanjack

What is the reason for driving your own car into the pit box? If that’s your question. Just more of a sense of immersion. And you do have to control your speed or get penalized. It’s also another point of dividing between arcade and simulation.

      • kauff

I think I wasn’t very clear. I just wanted to understand why they wouldn’t allow control in the pit lane. I was really surprised that is really a contention point when control is allowed in so many other games. I would like to be able to control my car because it just seems so odd on autopilot.

      • todemanjack

Because SMS remains very coy about their develop process. Despite the whole “pay to help develop the game con.” We are left to speculate exactly why the do or don’t do what they do. Ian recently boasted on this forum. “Every thing we ever hinted at will be in the game.” What an ambiguous statement. People investing in game 2, better copy the list of features SMS suggest will be in game 2. And there is no good reason for many of the missing features. Like the more complex filters for adding AI cars in Quick Race. It still has the three dumb filters that Shift 2 had. The exact same simple code? Why?

      • David Wright

If you can drive over the pitcrew it affects the game’s PEGI rating.

      • Easy DaRon

Nonsense-excuse. It has no effect on the PEGI if nothing happens with the crew or they don´t even move by animation. Lots of games treat characters like ghosts when cars drive into them.

  • Palim

I am not happy how they treat some people in the official forum and with the news of pcars 2 but this update sounds very good to me and will improve pcars 1 a lot. That is something good 🙂 Good work.

    • Rlee

Why because they don’t let people go into the forums and cry like little sucky babies and cause a ruckus or open 10 threads bitching about the same feature that they DEMAND to have?

      • Palim

If i would make jokes about the customers or would bann everyone who said something i can’t handle with my boss would have dismissed me. But i am not allowed to say this there because….then bann. It isn’t worth to discuss about that and that has nothing to do with the game and with update 2.0 (topic). The game is pretty good and i avoid the official forum so no problems. Update 2.0 will make me play again pcars 1.

  • http://www.aus-simracers.com/ George ASR

So when is this patch being released on PC?

    • todemanjack

We can’t have PC being seen as having preference over consoles. So PC will have to wait.

      • David Wright

SMS have stated the PC patch will be released before the console patch.

      • todemanjack

Well that’s good news. I was afraid they were bound by some agreement with the consoles. Wonder what happened to this months free car? I know still a week left. Probably on the last day of the month at 11:59 MP. I’m getting back into AC anyway. This whole debacle can only be good for the real Sims.

      • MH

Wow calm down dude. Maybe stay out of the discussions for a while and cool off. Your constant rambling and negativity is everywhere the last few days…

      • todemanjack

        ??

      • Rlee

Yeah, the still strong sales numbers prove that…pffft

People love it, get over it.

      • Hash

Cool, take it you love a bit of katy perry and justin beiber?, I mean honestly you do Pcars no favours by shouting sales figures anytime ppl critic Pcars, the reason the games industry in the state it is is because of attitudes like yours, you prove to devs that flashy lights, marketing marketing, marketing, and a bit o smoke and mirrors will win over genuine good code and practices.

      • Rlee

PC has gotten all the patches first. Keep trolling tode.

  • Marco Hooghuis

People, it’s one thing to be a ‘hater’, but it’s another to be bashing haters before they get in. First of all you’re building them a stage with spotlights, microphones, the lot. Second of all, two wrongs don’t make a right.
About the whole thing if pcars’ physics are real or not, I don’t think anybody here is qualified to answer that question.

    • todemanjack

Would you people please give it up, on using the hate card! I hate it in American politics when you don’t agree with certain policies and they accuse you of being a hater. I hate the rebel flag. I hate it when insects suck my blood, and vipers poison my flesh. Get over it. We are ALL capable of generating hate. Stop taking Sim Racing so seriously you have to play the “hate card”!

    • Michael Hornbuckle

So you don’t think anybody here has ever driven a BMW 1M or something similar? Nobody here has driven anything remotely similar to a Ford Focus?

      • Marco Hooghuis

Sure they might have driven a 1M on the street, but I doubt on a track in anger. And I think you’re well aware of the discussions that took place after the videos Rene Rast posted. Those cars are certainly NOT driven by people that post here.

