F1 2010 – Details to Be Revealed on March 17th

Back in May 2008, Codemasters acquired the Formula One license, planning to release official Formula One games for gaming consoles and the PC on a yearly basis.

A year later, the company decided that their maiden title F1 2009 would only be released for the Nintendo Wii and the Playstation Portable, postponing the release of the first “proper” title to 2010.

Now, it seems like the time has come as Codemasters has announced to reveal F1 2010 for Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and the PC to the press on March 17th, just three days after the 2010 F1 season kicks off at Bahrain.

Until now, no details on the title have been revealed aside from a few laser-scanning track images that have been released last year, so stay tuned for more on F1 2010 in less than four week’s time.

at last! I still wonder if it’s possible to convert their tracks to rFactor! Let’s wait and see.

  • thorns

Nice, been looking forward to this one!
Lets hope they can do a good job on it. Would love for this to be the new “Grand Prix 5”

  • eddiespag

Great. But of course this means the 2009 season for the PC to be released in 2010… right? Because how can they develop and release a 2010 season before it has even run it’s course and ended. They need lots of development time so that they can ‘approximate’ the cars physics, looks and behaviours. Otherwise it will be just a ‘Fantasy F1 2010’… or I could be mistaken. What are your guys’ opinion on this?

  • felipe

you are definitely right on that! Besides physics data will take long to gather all teams will end the year very different from now so I expect the 2009 as well!

The Wii version is pathetic. As in late 90’s level of quality.

so its the Wii pretty much a GameCube with different design!

  • Magic-s

Bla Bla Bla. And then comes 2014 a Game with Cars from 2010 🙄

  • Diromo

    Ya! Q1, Q2, Q3! – here I come 😆

I hope codemasters will make different pit-stops animation for different situations like only refueling, or only front wing change or only tyre change (2010!) :shame:
2nd wish: I hope we can have different animations: for pit-stop and for parking in pits like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mhjr8A3o7p8#t=4m15s 🙂

According to CM, it’s going to be based on the 2010 season, not 2009.

Right. They said this even before F1 2009 was released. 😀

  • pleb

Although, they said that the screenshots that will be released soon will show the game but with the 2009 cars, but in the finished product it will be the 2010 cars.

  • sosman

    what ever!

FSONE for Rfactor is all you need! :sd:

  • ForzaBarca88

Its all about the laser scanned tracks, its pretty obvious from their press releases and comments that its not going to be full on sim.

It dosnt have to be souly aimed at ‘full on simers’ for it to be good, GC’s GP where very much solid sims but they also catered for those who just wanted to plug n play.

  • stabiz

No, and that means they only need pictures to make the game so it will be no problem to do the 2010 season. My prediction: Nice graphics, easy handling, flashy menus, modern attack-music blended with audio from real races and some pompous narrator telling you that you are taking on the world of F1 … and ARE YOU READY?

Not my cup of tea, but it will sell in buckets, and thats what its all about.

  • felipe

18 lazer scanned tracks converted for rFactor will give a major boost to our confidence :sd:

I’m not disputing whether it will be good, not being a hardcore sim doesnt automatically make a game bad. If we’re lucky they’ll go the same way as Shift and atleast attempt to make the driving physics realistic. That + laser scanned tracks would make for a great sim alone even disregarding all other aspects of the game. But I’ll use Shift as an example here again – no matter how good it is to drive and how nice the graphics are, at the end of the day its missing a lot of racing fundumentals like tire wear, pitstops, etc, that make me go back to our established sims like rfactor and NKP. I’m not saying Codies will leave those particular aspects out but its a good example of how target audience really defines the priority features of a mass market game such as this.

    +1 Stabiz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • zudthespud

They would be idiots if they allowed people to create their own content for it, people won’t buy the next one if people make the next years cars for the previous game.

  • creatorex

As per information I read both seasons will be in it; 2009 and 2010. But with the lot of changes from 2009 to 2010 let’s see what comes. We expect a game with a sim capability and arcade (by some aids). But It will be very inmersive ;-)… I hope :):O 🙂

  • scefen

Wait, will it be RELEASED the 17th of March or will they show PROGRESS?

I don’t know where you read that. On their official forums, CM employee’s have said it will be specifically based on the 2010 season.

I think that the guys behind rFactor are Idiots for not releasing new version every year, not like simbin, but where they are improving the “core simulation engine”, since the comunity is taking the effort of creating the “content”.

Who wants to buy a formula one game without Schumacher in it?

  • TheSTIG

As 99.99% of the human population can’t “really” be sure on what a F1 car feels like it doesn’t matter if the 2010 cars (in that game) are “realistic” or up-to-date with the real ones and if they will be up-to-date with the real series. All that matters is will they feel right like F1s and if they look like the ones you see on TV. And with laser scaned tracks and if the ballance between “full-on sim” and “arcade” modes is good (not like in SHIFT where PRO mode is just harder arcade), it is all the same to me(and it should be for most of us). My hopes are for a good sim mode + the great graphics, models and presentation most of codies games have. You have to agree that DIRT2 was a huge step forward by any means, and it is still promoted as an arcade game (witch it is). This has the potencial to be one really good game/sim if they do thing right, thing is if they know what is “right”. And one more thing – lets hope for a all platform release and not what we see these days – a deleyed, f…. up PC port with poor controls and limited settings (SHIFT again..). So CM it all dependns on you if you’ll get our ~50$ (like they relly care about our small comunity). And one more thing – you have to realise that everything in this world is made for profit and profit only, so before we – the sim racing fans start to make profit with buyig more or becoming more(that buy), no one will care what we think, so if anyting that can be called a sim shows up we have to glad that it did …

  • UncleChuckle

Codemasters make toys. The game will offer nothing to the sim community. (Basing this on a long line of extremely disappointing Codemasters “sims”.)

    correction,they make games,just what a gaming company should do…

if the game will play nice, and the graphic quality as good as grid and dirt,i’ll get it,for my simming needs i’ll stick to the stuff thats out there allready

expecting a sim from such a company is like thinking santa really does excist

I agree, I see a lot of people keenly anticipating this title and the usual “I wonder if it will it have sim physics” If you look at Codemasters track record and you won’t be disappointed when its relesed.

  • grimes

I don’t agree with that, Codemasters is very arcade last years but how you know what thay are doing with F1 2010 thay have to little details to say it wil be arcade….
And Codemasters already made good sims in the past, you remember Toca 2?

Some say Dirt 2 has good feadback, combine this with laser scanned tracks?
(i never played Dirt 2 but some say it has great feadback)

  • JAGUAR1977

It will be good to have a state of the art F1 sim/game, whatever you wish to call it.

I’m sick of relying on mods for the outdated rFactor, ISI really need to get a hurry on with the sequal, the whole PC sim scene is stagnating with the wait.

  • Gaiajohan

    Diromo: ge (2010!) :shame:
2nd wish: I hope we can have different animations: for pit-stop and for parking in pits like this one:

There won’t be refueling, as that’s forbidden in 2010.

I hope it will be such a game like Dirt 2. Good for beginners, but still it all feels nice. Since TOCA2 (BTCC one) I haven’t seen such a nice game from Codemasters, and if they can go on this way I believe F1 2010 might be enjoyable.

And actually I’m getting tired of the sim-moaning. Actually it’s more like we’re standing still, doing nothing. Only Simbin and iRacing have released nice sims. And the Simbin games are just adding content to an older game. I’m afraid simracing is kinda dead. It’s too expensive to make the game more realistic (laser scanning is kinda expensive), and overall they don’t sell that good. It’s very logical the devs are producing games instead of sims.
