World Super GT 2 – Two New Onboard Videos

Arnold Wong has released two new preview videos of Team RMT’s World Super GT 2 mod for rFactor 2, showing us a lap in the Renault Megane Trophy car at Brno and the Honda NSX at Suzuka.

Powered Renault Sport Technologies, the Megane Trophy is a spec series using tubeframe race cars powered by a 3.5 liter V6 engine that puts out 360hp. The cars weigh little over 1000 kilos and feature advanced racing technologies such as a paddle-shifting system, double wishbone suspension and adjustable dampers.

Successor to World Super GT for GTR 2, World Super GT 2 will bring some of of the most legendary GT cars of the 90s as well as Super GT GT500 class machinery to rFactor 2. Aside from being included in the team’s World Super GT 2 mod for rFactor 2, the Renault Megane Trophy is also planned to be released as standalone mod for rFactor.

Cockpits look superb, handling will hopefully be just as good.
Only the window texture makes the tracks look very grey.
    Hopefully that will be resolved.

  • BSR-WiX

How and wat we do with the windows will be highly affected by the rFactor 2 engine. so we do not worry about that at this point. For the Megane, who will be released in rF1, the windows are not yet revised. ‘ as you might notice there are no inner banners on the car yet.

  • dknine

    looks great ingame aswell 8-)

  • Hompe

    Great to hear!

  • eracer

no idea why that posted three times..!

  • Rasmus

About the NSX, well, I’m not an expert, but I’m pretty sure that in-car self-shadowing has been confirmed for rFactor 2, and then this probably wouldn’t be an issue at all. The lighting in rF2 will probably be a lot different from what you see here.

But when it comes to the Megane, I agree with you.

  • Rasmus

Looking great overall – and those sounds, oh my god. Sexy!

  • BSR-WiX

Very nice comments , people , appreciated. On the other hand , i would not take to much notice on details like that . Its not really the issiue in this stage. Reflections are just thereto give ourselves a bit of 3d feel . Shadowing , highlighting , and color calibration is all done in the very last stage.

  • JGoenR

    Looks great!

  • David Wright

Just a tip for the movie maker – don’t spoil such beautiful cockpits with any HUDs.

  • Cunning Stunt 8

Really looking forward to this mod. Just one question: I know that sounds are still at a reasonably early stage, but will there be so much tyre scrubbing sound in the final release? I’ve never seen an on-board from a real race car where you can hear the tyres scrubbing. And part of the reason I don’t play GTR Evo much is because I find the tyre scrubbing noise really annoying.

Keep up the good work, you guys are geniuinely better than most professionals

  • Arnold-Carter Kingpong Wong

The effect sounds are from WSGT1 and are just place holders at the moment, so no worries.

  • Rhys Gardiner

    That NSX sounds brutal… :D

  • Pabig93

Why no full release for rF1?? There are many people who won’t be abler to get rF2 (not me) and also want to drive those mods

  • Arnold-Carter Kingpong Wong

rF1 will be forgotten by the community when the whole mod is done. That’s the reason.

  • Pabig93

I don’T think so, people said GTR2 will be dead after the GTR Evo release and still there are new Mods for GTR2, same with GP4 and F1C, rF1 will live a looong life

  • jimmy

GTR Evo is not a direct sequel of GTR2, these games can coexist but rF2 will be basically just overhauled rF1. I see no reason to play rF1 when we’ll have rF2. GP4 is totally different series and F1C still lives? I don’t think so… Why would you not be able to get rF2 anyway? I think it will be neither expensive nor some extremely HW demanding…

  • jimmy

Very nice previews but there is one little problem… you did 2:03.4 in Brno but this year’s pole position time was 2:03.6 and your lap was not the cleanest ever… so I suppose that physics is just in early stages of development so far… Otherwise stunning modeling as always!!!

  • BSR-WiX

actually, you surprise me with something i did not even think about.  If the physics and environment of a simulated situation could actually be exactly the same as a real world experience (and the can not be) , then you would think that in a simulation you would be a little faster, because of the lack of fear and consideration of consequences of your driving decisions.
So a faster lap then real live would be pretty much what you would expect if the physics where ok.

  • BSR-WiX

Bringing the sim to rF1 and rF2 does mean allot more work then choosing one platform . rF1 and rF2 will not just be a matter of straightforward conversion. so if a choice should be made, rF2 would be the most realistic choice , dont you think?

  • Arnold-Carter Kingpong Wong

actually I did 2:02.8, but during the lap recorded, FRAPS lagged while dividing the AVI file. It does make sense to be a bit faster than in the real world, I guess.

  • JV

Hum, Looks like poor physics.. but anyway this could be change easily ! ( But not by all)

    Thanks for the 3D anyway.

PS: Next time before post video, look a real cam on board. Thanks.

PS2: Do you made the mod to be use with a pad or keyboard?

  • JV

In real life, you go faster than the car can, no talk about fear or everything, the physics is poor, don’t try to explain the opposite with poor argument. ;)

  • jimmy

OK, you’re probably right. On the other hand I would expect rather slower times in simulation than in reality where you have car with professional setup and (semi)professional driver. Plus I don’t think that race drivers are slowed by fear. They push as hard as possible  :) .

