iRacing Announces Time Trial Mode

iRacing has announced a quite significant new addition to their online racing competition – Time trials.

Until now, competition in iRacing was limited to online racing against other drivers. While players were always free to practice with any car and track they own, the lap times achieved there would not count towards their iRacing career.

This changes now as iRacing is introducing a new Time Trial mode that will follow their usual season structure, allowing subscribers to fight for the fastest time in hot-lap type time trial events.

Unlike races against other cars, the time trials come both without iRacing licensing restrictions and will not affect the player’s Driver Rating either.

Aside from the new feature, the new video below also gives us a little peek at iRacing’s upcoming new user interface.

One step closer to finally adding AI.

  • Marc Collins

Great! Automobilista already has this and it is good fun.

  • Hurdy Hurdy

It’s actually Time Attack that they are introducing. A way for solo hot-lappers to compete against other racers.

iRacing has had Time Trials for years.

But you had to complete a number of clean laps to be valid and the incidents influenced your SR.

      • Michael Henke

And no one participated (unless a Skippy driver).

  • Howard Clements-Gilbert

Any idea when this is being released?

Tbh, I am not sure if I’ll like the new interface. I always loved the web interface as a means to not be completely shut out of the “real world”.

“Until now, competition in iRacing was limited to online racing against other drivers”

Nope, there has been, as mentioned by Hurdy, Time Trials for years.
