iRacing.com – Mustang & Driving School Now Available

iRacing.com has released the Ford Mustang FR500S, adding a new car for road racing enthusiasts to their online racing simulation. iRacing subscribers can now purchase the car for $11.95.

Powered by a 4.6l V8-engine putting out 325hp, the Ford Mustang FR500S is an assembly-line produced racing vehicle that is eligible in various series aimed at privateer drivers, including the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup which is sanctioned by the Grand American Road Racing Association.

Furthermore, iRacing has opened their iRacing Driving School as a free service for all subscribers. Developed in co-operation with the famous Skip Barber Racing School, the Driving School consists of 16 instruction videos that will teach members a variety of fundamental driving skills including lessons on vehicle dynamics, braking, cornering and more. Some of the videos come with exercises to allow players to put the learned skill to use in the simulation right away.

And If you´re wondering if iRacing really does teach vital driving skills, iRacing member Wyatt Gooden won the VW Jetta TDI Cup race at Mid Ohio last weekend. The 21-year-old Gooden earned his seat in the series by competing in iRacing’s virtual version of the TDI Jetta Cup last year, outperforming over 1100 competitors.

As for iRacing teaching Wyatt his driving skills? He was a HELL of a driver when he was on rFactor!! I’d like to see him in something with more umph like a Star Mazda! Maybe you can say that talent filters to the top in iRacing (but it does in every other real sim too, though!).

The training videos are nice. Nothing to get too excited about, but they’re very well done for what they are. Nice focus on the differences between sim racing and reality and how to deal with that.

Best car in iR, simply as that.

I’m sorry i f this is a bit offtopic but i have question regarding buying tracks and cars that are not in the “base pack”. When I buy for example the indycar do I have to pay that price once or every month? :shame:

  • Ace Racer

kapten, the cars and tracks are a one time purchase, unless a track has some major renovation and they have to re-scan the whole track, they said we’d more than likely have to purchase the track again, otherwise once you pay for it, it’s yours for good…

Ok! Thankyou! Suddenly I don’t think it’s so expensive anymore :sd:

You also have the 20% discount for 6 items or more and 25% discount for 100% content owned.

It’s a little confusing but if any order results in 100% content owned you will receive the 25% discount. Be it 1 item or 10 items as long as when you make that order it result in 100% of the content owned you receive that 25% discount.

The driving behaviour looks real like nothing else. Looks great. But sthe sound is not as good as other cars.