      • Michael Hornbuckle

So I guess nobody can judge if Forza’s physics are realistic or not either, huh? I guess the only game that has physics we can debate the realism of is NFS since it mostly takes place on virtual roads instead of virtual tracks.

      • Marco Hooghuis

“So I guess nobody can judge if Forza’s physics are realistic or not either, huh?”
You are correct 🙂 You cannot judge anything unless you know what you’re talking about.

      • Michael Hornbuckle

So if you hoon a car in an empty parking lot you learn nothing; but if you hoon a car in a parking lot with cones set up and call it an autocross then you learn everything.

      • Marco Hooghuis

No, that’s not remotely what I said.

      • The Dark

he likes to twist your meaning. i will bet his next reply starts with ‘”So” 🙂

      • Hash

Its only when Pcars is ivolved ppl pull this fallacy outta there a*se, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to understand racecar physics, you can learn a lot just hooning about in a car, some pcar fans upset that ppl dont find it as realistic as other sims try to make out we are all 14 and wouldnt have a clue on driving.

Im always suspicious of ppl’s “experience” when they try to be dismissive of others, one min its easy to drive a race car(when concerning ppl saying to easy to drive PC), the next minute when ppl say its not that realistic at all we are all suddenly idiots and would crash a real car race or not on first corner wish they make there mind up.

The worst bit is if Pcars had universal acclaim for its realism(like some other titles) you woudlnt hear these PC dweebs jump up and down because your not one of the handful of ppl in the world to of driven a F1 car.

Do you think the physicists that right the pyhsics codes are race drivers? Im fairly certain the law of physics dont change because a new over hyped game came out lol.

      • Marco Hooghuis

The problem is that most sim cars are not based on real data anyway (check the latest Q&A with Niels Heusinkveld or ask Todd Wasson), so who knows which one is most realistic? If they were based on real data it would probably be possible to get very close indeed.

      • Hash

Its irrelevant how the simulation works or the numbers crunched, small nuisances in cars might be hard to feel out, especially the higher tech you go, but ya average petrol head with at least a little experience with a bit of gaming to help with perception changes inherent when trying to do something you know IRL to the screen, should be able to gauge some general physics realism concerning motor vehicles in a sim or any game for that matter.

otherwise why would ya average player bother with pcars if can have GT or the crew with more cars? is it maybe you think Pcars physics is its strength, therefore lacking cars but worth more as a game?or just teh pretty rain effects? have you driven a GT3 irl on the edge?

      • Marco Hooghuis

No, I’ve never driven a GT3 car and never claimed to. The only thing you as a customer can choose between is how they feel, which is to some extent an opinion. You are in no way able to conclusively say which is more realistic, which was my main point. You can only guess based on what you heard from other people.
The way I choose is a combination of how connected I feel to the car (ie, not floaty), the content, the features and the price. I am not in the business of saying sim X is more realistic than sim Y. I can only tell you which ones I like and why.

      • Hash

Agreed yep there is no why to really factually prove which is best or better than, well apart from missing essential sim features like measuring temps across tyres and pulling insane G’s on corners etc however, you cant just keep pulling the “oh your opinions irrelevant, your not a race driver” because you dont like what they say, like said before, if he had said Pcars was perfect, best physics etc, i guarantee you wouldnt of responded with that line.

      • Marco Hooghuis

Please read the whole thing, this was a post in general that became a discussion. If somebody had replied that pcars is perfect or had best physics or something, I would’ve asked them how they knew. I like pcars, but I like other sims as well. In certain aspects I like others better.

      • RapidRefund

I just can’t believe the mindset that goes on that you have no performance driving skill if you have never driven on a track in an official capacity? Where do people come up with this stuff? I have broken too many bones from unsanctioned racing to write it off as nothing

      • RapidRefund

        Which you clearly do not.

      • Marco Hooghuis

You’re right, so I’m not stating which is more realistic. I’m questioning other people that do make that statement without knowing what they’re talking about. Is this really that difficult to figure out?

