Doesn’t affect me, but I’m interested if people who had issues with Shift and their ATI cards, finally get their issue fixed.

  • f0xx

I have an ATI HD4870 and now it runs smoothly!
Cars handle better, tunning works and my cars top speed limit is fixed, cars dont do jump like crazy…FFB is better… so many fixes.

Its a new experience, specially because of the hraphics performance.
Im loving the game now that is playable!

  • holy_sword

I can’t wait to read the comments about this patch, this is a very entertaining blog :sd:

  • Howie47

I can’t find the new cars. Yes my game was modified. Hope that’s entertaining?

  • Mr. A

They should be in your garage. You don’t have to buy them.

If you do a clean install, you still keep your driver profile right ?
I’ve moved over to Win 7 64bit and Im hoping I can pass over my profile from my XP install over to this one.
I haven’t installed Shift yet so I just want to do a clean install, add the patch and pass over my old profile.
I`ll have to note down my controller settings from my XP install too.

Is the steering a bit tighter now since the patch ?

  • mikeahowski

I played for about 15 mins. Cars seem a lot better, no more super tail happiness around every easy corner. Steering is OK, not great..still feels spongy to me, but feels improved. Graphics performance is improved and FFB feels better. I’m not the best reviewer so try it for yourself it is worth it.

@F1Racer I did the same thing and it worked fine concerning your profile.

  • HOBBS77

I still have the delay problem when shifting or when I press the button for rear view, there’s a .3-.5 delay. Vista amd athlon 6000+ bfg 9600 gt oc g25 all drivers updated yesterday. The update is an improvement but there’s still some issues that need attention. Everthing works great in Dirt 2 demo,no button delays there.

  • Howie47

I had to do a clean install before the patch would install. It kept my profile. The new cars are now in (my cars) section. Steering feels good to me.
Id have to drive the exact real car to make a good judgment about how true it is. But I’m statisfied.

  • max1492

I was hoping for a fix that allows using two controllers simultaneously, e.g., a G25 wheel and CST pedals. But, alas, it still doesn’t work. Results in a HUGE dead zone in the wheel, which goes away if you use the G25 pedals. Just like before.

Oh well. I guess it really wasn’t intended to be a sim. Note that all the PC sims of note support two controllers, going as far back as Viper Racing.

  • Howie47

To bad Max. This is a rather new game engine. First game on PC, I believe. Remember Dirt1 would barely run on the best systems. Many others had years, and many generations to be optomized. It’s working fantastic for me. Using G25 pedals. This and Dirt2 will meet my racing needs for some time to come.

I really think it’s a matter of priority/focus. Viper Racing was a new game engine in 1998 but it still supports two simultaneous controllers. As it was meant to be a sim. As do all the rest of the sims (RBR, GTR2, rfactor, etc.). But this wasn’t a focus for NFS Shift. But that’s fine, it’s a great non-sim game as far as I’m concerned. It plays well for what it is. Better than GRID IMO.

    Hi,

I drive iracing, gtr2, rfactor, gt5, etc… I think this is a sim. With a mix of feelings but yes it’s a sim. Patch has improved everything and now we have not a beta 🙂

    REgards,

    B.

  • riches

Such a shame FFB on the G25 will work only properly with it’s own pedals.
My CST pedals are fixed in my cocpit, so im not going to put the old plastic pedals back just to play this.

  • FooAtari

Wonder if they will update the demo with the fixes…

Having an ATI card the demo ran like crap. I’m not sure I would bother with Shift to be honest. I have all but stopped playing Forza having moved back to my PC sims, which I have so many of, I really do not need another one.

But still I’m interested to see how the improvements have improved the graphics and handling.

Do not worry the performance with ATI now is wonderful, pure joy :sd:

Only the crossfire is having some issues..

Does this patch annul the changes made by the Real Mod? I mean, I’m halfway through the game and I really enjoy my 10 lap races and how the car handles…. but I’d like to fix the issues, so, if I install this patch will have to (and even so, can I) install the Real Mod again? Or will my current settings stay? Anyone tried it yet?
    Thanks

The biggest reason I replaced my Acts-Labs pedal and DFP wheel set up, with the G25. Was that very dual controller issue. It frustrated me for years; not letting many (driving simulators) to work. (not to be confused with a full racing simulator), of which there is none. Including the likes of iRacing, RaceON, etc etc. Which are missing many of the elements of a racing simulator. I wouldn’t encourage any one to rely on dual controllers. It isn’t a priority for developers who make a living at this; because so few have dual controllers. As the engine is optimized in the future it maybe added.

You can only install the patch on a non-modified, non-unpacked game. So you cannot have RealMod installed and apply this patch.

Re-install the game (or, if running an unpacked game, remove the unpacked folders and rename the Backup_pakfiles folder again to Pakfiles), then apply the patch.
You can then unpack the game again and apply your mods again, or apply mods to the packed game, whatever you prefer.

Patch works great here, Crossfire support took some twiddling but I’m now running smooth solid 60 FPS on all tracks which was most important for me.

Car handling is very different now, no more extreme oversteer so no need anymore for RealMod 🙂

  • Sensekhmet

The improvements to handling can be definately felt. It’s still not as sharp as traditional sims are I think but there are no more random forces tugging at the wheel, fishtailing in a straight line (felt like an old RWD live axle Peugeot on Safari rally :sd: ) and unexpected handling quirks: I have a lot more confidence while driving. The new cars are sweet, I did expect a bit more bias ply + drum brakes mayhem, though. Thumbs up SMS and EA (*gasp*).

    Hi Redi,

Do you know how to upgrade the patch with the Steam-version. I tried yesterday, but it didnt install.

Steam games should update themselves. Its possible they didn’t put the patch out yet for steam.

