iRacing.com – Monza Preview Video

iRacing.com has released a first preview video of the Italian Monza track in their simulation.

iRacing.com has released a first preview video of the Italian Monza track in their simulation.

First announced in late 2013, Monza will be the first Italian race track to be included in iRacing’s simulation.

The Italian Grand Prix venue will come both with several layouts, including the current Grand Prix layout, the shorter Junior track as well as historical layouts. Also included will be the legendary banked part of the historic track that will also be usable for oval racing.

    MONZA OVAL!!!
    MONZA OVAL!!!

    • stabiz

      Careface,

    • Sim Antics

Yes I agree It’s a reason I still fire up rF2 every now and again

  • David Hughes

A non laser scanned track in iRacing… Interesting. I think it’s good they are loosening the noose a little to allow for a bit more fun, though it does go against a lot of what they have been preaching thus far.

    • QUF

They didn’t use laser-scan for Monza?

    • Justin Schmidt

what makes you think it isn’t laserscanned?

      • monsterZERO

I think he means the historic layout. How could it be laser scanned?

      • Justin Schmidt

they just take out the first chicane for the historic version. everything seen in the video is still there today.

      • David Hughes

Yes – the historic part – it was scanned before it was repaved, and before it was repaved it was unraceable.

      • Hurdy Hurdy

Same way Kunos laser scanned it for Assetto Corsa.

    • MatzeLoCal

Who said that monza is not laser-scanned? As far as I know Monza is scanned like any other track in iRacing

    • Smiggie

The old banking is still here, it is used during the Rally of Monza… They just laser scanned it…

      • David Hughes

You won’t be able to race on it if they did – the rally just used some of the better condition parts lower down the bank.

      • gianluca p

During the Rally Monza Show are used few parts of the oval simply because the event it’s divided into short special stages, not because rally cars can’t race over the full oval course.
Even Kunos scanned the oval when they scanned the track. The only part for which the devs have to work without the scan data is the part where the oval “meets” the modern layout, a very small part of the full thing.

      • MatzeLoCal

But the banking has (partly?) been repaved in 2014 …

      • gianluca p

Nope, the old banking has an old ruined asphalt, they put just some patches over it.

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLIqq4FHpZ0

I guess you are confusing with the run off area of the last turn of the modern layout (Parabolica), that last year was modified putting asphalt where before there was sand.

      • MatzeLoCal
      • David Hughes

It was scanned before the repave.

      • gianluca p

mmhh… I’ll search some videos then, because unless rules have changed the old banking it has to be still open to the public and people are always taking pics and videos.

      • Cart3r

Look at your video again, and compare it with this one. Your video has already the new repaved asphalt.

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H30e2WHqqZg

      • gianluca p

You’ re right. I was looking for new asphalt and a plane perfect surface though, that’s what fooled me. What I see in the video looks like a thin layer of concrete that covers a bit the old tarmac, not asphalt. But I’m using a terrible netbook and it’s like watching gameplays recorded at 5 fps, so maybe -also this time- it isn’t exactly like I’m saying. 🙂

      • Sim Antics

If Europe would show interest at having it’s own version of Nascar they would possibly invest in getting the ovals in Europe up to shape

      • Justin Schmidt

there is the nascar whelen euro series. they race on 4 road courses and 2 short ovals. don’t know why they are not racing at lausitzring oval and rockingham oval though.

      • Sim Antics

Popularity? Sponsor Dollars for events and teams?

    • ChevyGuy566

Their “historical” version is probably just the modern GP circuit with the chicanes removed which isn’t really the historic track since the Lesmos are not as fast as they used to be. I’m sure it’ll still be fun though.

  • Alexandre Martini

wow, wasn’t expecting for that many layouts… and quality is great, as always!

    • Hurdy Hurdy

Their email states 8 separate configurations, one of which includes the banked oval.