      • RapidRefund

What’s the difference between driving on the street or on a track? Not the Surfaces only the Rules which are not always followed. IDK maybe people in Europe get shot for speeding? However in the US we tear up backroads as hard as people on the track and have buried enough friends to prove it.

      • Marco Hooghuis

On the street you don’t consistently look for the limits every time you get in the car, do you? And if you do I sincerely hope you’d change your mind and get to a racetrack, because racing on the street is really dangerous. Your point about friends being buried says enough. But even if you in particular are, I’d say most of us (luckily) don’t race on the streets.

      • RapidRefund

Well that’s fine but don’t say that if your not a pro driver racing in a sanctioned body your feedback on physics is irrelevant. I am not gonna argue that a driver that races professionally may be more experienced and may be able to go into detail at further lengths. However to discredit those not racing professionally is wrong unless it is on specifics of the feedback they give

      • Marco Hooghuis

It’s not that you need to be pro, you need to seek out the limits consistently. This way you know how the car behaves at or over the limit (over may be even more important when it comes to the way tires let go when pushing too far). Nobody does that on the road and if they did, they’d be locked away.

      • RapidRefund

Maybe not from where your from and not so much in this day and time with so much aerial patrolling that is done nowadays but that does not mean we didn’t use to and got away with it quite easily. It’s a different world today than it was even 20 years ago

      • RapidRefund

Anyway your argument is counter productive for the WMD concept. It’s like saying sure you can give us 10,000 pounds for a good meal but as far as feedback on physics we will only listen to Ben, Nic, Rene, and Ollie since they are pro drivers.

      • Marco Hooghuis

What on earth are you talking about?
Let me quote myself: “It’s not that you need to be pro, you need to seek out the limits consistently.”

So no, I don’t say that, don’t put words in my mouth.

      • RapidRefund
      • Marco Hooghuis

Saying I don’t believe you would be an understatement…

      • RapidRefund

Believe what you want but do not call me a liar as that is when any kind of civil conversation will end.

      • Marco Hooghuis

Pulling things out of your hat is where a civil conversation ends. But anyway, you were showing off so I’ll happily end the conversation there.

      • RapidRefund

Pulling things out of my hat? Whatever. Everything I said is the truth and if your disrespecting the friends I have lost your a pretty pathetic individual and that’s a cause for me to start problems with you long term GET USE TO IT YOU JUST MADE THE LIST!!!!

      • Marco Hooghuis

        I never disrespected your friends…
If this is how you want to have conversations I’d gladly make the list.
        Have a good day.

  • https://soundcloud.com/glen-orpheus Glen Orpheus

nice to see they have finally listened to the community and done a fix for proper triple screen support, way to go SMS

    • Herr Igor

      hahaha nice one.

  • Hoi Hman

I love Pcars, but a 2.0 Patch should AT LEAST include single player championships and proper triple screen support.

    • https://soundcloud.com/glen-orpheus Glen Orpheus

what you mean to say they havant addressed the triple screen support… (“,)

  • Herr Igor

Still no proper triple screen support…….. I guess it’s been saved for Project CARS 2. Unbelievable.

    • QUF

What does it mean “proper” triple screen support? I have single monitor so don’t know that much about triple screens and what people using them need.

      • Herr Igor

Proper. Adequate. Any game can be run on triple screens. But unless it offer PROPER support to it, the rendered image is going to be “stretched” to the sides and will not account for monitor angles and FOV distortions… exactly like what we have in PCars right now.

Which is baffling if we think that Kunos implemented one of the best triple screens support over the course of a weekend… and with a crew of mere 10 people. SMS couldn’t do it over years and years of development and seem unwilling and/or incapable of doing it still.

      • QUF

        ty for the reply.

      • The Turtle

A few very good coders are better than 140 sub par coders

      • https://soundcloud.com/glen-orpheus Glen Orpheus

another way to look at it is,
proper triple screen support is like having 3 separate cameras positioned at your drivers head, and each screen has a dedicated camera to feed each display separately, a little like this / —

if only one camera is used it stretches the image on the outside screens so bad that every wheel looks like a massively stretched egg, and it also gives the impression that things are bigger and nearer. to the point were the game is unplayable for me.

its really annoying to think that the dev are reading all these comments on triples but don’t appear to be responding to any of them 🙁

      • Alan Dallas

That first bit was informative, however that last bit is just hyperbole. They don’t need to respond to the comments on multiple screen support. They already know about it. It’s been banged on about since pCARS started development over 3 years ago on the WMD forums.
It’s one of those items that’s far down the priority list.

