Zandvoort 2010 Masters Edition – First Previews

After releasing his majorly-overhauled version of Le Mans 2004, Riches has picked up the work on another track, aiming to bring Zandvoort to rFactor & Race On.

Made with over 1000 photographs and aerial photos, the scratch-made track will feature microbumps, custom-modelled trackside objects and high-resolution textures aiming to match the graphical quality of the iRacing version. The track is being made to replicate its looks during the 2010 Zandvoort Masters weekend, Riches expects the download to be available in a few months. Until then, check out the impressive previews below!

Opened in 1948, Circuit Park Zandvoort has hosted 30 editions of the Dutch Formula One Grand Prix, today’s layout is 4.18 kilometers long and consists of 11 turns.

Located in the near-beach dunes, the track is notorious for sand being blown on track. The layout is made up of slow and quick corners as well as many elevation changes that make Zandvoort a rather tricky place to drive. Even though Formula One is long gone, the track still hosts many major events, including DTM & WTCC touring car racing as well as an annual A1GP event.

stunning previews, looks to be a great track!

  • sosman

    looking awesome!

  • Carbonfibre

Holy crap! Better start paying attention to Mr. Riches, he’s hit the ground running with track design! :-D  Extremely happy, polygon bumps is the way to do it.

  • Riches

Well… i don’t know if i build another track soon after i finished this project.
My wife is expecting a baby in 4 months.
So i guess i will have a lot less spare time next year.
Thanks for nice comments, i needed that.  8-)

  • Frikadelli Racing

    Please explain “microbumps”?!

  • Riches

Most tracks we drive  the road surface is as flat as a pooltable, forcefeedback road vibration and rumble is done by sinewaves bumps send to your steeringwheel.
These standard canned artificial effects make the feeling of the road and the behaviour of the car much more sterile. As the effect are send at a constant frequency.
This track contains thousands of real microscopic bumps, so the speed at witch you are driving them effects the feedback to the driver and the car, just like in real life.
Although this needes a much higher polygon count, that’s no problem for most modern PC’s.

  • felipe

very impressive! one of the best tracks preview I’ve ever seen :)

how can I contact you? I haven’t found your website/mail nor a way to send a PM here.

that ain´t funny! every sim is out there for an specific audience and I bet you many people wished they could “lease” iRacing!

  • Jack_NL

    Wauw  looking very good!

    and Microbumps  what a novelty!
impressed by what you explained what they do

  • Jack_NL

    a whole new experience

As more and more tracks become available for iRacing modders of other sims will benefit a lot from it. They will be able to better recreate bumps width and many other aspects for a track. And I do NOT see this affecting iRacing memberships iRacing succeeding even the haters will benefit greatly from it!

Looking forward for Sebring by Virtua_LM as I see this one the the early tracks to take advantage of a straight forward comparison. Also I wish if possible to run the alfa or so version as a current iRacing and rFactor racer :)

There are members of the team who are iracing subscribers so if we want to compare the two courses we will.

Personally, I see no value in a comparison because we are not trying to make our course look like iracing’s version.  We are trying to make our version look like the real thing.

  • felipe

that´s great to know and we all know iRacing tracks are all laser scanned and recreating bumps at the right places would add a lot to the experience  ;)

  • Riches

Offcourse i have iRacing account, it gives great inside on the angle of corners and elevation.
As well as where the more noticable bumps and ditches are on the track

  • felipe

Awesome Riches! What seemed great can turn out supreme :)

  • DeDios

Looks stunning. Really well done Riches :-D

  • fulapo

This must be a joke.. “trying to make our version look the real thing” LOL

  • Ash McConnell

    Wow, looks fantastic!  Congrats Riches!