      • dd101

Is there a list (made by fans in a forum)?
        1) GP
        2) Oval
        3) Small
        4) GP without 1 chicane
        5) GP+Oval
        6) ?
        7) ??
        8) ???

      • Hurdy Hurdy

Tony Gardner posted this on the iRacing forum (without actually confirming which layouts):-

Tentatively actually 9 configs but at least 8. Will be able to drive the oval left or right.

The tentative 9th config is driving the whole combined track the opposite way. I guess a series did that back in the day in the 60’s or something. Maybe if not in the build will do that one at some point.

      • dd101

Just saw TheSimPit preview and they only mention 4 layouts.
The opposite way – what a magical moment. I wish there were more official and unofficial tracks for that.
PS “Green Hell” could also be used in reverse.

      • Hurdy Hurdy

Darin Gangi had 5 layouts, but he also added that he only had a BETA Preview build so it didn’t have all the layouts available. I guess Shawn @ SimPit also only had a BETA preview version lacking all layouts.

Considering who Tony Gardner is over at iRacing, if he’s saying 8 configs maybe 9, we’ll be getting 8 configs, maybe 9, lol.

      • MatzeLoCal

        6) GP Historic (aka without Chicanes)
        7) GP Historic + Oval

        8) GP without first chicane
        9) GP without first chicane + Oval

      • Anatoly Yakubov

Back in GP1/GP2 (MictoProse) there used to be “Variante del Rettifilo” as T1.

  • Blatant Abuse

Man. If iRacing simulated slip angle and weight transfer, I’d be all over that!

        Windscreen not found.

    • maranello55

what?? iRacing dun have those?? u sure???? The best simulator on earth???

    • David Dominguez

do you know what slip angle is?

      • Blatant Abuse

Yes I do, but don’t you think it’s kind of silly to ask someone if they know what something is? On the internet? Where they can just search for it? Hmm? Probably would be better just to copy and past the definition if you want to make sure someone knows what something is. Like this:
In vehicle dynamics, slip angle or sideslip angle is the angle between a rolling wheel’s actual direction of travel and the direction towards which it is pointing (i.e., the angle of the vector sum of wheel forward velocity and lateral velocity ).

      • David Dominguez

What is silly is to say that iRacing doesn’t “simulate slip angle and weight transfer”, when their effects can be easily felt while driving, and can be easily checked via telemetry.

That block of text that you wrote is more related to the relationship of the tire cornering force vs slip angle, which is a very different thing than “slip angle is not simulated”. Hence my original question.

      • Blatant Abuse

        Conceded.

  • Patrik Marek

cool! I can’t wait for iRacing making the move to new engine, it’s really the thing that I’m waiting for before being more serious about it, I know that for true simmer graphics doens’t matter, but I haven’t bought $300 GPU so that I’m playing games that look like 10 years ago with higher polycount

    • dd101

Don’t wait for anything in your life, enjoy it if you really want (complex physics with great online competition – two best things that could happen to a sim).

      • Patrik Marek

I have many other toys to play with in the mean time, so I think i’m good, but thanks for the advice

      • Michael Hornbuckle

The word I would use to describe their physics also starts with a ‘c’ but it isn’t complex…..
I might re-sub and buy this track just to spectate turn 1 though; the raging will be plentiful for sure.

    • Bakkster

It’s not the poly count affecting iRacing so much as the lighting. You don’t need a high poly model if you’ve been able to bump map it and make the materials look good. Dx11 should also help make the rendering more efficient so everyone can turn up their settings.

  • ImageArtSigns .

It is fantastic to see iRacing has included Monza with the old Oval track included, I still have that installed in my rFactor1…it is great to race on the long version which included the Oval…all iRacing needs now is good AI on their Steam version only and I would consider re-purchasing it….but that’s a whole new thread…lol

    • dd101

It’s called “rFactor2”. Do you happen to own it?

      • ImageArtSigns .

        Why yes…yes I do

  • eddiespag

    Monza preserved historically!
