Assetto Corsa – Lotus 98T Coming Up

Kunos Simulazioni has announced the release date and content of the next Assetto Corsa Early Access Beta update.

Kunos Simulazioni has announced the release date and content of the next Assetto Corsa Early Access Beta update.

To be released on July 18, the new update will add the famous Lotus 98T Formula One car to Assetto Corsa, adding the third historical Formula One carΒ alongside the Ferrari 312T and the Lotus 49.

The 98T was powered by a Renault EF15B V6 turbo engine, featuring pneumatic valve springs. Depending on boost pressure the EF15B was able to provide more than 1,000bhp in qualifying trim.

Along with the new car, the new version will also introduce new AI improvements as Assetto Corsa moves closer to Release Candidate status.

  • Roger Wallentin

Looking forward to this, it must really be a beast to tame!!

Hope they managed to get a similar feel to the 312T in how it moves around on the limit.

  • traind

This will be awesome, no doubt. It will be the third historical F1 car though… the Lotus 49 is in AC as well.

    • MontoyaVR

      Right! πŸ™‚

  • ftrracingtv

    can’t wait

  • F1Racer

So no more updates for 3 more weeks ?

    • Shaddix

i think no updates until 18.07.
Now is holiday time, so would be okay to relax after this stress^^

      • F1Racer

        Guess so πŸ™‚

      • lullilulli

        I can’t resist… Sorry πŸ˜€

        Holiday time? Relax? What?

        So…

-Assetto Corsa was planned to be released in the end of 2012, now it’s June 2014.

-the last announcement from Massarutto, was in March “Assetto Corsa to be released with the multiplayer in April!”…… Yeah sure

-since 23 May every update was just bug fixing, and for the 18 July there is any update for the multiplayer that is broken and absolutely dead (and the 1.0 isn’t released). Why doesn’t GamerMuscle review it?

-they announce an update for the graphics? What? I mean this is one of the thing already working, there are a lot of other thing to fix!

      • Professional Operator

        Gimmie gimmie gimmie gimmie gimmie.

      • lullilulli

yeah gimme what I payed for, or gimme a serius release date, is it so crazy?

      • GamingCanuck

They did give you what you paid for, an alpha version of a game.

      • Me

You want gimmie gimmie? Hope you’re a part of pCars. Substantial updates every day of the week!
        Sometimes 1 gig+ daily.
Makes the other sims update pace look like a herd of turtles!

      • Deatroy

Some Friends still tell me that they change 1gb of data, but you dont feel it sometimes.
Then you wonder what they changed.
Other Games changes a only a few mb, still you see/feel the difference.
But as i dont own pCars, i can only say what i hearing my from my friends.

      • gianluca p

Tell your friends that they have to read the release notes that come with every new build to know what this introduces and that they have to delete the CARS folder and restart the pc before playing a new build if they want to “feel” what has changed.

      • Professional Operator

You paid 25 bucks with the steam sales or 40 bucks. You had enough content for the money you paid, and you have been warned you purchased a WIP evolving product.

      • 5hitm4k3r666

Not gimmie, gimmie, gimmie. He is right to an extent. Kunos promised updates every two weeks, a promise that they can’t hold to. It was all fine when they could ship in their content piece by piece, content that they were holding back. But that actually works only as long as you have content as bug fixes alone will not please everyone over a long time, especialy if something gets broken.

Was a bit naive to believe all this marketing stuff. Kunos is a small dev team so people should better stay realistic with their expectations and don’t expect any magic. All next gen sims are in development since ages so one or two more years won’t hurt anybody.

      • melanieuk1

Why cry, it’s not like you can’t own a copy of assetto corsa right now, who care if it’s not 1.0 you can still play it right?
No one complained when rfactor2 stalled the play (delay) for years.
iracing just announced new features to their sim, features that are already in rfactor 2, yet no one is complaing, lets all rage on kunos for been the best developer right now.

      • lullilulli

        You’re forgetting just a couple of things;
rF2 and iR never promised things, if you look their website you know exactly what you pay for; features wip are listed in the forum in a unofficial way. If you look the AC website you can understand you pay for a lot of promises. When something goes wrong they just remove a promise ie: “to be released in 2013”. LOL
You maybe can remember the iR 2.0 saga, yeah that was a bad move, but… DK himself wrote his apologies on the forum. Kunos never wrote apologies, they are always right and the people complaining are always wrong.
You can also remember the Lotus 49-preorder story, people get refunded and got the car for free when the release was delayed.
So yeah is a trend to rage on Kunos. πŸ˜€

      • Michael Hornbuckle

        Quote “iR never promised things”
Funniest thing I have read this month.