      • https://soundcloud.com/glen-orpheus Glen Orpheus

Alan look 3 messages above yours……Ian Bell very kindly replied (“,)

    • https://soundcloud.com/glen-orpheus Glen Orpheus

if i become a diamond investor and spend 10k i still can’t insist on triple screen support….so i wonder what it will take 🙁

      • Ian Bell

I’ll let you insist. We can discuss it over dinner.

      • https://soundcloud.com/glen-orpheus Glen Orpheus

oh Ian it’s very tempting you know (“,)
but now we have your attention, are you able to divulge if we will get proper triple screen support for Pcars ?

      • Ian Bell

We’ll add it regardless, I promise.

      • EDJ Gamer

a promise is one thing, delivering is another…

      • RapidRefund

You owe me a new monitor for that one!

    • Roy Rki

When Pcars 2 releases, triple screens will be extinct. VR will take over next year and it will improve each year.

  • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

On the subject of triple screens, how do people have it set up ?
Obviously it triples your horizontal screen resolution for that game right ?
So is this processing of 3 screens workable with a single gfx card (an NVidia 970GTX for example) ? Do you find you have to turn down gfx settings on games to maintain framerates ?
I’ve always used a single screen but am considering a triple screen setup.
What do I need to know ?

    • todemanjack

I’m not an expert. I use three screens. But they won’t work with official Nvidia triple screen support. I use PLP, Portrait and Landscape. But I can answer one question. The higher the resolution you use. The less AA you need. Which somewhat offsets the extra horsepower needed to run triple screens. I get at least 60 fps in most games with a GTX970. But not pCars. Still haven’t settled on the proper GFX in game settings. As some still don’t work.

      • Mike Gribble

The higher resolution/less AA only applies if using a single monitor. Each screen is still only getting 1920×1080 (if that’s your monitor’s resolution). You will notice less aliasing on higher resolution because typically your pixel density is greater. I am no expert though so someone can correct me if I’m wrong.

The thing you will notice in games that do not properly support triple screen is the outsides of the extra monitors will look stretched out (somewhat like looking though a fish-eye lens). Games like iRacing and AC render each monitor separately so that this is not an issue. You can also give the software your screen dimensions, viewing distance, monitor angle, and bezel size and it will set the FOV and render the outside monitors to look correct and have everything lined up properly.

      • todemanjack

The reason I run PLP is because the outside screens don’t looked stretched, and the proportions of the overall monitor area is more to my liking. Not just a narrow slit on the world. My games run at 3200 x 1060. Spread over three screens in Window mode. So you’re misinformed about the AA only applying on a single monitor. My three monitors are treated like a single monitor, when running in Window Mode.

      • Mike Gribble

It may see it as a single monitor, but the resolution is now spread out over a larger area. Your pixel density stays the same, so the amount of aliasing you get will stay the same, no?

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Great. Thanks for the info. Good to know. By PLP do you mean your screens are arranged Portrait-Landscape-Portrait ? As opposed to all landscape ?
In what ports on your gfx card do you have your screens connected to and does it matter which one the main middle screen goes into or can you arrange them with software ?

    • https://soundcloud.com/glen-orpheus Glen Orpheus

I’m running 2 x GTX Titans on triples and can’t have Pcars or AC, dirt rally on max settings, i use 3 x screens each with a 1920×1080 resolution at 60hz although i would like faster now i have them.

so yes you will be able to have a triple screen setup with your card, but be prepared to drop many graphics settings back to achieve that all important minimum of 60fps for sim racing. also i would point out you need more Vram for triple screens, in all fairness to get best results i would look at a card with 4gb or more

I’m selling my 2 titans on eBay as i type, as I’m going for the new gtx980ti as i really want to run my games at max if i can.

