GTPC for rFactor – Coming Very Soon…

The Virtua_LM Junior Team has released the intro video of their upcoming GTPC mod for rFactor.

If you are a long-time reader of VirtualR, you’ll know that coverage on Virtua_LM Junior Team’s GTPC mod for rFactor is almost as long-running as this site itself.

Kicked off back in 2006 and originally aiming to just convert Virtua_LM’s popular Prototype C mod for F1 Challenge to rFactor, the project has vastly expanded over the years, becoming much more than just a conversion, transforming into what is possibly the biggest rFactor modding project ever attempted.

Prototype C and will bring a massive amount of cars from one of endurance racing’s finest decades to rFactor, centering around the 1983 Le Mans 24 Hours. The mod includes both prototypes and GT cars and will come with over 500 liveries, including many rare cars of this spectacular era.

After years of work on the team’s side and year’s of anxiously waiting in the community, the story on this mod is looking to come to a happy end very soon as the mod’s release is apparently just a matter of days now!

To sweeten the last few days of waiting, the team has released the mod’s intro movie which you can watch below.

In the meantime, make sure to get started on dusting off that rFactor installation because if this mod won’t get you to reinstall ISI’s trusted gem, nothing else will!

  • Bart Stroobants

The intro movie looks like it’s from 2006 as well! πŸ™‚

  • Diego Colafabio

I will re-install rF just for this mod πŸ™‚ this is not a mod, this is a piece of history.

Ruin the experience whilst you are at it…

It’s an rF1 mod, NOT a GSC mod. Ignoring the fact you’ve just suggested to go over the modders’ backs to convert it, it is designed to run in rF1. It wouldn’t be the same.

      • melanieuk1

Agree, and this is one of the reason why modded content in rfactor 2 doesn’t impress me, its nothing to do with rfactor 2 it self, its the conversion, from rFactor, to GSCE to rfactor 2, it would be good if rFactor 2 had it’s own unique mods, rather than the constant conversions from other ISI motor based sims.

      • http://danmarr.weebly.com Danfilm007

Exactly! Mods made for rF2 are better in rF2 than rF1, and vice-versa. Individual content for each sim is better than lots of the same for lots of sims, IMO

      • TC

To be honest, mods from RF1 converted to GSC feels exactly the same, but you benefit of Reiza tracks and the updates ones you could find in RaceDepartment (made by Patrick most of them, and Alfredo R).

      • melanieuk1

And that is why Reiza could be losing potential income and customers, has you say.

“Anyone can do his own conversion with those tools for his own use”

Why should those that do that buy GSC, when they can convert reiza content to a similar sim right?.

      • TC

Not exactly. When you convert an Rfactor mod to GSC, you benefit mainly of upgraded visuals and effecs, Reiza’s road shaders, and other stuff. Some people may consider this not a big difference but, at least for me, it is a big difference.

But doing the opposite feels like downgrading the experience, although i’m aware that for some it’s not a big problem.

And, last but not least, you would playing something for free that isn’t free. Again, i know some people don’t care, but i pay for the sims that makes me enjoy.

i know your opinion about this and i know that many people only see GSC as a “mod”, that’s the way it is but i think is a shame.

      • DingoDave

They tend to need a little tweaking of the FFB but the ones that have had that time and love given to them that I’ve tried have been great in GSC.

      • VK

You could race with it in Rfactor1.

    • melanieuk1

Going to agree with you, as this was the reason why I purchased rFactor, it would be a serious crime, if I didn’t reinstall rFactor just for this mod.

  • Brandon Lee Moore

What the hell happened to the car at 38 secs?

    • RKipker

      I seen that, weird…like it lifted, maye turbulanc…. from drating… :^)

    • http://www.virtua-lm.cm/ Freddy Stapersma

it hit a rear wheel. It was a bug we found . It drove trough the bodywork.
but The original movie files where delteted after a HD chrash and found no time to redo the whole intro. πŸ˜‰

  • delpinsky

Amazing! ..But since I do not own rFactor, is there a sparkle of a chance to have this great MOD converted to rFactor 2 / AC at some point in the future? (I fear not…)

    • Chris Wright

Frankly it’s going to be worth the rF1 admission price.

      • delpinsky

I’ll think about it, once the MOD is available… πŸ™‚
But hopefully not at this “fair” price eheheh

        http://goo.gl/HUurUx

      • Chris Wright

That’s not cheap, but on the evidence of a couple of hours at the rF1 wheel for the first time in forever, still well, well worth it.

      • melanieuk1

It’s cheaper from the official developers site.

      • http://iamkittx.blogspot.com/ KittX

there are a lot of ripped GSC tracks in this vid πŸ˜€

      • melanieuk1

what a shame, it just strengthens my views that reiza should create their own engine, where at least it would be harder for their content to be ported to other platforms, that use the same engine has them.

  • Chris Wright

Given that the team’s Facebook page appears to be teasing some sort of countdown to Christmas Eve, I’ve already reinstalled rF1 with all the attendant Le Mans tracks and Enduracers mod. A while since I last raced it and, actually, it’s pretty serviceable even in this day and age.

Anyone who has read my posts down the years knows that I consider this mod to be THE holy grail of sim racing, basically because it has taken so many years and one wondered if it would ever see the light of day. The Group C era is my very favorite in the whole history of motorsport, probably due to the nostalgia of seeing Jacky Ickx clinch the World Endurance Championship in the Brands Hatch rain at the 1982 1000km – great to think some of these often forgotten cars will be in rF1, hopefully in the coming days!

    • Kondor999

Well said, sir! And thanks for that utility- very helpful.

      • Freddy stapersma

the utiity is also in the mod πŸ˜‰

      • Chris Wright

Thanks Freddy. Super excited for this.

  • http://danmarr.weebly.com Danfilm007

I don’t care how many people are going to say “oh, it looks like its from 2006”, or “wow it looks sh*t”. Never ever judge a book by its cover! The sounds are spot on, this probably is the biggest thing ever for rF1 (more arguably than Enduracers’ mod and CTDP 2006, both of what I am a fan!). I will admit now, I very rarely pilot a Simracing car. I try and I try and I try, I am no good (equipment is only part of this!). Instead, I let the AI race with themselves, take control of the cameras (I am an aspiring commentator so maybe that’s where this comes from!) and the best mods, IMO, are so often NOT the prettiest and up to date. So so so many single seater mods can’t run with each other, they bounce off kerbs, spin around and around. (These problems aren’t single seater exclusive, by the way) These cars have soul, they are exiting, dramatic. As I have seen so far, the mod does replicate this perfectly!

One final point: My favorite rF1 mods? In no order, Enduracers LMS, Enduracers Flat6, Classic Formula Vee, HistorX, DRM, CTDP 2005/2006, and Blancpain Endurance 2012. I have lots of other mods that I will download and watch for fairly short periods of time, but these are the ones I will install first, the ones I will sit at my PC for 30 mins or so at a time and watch, these are the ones that make me feel like I am in the sim, in the track there at that point. No other mods make me feel quite like that, If the Group C mod can even get half of what it is offering, then congrats guys, an almost promised slot sits on my list.

    • melanieuk1

Would be brilliant if they included all the virtualm circuits with the mod, as a complete package, would also be good for users to promote it, for rFactor, when it is ready for a steam release.

      • Freddy stapersma

That would make the mod to big….

      • melanieuk1

Could the team at least provide a download link, where we would be able to get the complete virtualm circuits, to go with this mod, I suppose links to the circuits would be hard to find now.

      • Chris Wright

Everything is still available at the VLM website.

      • melanieuk1

Yes found them all on their emacberry forum.

      • Freddy stapersma

        all except 1991-1996
        are done in AI training.

      • Freddy stapersma

HMM. might pack them up later. (the ones we did AI training for.)

    • rci808

Speaking on behalf of the Beta testing team, Be careful with the AI.

We did the best we could. AI is a unique blend of paths in the track, values per .hdv files for each car, and the Talent files assigned to each car. It would literally take another 8 years to solve each and every bug/flaw in the artificial intelligence for this size of mod.

There will be forums where input will be viewed and assessed. All proven fixes can then be applied to original Virtua_LM material and released in official patches.

Hope you have fun with the mod.

      Best.

      • Chris Wright

AI was always the Achilles heel of rF1, so I for one have my expectations for GTPC well under control in this area.

Having reinstalled rF1 in anticipation of this seismic release, I’ve been reminded of how wonderful a sim it can be, but how limited the AI integrity is in general.

Hopefully there will be sufficient enthusiasm to make this ultimate mod as good as it can be and work will continue to make tweaks here and there.

