GTPC for rFactor – New Porsche Trailer

The Virtua_LM Junior Team has released a new video trailer of their upcoming GTPC mod for rFactor.

The Virtua_LM Junior Team has released a new video trailer of their upcoming GTPC mod for rFactor.

The trailer highlights the many Porsche cars within the mod, the Stuttgart-based manufacturer held a major stronghold on endurance racing in the 80s and as such, a large part of the mod’s car list consists of Porsches.

Prototype C and will bring a massive amount of cars from one of endurance racing’s finest decades to rFactor, centering around the 1983 Le Mans 24 Hours. The mod includes both prototypes and GT cars and will come with over 500 liveries, including many rare cars of this spectacular era.

While rFactor might not be the most recent sim racing title anymore, this massive and carefully-crafted mod will be a perfect reason to give it another go!

Brilliant looking Mod, but again a bad taste for music imho. πŸ˜‰

    • Justin Schmidt

the track is called “porsches” so it fits.

      • faybn

Ok, makes sense. Thx for the info!

    • Sim Antics

The music is actually okay compared to some of this stuff we are subjected to. At least it’s original.

  • Sim Antics

Is this thing to the point where some kind of release can be made and an update added now and then to continue the work being done?

    • http://www.virtua-lm.cm/ Freddy Stapersma

yes probably.. we are working on many things for this mod. discglow. AI for some VLM tracks, readme, checking online racing for errors and a few other things.
and yes we found errors. some cars not working perfectly.

  • noroardanto

    The king of teasers ;p

    • http://www.virtua-lm.cm/ Freddy Stapersma

If you only knew how much I want you all to make videos while driving these babies.

  • http://www.virtua-lm.cm/ Freddy Stapersma

to be clear this is NOT a official teaser. it is a work I made because the the song was used in prototypeC back in 2005 and I loved it.
The story of the song is part of virtua LM history and because I am working on a book about the now 15 year history of the team this came up too.

Back in 2004 we had the oppertunity to use music from the artist ekstrak for our prototypeC mod for the racegame f1challenge.
I loved the music from the start and specialy Track 6 as it was called in our files.
Later I understood the song was called Porsches.
I always wanted to use that song for a video showing all our porsche we created for Protoype C.Sadly that never happened.
I remembered this when I was working on our teaser movie for the rfactor mod we are building.
I searched for our old prototypeC install and listened to the song again and still loved it.
I contacted Ekstrak if I could use it again for a video for the new mod or if it was licensed. I was allowed to use it.

Ekstrak and KNOW-1 made this song and was picked up at EA sports It was remixed and used for Need for speed Carbon.
The version in this movie is the original that was put into our Prototype C mod back in the days.
Remember Cabon came out in 2006.. our last service pack in 2005.

So this is not a offical team video but something I made to keep this song alive.
Still it shows our mod in a perfect way I think.

    • RangaTanga

I do prefer preview videos without music, but as you stated this song brings back memories to the Prototype C-mod for F1C.
Along with HistoriX for rF, PTC had an awesome soundtrack!
However, if there were to be another preview video of GTPC, why not use period music instead ? More fitting in a sense! πŸ™‚
I loved the intro to the official 1990 Le Mans video with Sniff ‘n the tears, yes not exact time period song-wise but still more fitting than techno.

  • Jorge Araujo

We’ll probably be at rFactor 5 if this one sees the light of the day for rF1.

    What a damn shame.

    • http://www.virtua-lm.cm/ Freddy Stapersma

Just a stupid reply not knowing anything about this mod and team.

      Just one thing..
How many mods where anounced on rfcentral in the last years and not finished at all?
how longdoes it take to create a “good” one car mod with 30,40 liveries?
This one has 35 different cars, iver 500 liveries.
The story why it took so long is written on this page too.

      • Jorge Araujo

You can yap and yap all you want, but at some point the mod just have to be released or otherwise it’ll be irrelevant if the mod gets released or not. Like, sadly, it is now. It really doesn’t matter much if GTPC gets released at this point because everybody moved on to other games or other stuff.

And the more sad thing, the modelling and skinning of this mod isn’t even close to be good by today standards. It would be top notch if released back in 2007 or 2008. Now, again sadly, doesn’t matter anymore.

And talking about quality mods, I’m a proud member of HistorX. I did two models for them before I lost interest in modding (the 904 and the Aston DB4). I know the process of making a mod. But we had a leader in the team, and he really had the vision of how to make things getting released. Those mod teams that never release their stuff usually have a fragmented structure, lacking a leadership even if they have more talent that a full game development team.

Sorry if I’m blunt on this, but a mod that never gets released is just meaningless. Doesn’t matter. Even if the pics and videos are outstanding and the team is truly talented – which make everything even more sadder. At this day and age, rF1 is pretty much dead modding wise. rF2 never picked up the pace – despite being good. AC could be the savior of the modding community, but doesn’t look like it’s a community worth saving now.

      • osella

Saying that rf1 is dead would be true IF there was ANY new decent sim actually finished. But that’s not the case – rf2, ac, pcars, r3e are ALL alpha versions in my view and still need years to feel semi complete. The feeling of completeness exists in no new titles so playing rf1 still feels great to me.

      • rci808

Apparently, You can yap and yap all you want too.

      • Jorge Araujo

        Obviously, isn’t it?

      • Justin Schmidt

historx is actually what i am driving most of the time with my buddys right now. sure we try out the newer titles but they are not finished as osella said. there are many fans of classic cars and there is no other currently available sim that offers mods with such big variety of cars in them. sure there are single car releases but thats “boring” if one likes big fields with a variety of machinery.

edit: i actually just drove that 904 minutes ago. one of my favorites in the mod. thx for that.