  • Carbonfibre

PS3: Were you born with or without a brain?

  • BSR-WiX

JV.  lol…   remind me next time to ask you first, before we post anything. i am sure you will be a big benefit…..
Better still, send me a physics set you made .. then we can do a video with it , post it here and have a little constructive discussion about it .   deal ?   :)

PS:  Looking at a cockpit video will not tell you much about the physics i beleive.

  • BSR-WiX

Yep , very intelligent argument, going faster then a car can … last time i have seen that was in ” Back to the future” i believe.  but hey , No Delorean planned for the WSGT2.

Seriously…  i know i should not react to this sort of comments, but they keep working on my nerves. What a waste of good comment space.

  • Cunning Stunt 8

Coolies. Can’t wait to drive the NSX at Sugo. Oh wait but it’ll be rF2. Actually that’s a point how is progress on Zolder going?

  • Uff

I reported JV comments too, but honestly I don’t know how the new moderation system works. It doesn’t seem to have any effects against trolls.

  • Arnold-Carter Kingpong Wong

We put the track aside at the moment, better to finish the cars first, then the track.

  • LensFlare

JV, I suppose it’s Julien Vidot, from enduracers or gentlemen racers lol
They’re known to be complete asses when it comes to other people’s mods.

  • shum94

If this are the final physics then i’m worried. Right now it’s not JGTC physics.
The approach of T1 is more F1 like right now.

  • Empty

Yea, something with what we have seen with the NSX is odd. Look at the way he takes the Casio Triangle.

Must have a very understeery setup or something not to get heaps of wheelspin with that rediculous turn in technique.

  • Dale

Since it is already being made in rfactor 1 then it will be converted anyway right?

  • BSR-WiX

The physics are still in a beta phase. we could change just about everything on them. Then there is the fact that it will only become important when rF2 is finally available to us.
Physics are always going to be bad for some, good for others. The problem usually is that there is no real good feedback for physics when testing. Plus , there is virtually nobody in the mod scene that actually has experience the cars at own hand. so it will always be a compromise. Further more , people should have to be able to actually race them, not just keep them on the track.

Then there is of course the endless bitching that will always occur, however good, or bad we do the physics. Whenever a mod team is starting a mod, there will always be people who get that instant ” i hate you” feeling. Usually its a weird form of flattery, because i notice that the better the mod starts to look , the worse my hate mail gets   :)    think about it.  there almost has not been a single post on here, or on other forums that did not have the ” you suck” , or ” this is crap ” reply. when thinking that modding is a free art, and that nobody would be obligated to try any mod when not to his liking, the majority of the hate mails says more about the mailer , then the mod in progress.  Then the second thing that i always wonder about is the fact that allot of people seem to have all the knowledge of car handling and physics concerning highly exclusive super cars and works machines. Weird , dont you think?  We sure dont know how all the cars handle, not even when we would watch a million video´s. yet, one out of 50 simracers seem to know it all.
In the end of the day, we will try to come up with a good compromise between realisme and sim race fun. Those who like it will be rewarded. those who dont like it can stay away from it, or fill multiple forums with there expertise on the matter. However it will go , i leave you all with this.  since 4 years ago, we have been trying to find a person who could join us doing physics.  and you guessed it …  nobody ever stept up and said ” i will do them and they will be great”   :)

A while ago i had a little talk with Niels Heusink. The best tip he gave us , was ” Whatever you do, there will always be people who hate it ”  So i guess we, aswell as the RMT haters , will have to live with it.

That said, thanks for all the nice words, and the ocasional interesting constructive critisisme.

  • JV

Don’t worry, if your car is good, I will put inside good physics like I did on all public mod for rF.

If one day you want real good physics for your mod, don’t worry, wait just a week after the release. ;)

  • Arnold-Carter Kingpong Wong

Any 3rd-party patches and modifications for our mods are strictly forbidden.

  • BSR-WiX

lol..  does the word Narcissism sound familiar to you .  You must be one of the inventors of it JV

  • Carbonfibre

If you’re not Niels then I don’t believe you for a second. Either way you’re talking like a pompous git.

  • JV

No problem, you will see. ;)

  • Empty

    lol

So, seeing how I have some tweaked physics to make the FXX not weave like a drunk scotsman your going to come and do what about it?

Embrace, don’t hate. All that talking like you guys – and several other mod teams – do just perpetuates the cycle.

Sure do miss the days were crediting someone was all you had to worry about. Never gonna see those again.

  • Cunning Stunt 8

    Sounds sensible.

  • viperX

That is a ridiculous statement but what else do we expect from Mr Wong.

Yes we know the physics are beta but it is damn funny watching Arnold sawing at the wheel like a lumberjack.

  • shum94

    J V for Julien Vidot
Endurance team member in physic department.

  • shum94

Compromise can satisfy everyone or nobody.
rFactor 2 is a simulation. The public aim for simulation not compromise (GTR 2).

It would be sad that this mod would be the benchmark for rF 2 only. Just to run the last PC to check if it can full hd + last on the grid & rain > 60 fps.

Endurance Mod approach of physics is the right way imo.