      • punkfest2000

Nice rig man. Do the neighbours complain when you power up that their lights flicker off?

      • https://soundcloud.com/glen-orpheus Glen Orpheus

haha my friends all make a joke and say i have to let the national power grid know when I’m switching on 🙂

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Wow. So that’s something to consider then.
Maybe I should be content with swapping from a 24″ monitor to a 27″ curved screen with 180′ viewing angle and just be happy with that 🙂

I do have 4Gb on my gfx card though so I guess that’s something.

So can the 980ti outperform your two current Titans ?

      • https://soundcloud.com/glen-orpheus Glen Orpheus

well I’ve been following the card quite closely, and the benchmarks show that one 980 ti gets me around the same fps as 2 titans, thats at stock though, overclocking the card can see a 15 to 20% increase too, so i’ll have to let you know. i still have one more day on eBay before i can hit the order button, but trying to find one at the moment is hard, as soon as stocks are received their gone within hours (“,)
also the 980 ti beats the current Titan X when its overclocked too 🙂

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Sounds good. Will be interesting to see what the real world differences are when you get that monster installed.

I think the optimal setup people are looking for is the ability to render each monitor separately, because your outer screens should be angled in to maximize their viewing area. That gives you the widest FOV with the least distortion.

There are a few cards that I’ve heard can handle triples on their own. It’s just as dependent on having enough Display Port outputs as horsepower to render enough pixels.

But, I’d tell you to get a VR headset instead. Especially for Elite. Maybe not until early next year when the support is fully there, but being able to naturally look into an apex is amazing. The reason to get triples is because you want the graphics of super high resolution more than being able to see clearly in the car (like around the A-pillar of a car, which is a cool effect on its own).

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

VR headset is intriguing but not something I would consider despite it’s capabilities. It’s a personal thing really.
You mention display port outputs but my gfx card has 2 x DVI and 2 x HMDI and 2 x Display Port. (I think).
But I can plug the 3 screens into either right ? Say 1 in the DVI and the other two in display port or HMDI for example ?
My reason for wanting triple screens is so that when sim-racing you can see the sides of the car, as you said. And hoping for something similar in Elite.
        Thanks for the info btw.

You will find recommended settings here
        http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/surround/system-requirements

No problem with connecting, with single 970 it could be any port. With SLI (which i would honestly recommend) it could be 2xDVI + HDMI/DP.

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

That’s a handy link. Another considering is maybe G-Sync capable monitors maybe.

      • http://www.simrace.pl/ rauf00

G-sync is a new milestone, decided to wait until some 32″ IPS panels show up, but move already to 3xROG Swift 27″. Absolutely love it. Sharp, fluid, without any artifacts or tearing. I can almost do burnout and count leafs on trees 😉

      • Bakkster

Yeah, some of the greatest features (immersed in the world) are sometimes drawbacks (isolated from stuff around you). That said, being able to look to the side, lean to see around the A-pillar (and even use parallax to see around them already), and over your shoulder in Elite are fantastic overall. Definitely the only way I play anymore (and cheaper than triples, which I was considering previously).

I was under the impression that two of your monitors needed to be connected via DP, but that might be specific to Eyefinity. Not sure, never set one up.

      • Rob Gray

I have eyefinity (and crossfire) and have all going out by essentially DVI. Two actual DVI outs and one DP to HMDI. That’s more to do with only having DVI inputs on my monitors AND windows does some funky and annoying things when you have a DP monitor in the mix with DVI.

    • Francesco Kasta

Just get three screens a Track IR and you will never go back. Trust me on this. You’ll feel completely immersed in whatever sim (or game for that matter) you are playing and you won’t get any motion sickness like a VR set (plus you’ll be able to see your keyboard / button boxes).

The lateral monitors are only there to give you peripheral vision, you’ll only occasionally look at them directly therefore the distortion experienced at the edges of the screens in a few games is not that big of a deal.

A GTX970 is gonna give you plenty of power to handle a triple screen setup properly but yes, in a few very demanding titles you are gonna have to compromise a bit. Especially Project CARS.

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Well I still have my old TrackIR 4 so that’s one thing less to buy.
        Thanks.