      • melanieuk1

ISI promised rain, which doesn’t work in rfactor2, the rain still falls inside the car cockpit, and looks bland, some of the cars what was shown still isn’t available and that goes for some of the tracks, the driver animation is a joke, Freddy Kruger driver arms, plus the rear view with the headless driver floating on the track is just a no no for a products that been released for nearly 3 years, need I say more on how night driving is, it’s not convincing at all, oh and still using old tech from 2001 dx9 πŸ™‚

      • 5hitm4k3r666

Why can’t people get over it, that there are strong and weak points in every product?

That said, alot of your points are simply wrong and misinformed.

      • Andrea Candini

When you look at AC’s website you don’t get a lot of promises, you
get an exact list of what you will get in 1.0. It’s up to you to
understand that if a game is in Early Access state, than it’s very
likely that not all of those features will be immediately available.
They claimed we would have received an update every 2 weeks and that’s exactly what we got with the exception of:
        – Christmas holidays (guess what, even developers have holidays sometimes)
        – multiplayer release (they could have been more clear about that)
        – now (part of the team is at the Ring)
This means 14 updates on time, 2 (or 3, if you can’t stand that they had an holiday on Christmas) out of time.
        You can check yourself: http://steamcommunity.com/games/assettocorsa/announcements/

        They’re
more than aware that the game needs improvements in many area, that’s
why they announced a new audio engine, improvements on AI and updates on
multiplayer (which had to be released with a previous update, but the
        team wasn’t satisfied yet).
So, is it really a problem waiting a bit
more to get a better product? The game is already enjoyable in its
current state; it definitely needs improvements, but the team knows it
        probably even better than us.

Don’t you think that if they announce improvements on graphic too it’s because different people work on different things?

      • Roger Wallentin

I am very happy with what we have so far, I am also happy that there are constant update on a weekly/monthly basis.

I think sounds are OK now but really looking forward to the new sound engine!

Sure there are improvements to be made but its VERY drivable and enjoyable even in “hot lap” mode. There are also plenty of challenges which are very challengine to beat on the hardest level to keep me entertained while waiting for perfect AI and MP.

      • GamingCanuck

AC has already progressed farther than nKp, so what if it takes them a little longer to get releases out? There’s so many other sims out right now if waiting one extra week is the deal breaker for you, you must live a very closeted life. It’s funny how you complain about them releasing bug fixes instead of releasing content and them taking a break for a week, it seems like you’re just trolling to be honest.

      • Shaddix

im aware they cant hold most dates and i critized in the official forum a lot too. But the devs deserves also some holiday time, so its not something like i agree with everything.
Also bugfixing is the most important thing in the ea phase. Look at physic or launcher fixes, they are important to me πŸ˜‰

      • Michael Hornbuckle

Quote “Prepare your self to play with an hot lap simulator with static conditions for a long long time, because it smells like NkPro all over again.”

Stupidest thing I have read in quite some time. Especially considering that you can race MP right now.

      • lullilulli

NkPro had MP from beginning, so what is your point?

  • Pure Citrus

Apparently they’re having trouble getting the AI to keep the line with all that power, which means I’ll be going into the wall a lot. Can’t wait!

  • Cristianfx

the lotus should be added with damage models… what is the point of driving this monster without fear?

    • melanieuk1

      Soon (TM)

  • Justin Cruze

Kunos did an amazing job with the 312T, definitely looking forward to AC’s interpretation of this.

Although based on my experiences with other sim versions of this car, I suspect that I’ll fail miserably at actually driving it properly πŸ™‚
How anyone actually managed to drive this thing around a wet track boggles the mind

  • Wilsch

The third historical F1 car i will crash at the nurburgring…;)

  • Marcel

Looks like they are heading to the Nurburgring Nordschleife this weekend

    • speed1

They should better check the weather. We actually have a s..tty and rainy weather here around the G.Hell. Otherwise i would like to visit and meet the guys on the G.Hell. πŸ™‚

That actually won’t be a good holiday trip. Perhaps they like to visit the RaceRoom there where the employees even don’t now who their bosses are and didn’t know what SimBin is as i’ve asked two nice guys in the past. πŸ™‚

However, good to know another intresting car is coming.

      • Marcel

Then they can experience the typical wheather there ;-). If they did a meet up with some fans i would come and visit them because i have “only” 180km to the NΓΌrburgring

      • speed1

Yeah, me would have just ~50km to ride. If i would risk my driving licence i would reach the G.Hell in ~30min. πŸ™‚

    • Deatroy

They have the scan data already and Siv in working on Nordschleife.
So why should they go to Nordschleife?

      • Marcel

They posted some pictures of their BMW in Facebook, packed with some stuff and write “Behind the scenes – Assetto Corsa VS the Green Hell: our journey started.”

      • Deatroy

ty for answering, i was wondering because Siv3 said he has already the data and worked on it already^^

      • Michael Hornbuckle

I would imagine it is a data gathering trip…judging by the pics that have been posted it would appear that they had the Ring to themselves today…Aris said that he would explain more later this week

  • melanieuk1

For those raging on about where is 1.0

    Hello AC followers,

gradually we are getting closer to the release candidate version of
Assetto Corsa: the next update should already include some changes to
the graphics engine that will allow us to test the overall
compatibility, although you might not see any new effects until the new
algorithms will prove to be stable. More details will follow soon.

The next update of Assetto Corsa Early Access
is scheduled for 18th July and it should include the long awaited Lotus
98T. As already known, Assetto Corsa AI, utilizes the same physics
model used by the player. With more than 1000 horse power and tons of
downforce produced by this amazing grand prix car, the AI finds it very
challenging keeping a proper racing line. The reasons will be clear to
you too, when you will try staying on track while driving this
unbelievably fast and β€œraw” racing car. We are working to improve AI
interactions and hopefully we’ll be able to include the Lotus 98T in
next update and include AI enhancements to the sim.

    A big
“thank you” to all those people who join the Early Access program every
day. You help us to constantly improve Assetto Corsa : Your support is
amazing and we really want to thank you, so we are investing in new
content, new licenses and even more importantly, new people, hiring
developers able to cover strategic positions in our company that will
allow us KUNOS Simulazioni and Assetto Corsa, grow stronger and more
    efficient and capable.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/OldAgedGamer Steve Bird

What happened to updates every fortnight? Did they realise that it was a big “ask” to be able to pump out significant updates every two weeks or have they kept to their promise (generally)?

      • Michael Hornbuckle

The only update they have ‘missed’ since release was for the Christmas/New Years holidays…They are about to miss another one because half the team is currently at Nurburgring gathering data….

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/OldAgedGamer Steve Bird

        Thanks for the reply πŸ™‚

  • Deatroy

For me the graphic update and netcode/mp update will be the most important thing.

In these 2 parts AC need to be improved for V1.0.

    • Marcel

Graphics are really good at this moment, for me it’s missing a lot of features and the AI is really bad and frustrating ins some cars.

      • Deatroy

Just look at the trees as example. AC can be better in that parts.
As already said, some features are after V1.0 like pitstops, weather.
I play 100% online, that is ok.

      • melanieuk1

Can’t wait for them to add rain, even though I will never race in rain, found a netkar Pro video with rain, and to me, it looks better than rain in other last gen sims, so imagine how rain will look in assetto corsa, I’m sure rain will not be falling inside the cars.

  • wajdi nujeidat

Is AC a playable game in this stage?
The AI is broken and you can’t even make a decent offline race. The collision is broken, the AI is worst than GT6.
The MP is broken with lag every where, collision physics broken and even input lag .
They are continuing to promise and announce this and that car, but the game is far from being playable.

    • Ark|Hiver

In my opinion, AI in AC is decent enough. I just raced them at 98% strength at Imola in the McLaren MP4-12 GT3. They’re aware of your line (GT6 AI is not) and can race side by side with you (GT6 AI can’t). They can go 3 wide into tight corners without wrecking you (GT6 AI does not go 3 wide). They’ll race you for their position (GT6 AI is just a moving obstacle and not aware of you at all).
So you’re telling me that AC AI is worse than GT6 AI? You can’t be serious.
As for the MP: Yeah it’s not in the state it should be right now. You need a very good connection, otherwise the cars start warping..
In the end, AC is in a good state. Modding is coming alone nicely. The physics are great. The AI is above average. The default car and track selection is decent. I’m not sure where your criticism is coming from.

      • wajdi nujeidat

Ai of AC is far from being good. I can even star last in any race and be in the first place after 3 laps. ” they are ware about your line”? I have to restart the race 4 or 5 times, because they don’t even see you.
However, I don’t care about offline, but the MP net code needs a lot of work.
Ps: it is really ridiculous that a sim like AC hasn’t yet the braking distribution option in the car setup even in the gt cars and what about the clutch feature?! When, when and when?!