      • Jorge Araujo

        You’re welcome. πŸ™‚

      • Chris Wright

To be equally blunt, modders owe us nothing at all, anything is a bonus and, frankly, how long it takes is their business alone.

      • http://www.virtua-lm.cm/ Freddy Stapersma

This mod will be released “soon”.
We have contact with historicX and love their work.
And yes our team had problems and that almost made this mod going into the bin.
Lucky some members like HarryCS, Vivemclaren and swisshutless moved on slowly.
The models are lower poly but the idea from te start was to make a mod that could run full packs (45 cars on Le mans) and not only different liveries but different cars on a avarege computer. sure we could have made higherpoly cars but that was our main goal.

The servers at RF1 are still full. Looks dont mean a thing if the rest is crap.. Need for speed looks great too!
We made this mod because we love to make these cars. It is our descicion to still work for RF1 and probably Rf2 later.
It is our hobby and it is our descicion to show something to the community and hope they like it. I do not care if I you or someone else do not like it and moved on to another game. It is our hobby, our baby we do not owe anyone anythingy.
There are reasons why it took so long.
I will not write that all down again because it is useless to do so but we moved on and give eight years of work from a team away for free to use.
I personally been working on this mod for 2 years every single day a couple of hours. To give something away.
        Eight years needs dedication bigtime.
We are the first to say we want this out of our way and sure we know it took WAY WAY to long.
So sorry if you do not like that but please keep all this in mind when you download any mod from a team that works on something for free.

your last words “but doesn’t look like it’s a community worth saving now.”
makes me sad. There are many great modders out there doing great work. There are many racers loving a good sim.
Modding is not dead by far. Only splintered into many games.. (nothing new there too.)

      • Sim Antics

Here’s a huge amount of gratitude for you and your team for the effort put into this project. Some people just don’t get it. You can bet though that from me you get a big Thank You.

  • HIPOCRISIA

How a f/&%# music broke all the enjoyment……

  • Robert

Play this video with sound off plus this minized and loud.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqQuihD0hoI

    Works much better.

    • rci808

I prefer the song “Panama” on the period correct album “1984” from Van Halen.

“I can barely see the road from the heat comin’ off it”

      Rock on.

  • Traumahound

Sorry if I missed this fact earlier, but 928s?? I haven’t actually come across this car in any sim up til now, so this is also noteworthy for me.

    • rci808

Beta testing the GTPC 928 at Mid Ohio.

2 wheel drift after stepping rear end out while touching inside curb at entry of turn 2 (non chicane) right hand over the crest.

      Saved it.

      Extremely fun car to drive.

      (refresh for image)

      • Traumahound

        Thanks and here’s to two wheeling 928s! : )

      • rci808

        Cheers.

Safe to say, There’s a little bit of something for everybody in this mod.

        You all will love it!

      • Traumahound

Well, anything up til now with VLM’s stamp on it has been memorable, benchmarking goods, and their car releases have been much more sparse of late compared to tracks. And based on the work remaining, I’d like to think we’ll all be blessed with a lovely VLM Christmas present this year.

      • rci808

My fingers are crossed as well for this gift to be released for all to try for the Holidays.

    • Sky

Actually, there is a 928 in the BPR mod for GTR2, a mod to wich i am revamping the physics at the moment.

      • Traumahound

Oh yeah? I recall a 968 (and 911s of course), but I’ll have to go back and look for the 928. : ) BPR is great; one of GTR2’s most interesting collection of cars, imo. I look forward to trying an updated version, Sky.

      • Sky

Oh gosh, you are absolutely right, i didn’t see the car properly here! My apologies! As for the mod, i will release the new physics in the upcoming weeks, count with a lot more accurate values regarding aero, weight and other characteristics πŸ™‚

      • Traumahound

Heh! Great.. so long as you’ve plugged in data for the correct cars. : P

  • WorldYappy

Tremendous effort, looking forward to it. Everyone is a music critic.

  • Mario Strada

If the Virtua LM guys are reading this, could you please consider releasing a version for Game Stock Car? GSC makes some rFactor mods drive so much better. Also, you know that someone is going to convert it anyway, might as well get the jump on it. It would be a superior product for a very well appreciated Sim.

    • rci808

The team is very busy with daily life.

Best bet would be to convert it yourself and present them with the completed files for them to test and give permission.

If the files meet their standard? you get to use it with your GSC.

Any other version will not be supported by the Virtua_LM Junior Team.

      Pretty simple.

      • saistalab

converting to gsc takes about half an hour for an experienced modder to optimize everything. i completely agree with mario. they better do it themselfs or else i bet we’re gonna see conversions arise in a torrential pace with dubious quality standards

      • rci808

I’m not even sure any of the staff at Virtua_LM junior team even have this GSC you speak of.

I watched one of the Chief modelers fix three important issues today in the live beta test/build session. No half hour was available for converting.

Are you including AI, Tracks, and full details in the 1/2 hour time scale you predict it takes to pirate this mod to another platform?

I think I’ll stay in the platform the mod is being built for.

      • saistalab

“this” gsc just some threads earlier

        https://www.virtualr.net/game-stock-car-extreme-physics-improvements-preview

of course u can stick with rfactor, allow me to convert it for my personal use in probably less than 1/2 an hour πŸ™‚

  • Petros Dialektakis

Sorry for OT, but this music track immediately reminds me of NFS Carbon: nice soundtrack, but the game itself was very lousy.

    • http://www.virtua-lm.cm/ Freddy Stapersma

you could read it is the track but remixed.:
