F1 2010 – Fifth Developer Video Trailer

Codemasters have released the fifth of their developer diary videos, showing us brand new footage of their upcoming Formula One 2010 title for the PC, Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3.

This time, the trailer focuses on what’s going on in the pits and the paddock, showing us some of the title’s off-track features like dealing with your team mates and the press.

The trailer marks the first time we get Β to see the title’s car setup screens and shows us lots of animated drivers & mechanics in plenty of new gameplay footage.

Following their maiden Formula One title that was released only for the Playstation Portable and the Nintendo Wii, Codemasters will be bringing the 2010 Formula One season to the PC, the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. F1 2010 has been confirmed to be released in September 2010.

  • F1Racer

Heh, looks bloody sweet.  I’m sure people will think you can’t have these animations and be focussed on a full simulation too but I think it will present a nice balance.

I did notice in the McLaren pits that it was laid out exactly how McLaren have it this year with the computers etc right in the middle of the garage.    So no detail left out there.
Setup screens look a bit awkward though, lots of cursor key work it seems.
Still it looks very in-depth overall.

  • f1racing

well every day I am more and more unpatient for this game…I was planing that I will wait until I have money to buy it, but I think I’ll borow money from someone if I need to get the game the day it come in stores. And if codemasters implement things like safety car in F1 2011 then I think there is no reason to change owner of F1 licence. CM is doing really good work…

  • RedSun

Why is game so dark? Its not realistic! Its stupid effect from codemasters which is used every codemasters games (GRID,DIRT…) i hate this.

  • f1racing

and I have one question. That thing just came on my mind…when we are playing career mode are we able to make our own helmet design or we will be using helmet of driver who are we replacing??? That is not mentioned as I remember, so I hope someone from codemasters can answer it

  • TheSTIG

Man this game looks cooler with every dev. diary =-O

  • F1Racer

yes but that kind of realism isn’t a priority.  The physics is where we want the most realism.  The darkness of the game isn’t an issue.  Maybe its the video, maybe its their brightness, maybe its your brightness, maybe when you play it, it will actually be bright enough for you.

  • F1Racer

If when Alonso wins (with or without help from his team-mate), if I see him doing that duck thing with his hands, I’m uninstalling πŸ™‚ .

  • Raphael dos Reis Oliveira

AWESOME!!!! That will be a COMPLETE F1 game…I think my days of GP4 are ceasing… πŸ˜€

and….better late than ever, a video showing the game out of Spa-Francorchamps track. Really nice…

  • DevilDare

I wonder if there will be team orders…  πŸ˜‰  πŸ˜€

You will probably have to let Alonso pass you… ;D

  • BjΓΈrn

Yeah, his “waving”? Haha might uninstall it as well if I see that πŸ˜€

  • Arioch

At least Codemasters removed the Safety Car. We will not see Hamilton overtaking it, or it being used as a weapon against Alonso. Fair enough for me πŸ™‚

  • Wesley

    Hahahaha great jokes guys!

But now OT, this game is looking better and better, love the whole idea around the racing actually, that is just impressive, got no other words for it. Would be great if you can walk freely through the motorhome

  • Ross Siggers

I’m wondering how they’ll implement the answering of questions, would there be multiple choice options for you to choose from, etc? The driving and graphics themselves look brilliant, as always. The setup looks to bee a good sim/fun balance too,

  • Helios_CM

Choice of 3 answers for every question.

  • Helios_CM

No helmet designer, but we have quite a few preset designs for you to choose from.

  • Helios_CM

Uploading to YouTube always seems to darken videos, it’s quite strange. The video seems brighter on Gamespot. Plus if the game is too dark for you, you can always turn the brightness up in-game.

  • qawaza

    Paddock simulation? =-O I need a model girl friend then… πŸ™‚

  • Ben Jacobs

This just gets better and better. Also, I don’t think I’ve seen this much positive feedback from simracing gamers in years!

  • f1racing

thanks for reply. so there will be presets, but will we be able to color them in way we want???

  • Dave

Taking a look at the vid just wonder why ye implemented 1 to 10 values in the setups instead of real world values, also i know that ye have a default setup for each track the question here is are the values away from default based on a default track setup
eg you pick a car them a track call it track(A) and go to setup ,assume default wing is 10 degrees(value on screen is 5) for this track and each click is 1 degree i can vary wing from 5 to 15 degrees
now if i go to another track (B) and into setup and default wing in this is 20 degrees(value on screen is 5 ,when i change by clicks the wing goes from 15 to 25.
hopefully you can shed light on whether 5 is meant to be the same value for each track or as the example above
Next how are the values that we cannot see in setup but can be adjusted in rl being calculated by the game physics engine.

  • Pitters

This is the final dev diary, but I don’t recall anyone mentioning the AI. I wonder how good or bad it is. If physics is important to some people, I think good AI will be just as important to others. Hopefully we’ll see something like GP4 rather than like rFactor.

  • Ahmad

I thought there was going to be a video on damage?

  • Jack

i think it was mentioned in the past that you can either change the real world value or there is 4 preset setup for newbies like me

  • Dave

there is no real world values in the vid ,default is 5 and you go up or down by 5 steps.

  • David Wright

I wasn’t really looking forward to this as much as earlier diaries but the in-garage animations were very impressive and I think I can live with the interviews.  Nice to see the graphics continue to improve.

As I’ve said before I think these developer diaries are a great idea when done this well, and hope ISI, Simbin and SMS do something similar in the future.  Its also good to see the chief developer posting regularly on the Codies forum – I’m amazed he has the time and the patience.

  • Jack

would be cool to see what will happen if i dont let Alonson pass!! πŸ˜›

  • Michael

He has the time because he’s not a developer πŸ™‚

  • Michael

…and really they’ve had no choice.

Ideally they’d be showing the game, not showing people talking about it. Or typing to twitter talking about it. Or talking about in on forums.

So yeah, his ouput by itself was actually a pretty poor substitute for releasing good previews.

But it’s fair to say that, had the licensing / approval process been a bit more sensible, his output would have been a good addition.

Hopefully ASAP they’ll start showing us the actual game though.

I’m not that impressed with the way they cut some of Ant’s sentences in these videos either.

In the simulation one they took half of his sentence that completely changed the meaning of what was said (i.e took a very specific statement and made it sound like he’d made a general one) Albeit in a rather daft follow up to their editing they put the whole sentence in the extended version.

Similarly in this one they’ve cut off the first half of whatever specific thing he said was “way beyond any computer game I’ve played before” – making it sound as though he’s making a broad, general comment about the entire game (at least, given the precedent I suspect that’s what they’ve done we don’t yet have the unedited footage – if we ever will)

If they are going to do nothing other than publish people talking about their game I’d much prefer to actually let said folk talk and not manipulate and edit their words to say something else.

  • Philip Oakley

The game for full on sim is GTR2, RACE series, rFactor, and iRacing. For me, this game is just going to be pure fun. I may not do a career season, because of the drivers not changing teams, but I’ll definitely do a championship mode with 100% races. Helios, is the championship mode the same ‘Live the Life’ thing as the career mode is, i.e interviews,  the paddock, and everything mentioned in this video?

  • Substance242

Interesting, I like the fact you do start the weekend with the car almost ready, changing just a setup details.

I also hope they care about PS3 version as much as about Xbox one, because they hardly mention any technical details or differencies.

And, the music theme at the end always reminds me of Nine Inch Nails song “Closer”, pure copy or steal if you like (I do not know who is Uncle… forgot who).

  • f1racing

Wel, I am more conserned about PC version, because I don’t have PS3 or X360…

And the detail about almost ready cars, well, thet is realistic. Teams always come to track with cars ready and driver only adjusts little details to match his driving style….nice detail to implement in game

  • Harpo245

2:05, I’ll just buy the game for it’s ultra realistic simulation of Rubens Barrichello.

  • i am the law

    Pit girls.  Binary, DX10 ones?

Because F1 objectifies women the game has to too?

Perhaps the drivers make use of prostitutes sometimes?  Is that in the game too?

  • F1Racer

That’s going a bit far and wide isn’t it ?    And F1-2010 is DX11 going by what they said in an earlier video.

  • AndreasT

I don’t believe that this “kind of realism” is the true reason to use a scale of 1 to 10. And teams nowadays make some baseline setups prior to the race weekend in their simulators. So what we actually need is a sim within F1 2010. πŸ™‚

  • Darman

If that little box says GFWL required, this game just failed before release.

  • i am the law

    DX11 then.    πŸ˜‰

A bit far?  Maybe, but I don’t see why ‘just because it happens in real life’ is any reason to extend the frankly obscene exploitation of women by F1 (and TV, and everything else).   Yes, it’s part of life, and computer games are part of life.  But still – to make a virtue out of such a representation is a bit much?

PEGI 3+    Is this what Codemasters want to teach small children?  That women are of value only for their looks, as trophies, as accoutrements?

I think it’s a revealing and interesting insight to the culture.

Another example – Empire TotalWar, a game about war and imperial conquest omits blood.  Killing people is fine, you see, it’s just the bleeding that’s a problem for the kiddies.  Bizarre.  Even perverse.

Pit babes (sans nipples) are fine, seemingly.   War without blood too.

I find the pitbabes stuff insulting to women, but also to men.  Likely I am the only man in the world to think so…..but…..lol

  • i am the law

For all my complaints, though, I have to say the game looks and sounds fabulous.  This, GT5, iRacing, and rF2 really show how far we’ve come – they’re looking a fantastic range of car sim/games – easily the best we have ever had.  Truly we are blessed, my little lambkins.

  • jpmjpm

Do we really need this talking to the media, press conference etc… ? It is a racing simulation, not a point and click adventure where we have to talk to people to solve puzzles.

  • F1Racer

No, you’re right.  I’m sure CM will take it out of the game now.

  • jpmjpm

Look, I just asked a question from the other gamers here. I’d like to hear their opinioa bout this.

And not addressed a demand to CM to remove it.

    You mistaken something dude.

  • F1lover

hmmm really tough one this.. I don;t think they will remove it guys.. as they are trying to have an “in the middle” type of sim.. meaning it will cater to the Console/Sim racer. a bit of both worlds.. I think wil will lean towards the COnsole gamer as this is the 3rd time in these vids they mentioned that the car set up for these will not be difficult.. although you can really get into the set up, you will arrive at race day with a good base to drive the car..
I For one am looking forward to the behind the scenes look at F1. Even if i do get board of it.. I am sure it will be fun to play with this feature..  I just hope they have fist fighting altercations ability.. as if I was Barrichello I would try and smack Schumy !!!!!

  • i am the law

I love Schumi, and I never criticised him before.  But that move on Rubens was outrageous.  Schumi admitted he made a mistake in last turn, and he just kept going right even when Rubens was alongside.   No need to kill him?

  • F1Racer

To answer you question (which wasn’t a question).  No there was no need to kill him which and he didn’t.  Also I’m sure he wasn’t even trying to.  These are race drivers not murderers.

  • swainy

yh but the dev diarys are never up to date so well see πŸ˜€

  • swainy

i dont get why the cars dont have the right steering wheels like the renult has a rounded steering wheel not the wheel shown in the game. and if you follow formula 1 then youll know what im on about πŸ™

  • swainy
  • swainy

below are two of my posts and i shall back those up by telling you to look at 1.50 in the dev diary and look at the video below πŸ™‚

  • F1Racer

    @jpmjpm

No, I know what you meant..er…dude.

Do we need it ?  No.
I might turn out to be an annoying feature as the caravan scenario is in DIRT2.  Then again it could invite a whole new aspect to F1 games.  Inject something new into it.    Of course it’s not needed, but people are going to give you differing opinions so I dunno how you’re going to get a specific answer to your question.

If this concept works well in the game then it will be an interesting novelty to combine along with the racing itself and it gives you more to do as an F1 driver than just race.  F1 drivers so have press conferences etc so they are just taking the simulation part a step up.
If it becomes an annoyance in the game and you can’t skip it and just get on with the racing, then it will become one of those sticking points that lets the game down.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see how for ourselves then judge it.  So you’ll have your own answer then.

  • David Wright

By standardising elements of the steering wheel they only needed to produce one set of animations for the driver adjusting the various knobs, rather than twelve.  You may not be happy with this but this is the reason.

  • i am the law

on Schumi, he has apparently sais “after I looked again at the situation with Rubens I have to say that the stewards were correct with their judgement.”

Schumi can admit he was wrong.  I love him all the more, unabashedly. =-X

  • i am the law

I feel sure MS would be very upset on reflection that his driving could be considered life-threatening: he was behind Senna when he went off for the last time, and he broke down in tears at the post-race drivers press thingy after he equalled/beat Senna’s record of race wins/poles whatever.  I imagine it will quite effect him, because I don’t think MS would ever try to kill someone on the racetrack in competition, and he came very close to it, in a way.

  • Uff

No, it’s a racing game and if you want to sell you also need some innovative ideas.

  • Uff

Just because you have to install a program? Man, don’t use a PC then if that’s too difficult for you…

  • mario

is been released in september 2010,or 24 of september 2010!!!hitch day is????