      • Rob Gray

IMO TrackIR gets little use with triples ( I have both ). I run my TrackIR turned right down, so that when my head moves through about the middle 4000pixels nothing changes. Then I get a bit o movement at the very edges. Makes sense because you already have the periphal stuff. I also turn Y down a lot. Great value with Euro Trucks IMO but not so much with competitive sim racing where you want to make sure you hit the apex every single time. YMMV of course.

      • Francesco Kasta

Yes, the Track IR in Sim Racing is not quite indispensable but I still find the “6 axis of freedom” very handy in certain situations tho. It also makes everything more believable.

On the other hand, in truck, flight and space sims it really is a MUST HAVE.

    • Silvio

      My set is 2GTX580SLI, 3×22″ (5760 x 1080) and a Matrox 3H2Go.
I can run pCars ate Medium/High settings.
If you go for 3sceen for a game like pcars it is not the best solution because it is just a streched single screen using your 3 screens. But for AC it deserves the investment. In the present days I would suggest to wait for Oculus Rift

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Thanks Silvio. Oculus Rift is a non-starter for me. Not my thing.

      • Gumshoe

But you just posted below you have TrackIR. OR seems the next logical step in immersion there? Or is it the prospect of nausea etc that makes it unfortunately not viable?

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Track IR is quite different from the Rift. 🙂 I dunno if nausea is an issue as I’ve not tried it yet. My friend has one which I am yet to try. Maybe I should pop over. No it’s another issue which I’d rather not get into.
Maybe I`ll be wrong and when I try it, it’s all good. Will have to see.

My settings for Project Cars : Resolution 5902×1080, Texture Resolution High, Texture Filtering 16X, AA DS2X, FXAA & SMAA Off, Reflections Medium, Particle settings Medium, All the rest at high. Detailed Grass Off.
      I have 2 GTX 780 OC (gpu 1073 Mhz, memory 1647 Mhz).
      3D fire strike : +/- 13500.

My framerates at Zolder, Formula A, 23 opponents :
Clear weather : Race start minimum 75 fps, during race +/- 100 fps.
Heavy rain : Race start minimum 55 fps, during race +/- 80 fps.
Around 2450MB GPU memory is used with these settings.

I’m still fine tuning my settings.(Bought PC during steam sales)

There is still room to raise some settings but my primary focus is to have the game running smoothly.

So when buying a new card I would recommend at least 4GB Vram because when I start to increase AA on my triple screen resolution I easily reach the 3GB limit of my GPU’s.

Project Cars supports SLI extremely well, both gpu are at 98% load.
One of my GTX 780 OC has similar performance of a 780 TI at stock clock speeds. And a 970 is to be compared with a 780 TI.
My guess is that compared to my settings you will need to lower AA, maybe use SMAA instead and have other settings at medium. But that’s only a guess.

As silvio said, the image is bit stretched because no triple screen settings are present. AC did this very well so I’m a bit dissapointed the devs did not implement it in PC 2.0 update. Raceroom got the same issue. But I would never return to single screen just because of that 😉

Setting up triple screen in Nvidia control panel is easy. Set the monitors in the right order (10sec), adjust bezel correction (10sec) and you’re done.

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

        All good info, thanks Nic.
Well if I would need to buy another 970GTZ/4Gb graphics card then that’s an extra expense I need to consider on top of 3 screens.
I`ll have to do my sums and see where I’m at.

      • https://soundcloud.com/glen-orpheus Glen Orpheus

there are a few other things to take into consideration, such as SLI & Crossfire don’t always give good results, in fact Rfactor 2 performs far better with one card, also having 2 cards can also bring micro stutter to the table, i suggest if you are considering an upgrade, do your research and leave no stone un turned 🙂

its always best to go with the most powerful single card you can afford, for best results

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Right. But if I must shell out for a 980 and sell my almost new 970 then the budget will take a small hit.
I mean it’s either triple screens now or save a bit more and grab a Fanatec Clubsport Base V2 with BMW and Formula rims.