Well I installed the Real Mod version that didn’t need unpacking (I think it was version 1.2 or 1.3, dunno) but i definatly remember it was a version that didn’t require unpacking anything….

Reinstalled from fresh, installed the patch, put in the new Nvidia drivers and all is good.

Fave DLC car… the Corvette Stingray, easy.

I can´t buy the 5 new cars!! why??
i reinstall the game and nothing…..

You might want to check your garage before pulling your hair out. 😉

  • pablovg

I check my garage and nothing…
when I try to buy a supra(or gt500,challenger..) nothing happens
and check my garage and only the normal cars but the new cars…nothing
    :sad2:
    (sorry for my english XD)

  • kill4f00d

I knew beforehand that this patch wouldn’t fix everything, so I’m not that dissapointed.

  • DW

Still lots to explore and test but the improvement in framerate with my ATI card is staggering! At the back of a full grid my frame-rate has doubled. When driving alone the boost is a more modest but still very welcome 20% increase.

    Thank you SMS!

Initially I got no change in fps. Then I realised my shortcut went to a re-named exe file – grid.exe. I’d left an exe named shift.exe and this had been patched but until I re-directed my shortcut I wasn’t using it.
I just mention this in case someone else has tried the re-naming trick and forgotten.

Sounds like your patch didn’t install properly. Maybe you have mods? It will only work on an unmodified install.

No i don´t have mods and i reinstall the game three
times and reinstall the patch and nothing

  • gundwane

Cars located at tier2..but weird thing is cars are free and once you buy they disappear from car lot..:D

  • kill4f00d

Try right clicking on the patch and choosing “Run as Administrator”. It might work.

  • http://www.hellward.dsl.pipex.com/ Hellward

Pablovg, just a thought, did you try installing the first patch, then the latest one ?

Pleased with the latest patch…extra 20fps on a full grid,FFB feels better (G25), and the tuning works, at last. The new cars are great too.

Ati 4890, [email protected] winXp 4gb ram.
AA *8, edge detect, AF *16, all max, v-synch off. av 45fps.
    Well pleased.

  • carbonfibre

Might as well leave my consensus here as well. I was one of the users who gave Shift a fair chance but in the end put it down thanks to appalling FFB, jerky performance and gameplay.

With patch 2, the excessive oversteer mechanic has been dumbed down noticeably, performance is smoother keeping 60fps more of the time, but everything else is essentially the same including the FFB.

There is still a large dead zone in FFB that moves about during cornering due to the feel of the body weight. It is unnatural and I still don’t like it. Overall forces on my G25 are still very consistent and un-dynamic with medium grip forces being dialled out in the fine degree between going straight and slightly turning before a tidal wave of back pressure is felt as the weight shifts. There is still no effect of light steering during understeer.

Note: This is including using stock G25 and custom configs with correct GripFactor settings amongst others.

The muscle cars don’t give an extra grief in their handling and the experience of lugging around a huge big block over a light rear axle remains unchallenging to a Historic GT rFactor enthusiast; allowing ridiculous manoeuvres with little consequence. I don’t intend that as criticism by any means, all I mean to say is the DLC doesn’t infringe or overhaul on the already established easy to drive physics of Shift. If anybody out there thought SMS wanted to up the ante with this patch, it isn’t a holy grail and didn’t say it was.

Small input lag remains across all input devices and gear select delays still exist if using a H-shifter.

What I am most surprised about still is that they didn’t think to eradicate the language select screen or the smorgasbord of confirmation screens after startup. 😐 Yet I half-heartedly drag myself back to Shift for a few more months gameplay maybe, as the patch seems to have relinquished interest regardless of it’s benefits I feel.

  • Sensekhmet

It’s true that the whole process of starting the game makes one cringe at the very thought after a few times. I think it requires no less than 4 or 5 key presses.

  • DW

After the very clever GTR2 menu, SMS do seem to have dropped the ball with this aspect of Shift.

Also having been amazed by the frame-rate improvement, the new cars are a little disappointing. Nicely modelled of course but somehow lacking the character they have in GT Legends and the upgrades don’t seem in keeping. Is anyone really going to fit a sequential gearbox to a 67 Corvette? Or a turbo for that matter.

Still, perhaps an opportunity for modders?

  • http://asd pablovg

    thank you!!!
    now run pefect!!!

  • Howie47

All I got to say about “Carbonfiber’s” assessment, “consensus” I’m sure glad he’s not in charge of making any racing games. Or maybe he does have a hand in those terrible, really suck mods in rFactor! :weird:

  • mattabater

i think carbonfires issues might be more personal 😀

  • Sensekhmet

DW: Is anyone really going to fit a sequential gearbox to a 67 Corvette?Or a turbo for that matter.Still, perhaps an opportunity for modders?

Why not? Ever heard of ProTouring muscle cars? Besides, the animation is still for an H-box.
Still, forcing the player to go forced induction on every car is not something I like (and the boost gauge is still broken!).

  • Howie47

mattabater: i think carbonfires issues might be more personal

    Carbonfiber: “my consenses”= classic-(NPD)!

  • vidal_g

    hi
i installed the game and i think i installed the patch….im a novice when it comes to these things….but the game still crashes right after the first movie intro “nfs shift”. please can anyone give me a step by step on installing the patch and getting the game to work :)..thanks in advance

  • lvolz

I’m using a PS3 (connected to internet). Some of the updates have been automatic when I start the game but for the DLC pack, where do I go and how do I get it? I’m normally a PC guy for gaming and SIMS so sorry for the crap question but they look like interesting cars (especially the shelby).

  • http://www.lakeisha-souvenir.com/ anabel

thanks.i just try to re-install the game and now the patch runs perfectly!