This is so going to be the star of the holiday period – always my most intense simming of the year once the Christmas festivities are done.

      • Michel Forest

Hopefully this will be available as a torrent.

Cannot wait for this! Still play Rf 1 from time to time, best game for vintage F1 seasons.

      • Freddy stapersma

We hope people will start to share it there. we have a couple of Mega accounts first.

      • Michel Forest

Just saw the message on Facebook: release tomorrow. Wow!!!!!!!!

        Amazing news!!

And I am sure these megaupload servers will be busy!!!

Thank you guys! You did it!!!

      • noroardanto

Thanks for the info. I hope we can d/l the cars and livery separately. I suppose half of it is liveries?

  • RKipker

Thanks for the effort guys, all the time and work you guys got it done and I for one relly appreicate the work.

I’ll have time off during the Holidays to run these beauties!

  • Rantam

Glad to see this mod is being released in a couple of days. After such long development time I’m sure it’s going to be great.. Thanks Virtua_LM guys! πŸ™‚

    • Freddy stapersma

we hope we can live up the expectations.
This is made by the junior team without much help of the senior team.

  • Hagen TrΓΆger

    very soon is before rF3?

    • Freddy stapersma

Boring answer because we know best in the world we are very, very late.
You obviously missed something in the last 2 years.
We are happy it comes out at all. Altho for a older game it could also been thrown away but it was worth to much to us.
so please move on to a newer game if you do not like it.

  • Francesco Kasta

re-install rF1?? Man, rF1 has never been uninstalled from my HD in the first place! It’s right there, sitting next to AC and rF2.

How could I ever give up racing mods such “Historic GT & Touring cars” and “DTM Revival” ??

    • gt3rsr

Don’t forget DRM. For me the best mod rF ever.

      • melanieuk1

        OK Grandad πŸ™‚

      • Traumahound

        ? : /

      • melanieuk1

He changed his post, his original post was talking about the glory of driving old historic cars, compared to modern cars, don’t misinterpret my comment, no harm intended. πŸ™‚

      • TC

I guess is what he wanted to say: “DRM Revival”.

And i completely agree, but at the same time i add the other mod/instalations i still have in my PC that i don’t plan to erase anytime soon:

        -Enduracers
        -Touring Car Legends
        -Rallyworld
        -VHR Stockcar
        -V8 Unleashed
        -CART Factor
        and a few more…

      • Francesco Kasta

TC is right, I meant the DRM mod !!! Brain fart lol

  • toyvonen

This was one of the reasons i allways kept my RF1 instaleed, so it enough said…it will be THE BEST mod ever in sim comunity! And i’m sure it will be just a matter of time untill we begin to see some of the JEWLS converted to more modern platforms….anyway i know this is coming very soon indeed, and that untill the end of the year, i’ll be experimenting some of my dream cars…OH Xmas!

  • Richard Hessels

My multiple rF1 installs never get dusty.. looking so forward to do a extra loooong session on Le Mans…

  • David Hughes

What is expected to be so good about this mod – is it just the sheer amount of content in it? Or are the car physics supposed to be worthy of all those years of work also?

    • melanieuk1

Everything you mentioned plus some more, and the waiting that those that originally purchased rFactor for this mod.

    • Freddy stapersma

we hope to live up to that expectation too…
We do not know. people who tested it loved it. it is tested by people who drove some of these cars.
but really we do not know. who drove a grid S1 in real live or a rondeau? All we did is dail in the numbers we could find of historical data and experience by our real race drivers who helped and did the physiscs.
Some are pretty hard to drive. like the 930,934 who are really tail happy.
Same for the CK5 wich was called a driving brick at the time altho some real good drivers made history with that car too.

  • Gerasimos Moutsioulis

I must add that the mod has also some original music I created πŸ™‚ Be glad to be part of the whole effort someway, you’ll soon find out that your anticipation was well worthy, it is a brilliant mod.

  • Gui Cramer

I’m guessing the people in charge are looking for ways to get a break from family and also get their heads off work? :p

  • Justin Cruze

    Okay….time to re-install rf1

  • Ricardo Costa

Well pass lipstick on my lips and call me bitch if GTPC comes out soon. This mod was the very reason I got a license for rFactor back in November of 2006. Hope it happens. Good luck and merry xmas, guys and girls.