        Decisions decisions 🙂

    • http://derekspearedesigns.com/ Derek Speare

      Seeing as you asked 🙂

Proper three screen support in the modern age is mandatory. iRacing, AC, LFS, for example, serve as models for what to do right. It was my drum beating at RD some time ago that got Kunos to integrate it early on for AC, and the user base is better for it. I’ve tried the same clanging with Cars, but there’s still room for improvement.

I personally don’t recommend a three screen experience with something that isn’t optimized to support it. You’ll find warping and will be sorely disappointed when comparing against other titles using it. And yes, you will be running three screens so your video/CPU will be pushing that many more pixels creating a greater load, which, fortunately, can be balanced with reduced graphics settings. However, if you’re demanding maximum eye candy and frames – which everyone does – and not willing to back it down – which some do not – then you’d likely not enjoy a three screen experience. Warping kills the deal for me personally.

Fortunately, we have VR! I was a staunch supporter of three screens for the longest time. Now, however, VR is on the move and will likely cause three screens to lose popularity as we get more traction with quality VR hardware and software implementation. My personal support for three screens has been given a backseat to VR now. VR is the future of gaming.

My recommendations are to wait for the consumer VR devices and use your three screen money for a VR HMD. The is especially recommended if your favorite titles are not optimized for three screens.

A GTX780 runs three screens just fine on my own personal sim racing system. Good detail is set and I expect good frame rates; most folks who have been gaming are pretty good and getting a balance, and the system I use performs very well. Though now any time I get to drive on goes the Oculus and off I go…I won’t even drive with the screens now…there’s no reason.

      The short version:

      1 – get three screens if your sim racing titles of choice are optimized or you’re willing to tolerate the warping if not;

2 – forget three screens and get a VR device as soon as you can

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Thanks for taking the time to write all that Derek. All noted.
I will have to try VR first before I can even consider committing and my decision will not be based on how amazing it is or how popular it will become. There are other considerations. Can I sit through it without any adverse effects. That is what I must find out.
Triple screens is going to also mean clearing my desk of everything else on it. Tower, sub-woofer, HDD caddy.
        But those are easily relocated.
        I know it’s a little off-topic now but can I ask how rF2, RR3E & GSCE are for triple screen support ?

      • http://derekspearedesigns.com/ Derek Speare

I very much recommend that you take some time with VR. There is a bit of an adjustment period when your mind gets acquainted to it, and some “VR induced disorientation” can be apparent. I had it to a slight degree at first, but never now, and I use VR every chance I can.

Here are the titles that have three screen support in some manner:

        iRacing
        LFS
        AC

(these titles give you the ability to make bezel compensations and adjust for side monitor angles)

        rFactor, rF2 and GSC (iirc)

(Those use “Multiview” and have a more limited control set, but ISI’s support for three screens do have a “render three screens” type optimization like the iR, AC and LFS. GSC uses rfactor’s tech and I think it has a “multiview” option)

Simbin’s titles do not have three screen support.

Please note to all reading: I am not criticizing any of the works or any sim racing title! Cars and RR3E have really good in car VR!!! Quite possibly they had VR on their Roadmaps and decided to leap right over three screen support in favor dedicating resources to a better VR experience.

Speaking of that, LFS is really great with VR and was the first sim to integrate it. Well done!

Yes, there are real estate considerations to three screens. I have 3 28″ screens and they take up room, there’s no doubt. I do like having all that space for Windows and there’s something to be said for multi-screen computing as a productivity aid 😉

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Luckily a friend of mine has the Rift Dev Kit (I think that’s what it’s called) and it’s no bother to go see him and try it out in Elite (he’s not a sim racer unfortunately).
If it works for me then it is definitely something to consider.
It must be quite the different experience to essentially 2D screens even in triplicate.

I don’t really touch LFS any more but it’s still installed and I would go back to it if the VR option came to fruition.

Thanks for all the info Derek. It’s enough to make me consider these things before jumping in.

i have 2 x original titans not titan x as you do. AA settings to max and have a intel 3970k overclocked to 4.4ghz
    16gb corsair dominator 1833mhz memory.

thats real strange that you are able to get away with a 3 gig card as some games i play on triples use 3.6gb, hence why i said 4 is a safe bet.