      • Marcel

Online racing is really smooth if the ping is under 100ms, me and my friends have no problems with that. You are right with the AI, it’s really dump and sometimes unpredictable. You can change brake distribution in the setup, but not while driving i think. The buttons are there to configure but doesn’t work :-(. The clutch works, but should be better to configure and in some cars with H-shifter you can shift without the clutch if you lift the gas what is stupid. But overall it’s very fun to drive online with people you know and trust and it’s far away from a broken game even though it is missing some features and have some bugs…. You have to remember that it is still in early access and very cheap to buy. For all that it’s absolutely great and i loved it all the 200 hours i played so far.

      • melanieuk1

Don’t forget ai’s are a first for Kunos, you can’t expect miracles over night, it’s not like they have been doing ai’s for years like Simbin or ISI.

    • Pascal

I had few 20 laps races in League and MP is good. I think you have broken game.

    • Michael Hornbuckle

Then how do I have 500 hours playing it?

      • 5hitm4k3r666

Maybe you are more resistant to frustration? What is good for you, can be bad for someone else.

      • Deatroy

the never ending discussion is started.
        rF2 is finished, AC not.

      • melanieuk1

I don’t think rFactor 2 is finished, it’s a on going project, just like assetto corsa, the difference is rFactor 2 has been on sale for 2 years maybe more, but it’s been on sale and in development longer than assetto corsa, which has only been available for all since November 2013.

      • Deatroy

Yea but they released like a Version 1.0 or i am wrong ?

      • melanieuk1

I don’t know how their version number system goes, as I don’t own a copy of rfactor2 yet, I’ve not downloaded the latest demo as well so I cant say.

      • 5hitm4k3r666

You have build numbers as in Project Cars. But it doesn’t say that much to be honest. You can’t say how much has been changed based on build numbers or the time between two public builds. But this is only for the core engine updates. Content gets delivered and updated seperate.

      • 5hitm4k3r666

It is the same as with any other sim. It is constantly evolving and you get updates on a reasonable pace considering the size of the dev team and the budget.

iRacing does it the same way, PC, AC, R3E and even GSC. You get updates on the content side aswell as on the code and engine side.

That said, it’s been some time since we saw the first screens of the Lotus 98T (2011/2012). So please stay fair when you make comparisons or even mention the speed of development.

      • Deatroy

thats why i said its never ending discussion.
Some will love rF2, some love AC, some iR.
For Simracers good years come as all games will evolve more and more.
        Wont start a war here.
Every sim which is quite new isnt perfect^^

    • melanieuk1

Multiplayer would be laggy for you, been as you live in Israel, try joining a server closer to you, not a server located in Europe or America πŸ™‚

      • wajdi nujeidat

With iR and rf2 I don’t have lag at all. I’m doing an endurance league with rf2, 4h of race with driver swap and 25 teams from Spain, USA, Australia……and we have ZERO lag.

      • melanieuk1

Maybe so, but where are theses servers located, that you are connecting to or are you just nitpicking and moaning for the sake of moaning, when you select multiplayer in assetto corsa, you get a warning message that multiplayer is ‘Alpha’, I’ve had no lag joining European servers, as I live in the UK, there is no need for me to stress myself out by joining any server located outside of the Eurozone, there are no servers located in Israel so join one closer to you.

      • Michael Hornbuckle

In iracing you might think you have no lag but I bet you are blinking like a Christmas tree to everybody else in the server.

    • Deatroy

      hey wajdi,
we know rF2 is the god for you and AC is the worst Sim. Move on and never comment here again πŸ™‚

      • wajdi nujeidat

Here is Ramadan and I want to be a good guy in this holy month!

had an AC multiplayer sesh yesterday evening, jumped in, 4 different cars, different tracks, quick 5-7 lap races with 10mins quali, random servers – ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. I could not ask for more from a sim game.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4voYXCsRco

    • Jos

cool momo, where did you get it?

      • pastor_tedhaggard

made it. Bought the wheel from a motorsports catalogue. Got the quick release mechanism off JZ Simulaje. SLI Pro and buttons/switches from the Bodnar site. Then I paid 70 quid and a simracing hardware company here in UK put it all together (cant remember the name).
its still using the g25 paddle shifts, which are unsatisfying.
