World Rally Championship – Developer Interview Video

Following the first preview screenshot released earlier this week, Black Bean Games has released a first video of their official World Rally Championship title.

The video does not contain any gameplay scenes but interviews with the developers at Milestone, showing us how their stage-creation process works.

World Rally Championship will be bringing all the action of the WRC to the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and the PC. The game will feature all 13 rally events from the 2010 schedule and extensive online features as players will be able to compete against the real WRC stars thanks to iOpener’s GPS technology. World Rally Championship is planned to be released in September 2010.

    looks promissing :ooo:

I am interested in this, but i’m waiting to see some gameplay before I make any judgement.

    A note to all developers,

Gameplay speaks louder than developers speaking random stuff and posting bullshotted screenshots

I´m sure we will see the gameplay when the time has come.

If you want to sell a game, you need to create hype too. You can’t show everything since the beginnig. It’s quite a simple rule that everybody should know, nowadays. Videogames’ world works like this.

A note to all people posting random crap on the internet:

I’m sure game developers and publishers know better than you how to make and publish a successful game.

A note to all casual gaming apologists posting on simulation blogs:

I don’t care that the developers are great guys, had good intentions, wanted to reach the broadest audience, or were terrorized by their publisher. None of that matters to me. Is it a simulation or is it a stylized depiction of a compromised abstraction of the real thing?

  • Sensekhmet

Oh no, another talk about ‘philosophy’ and ‘inspiration’. How about talking about tire-gravel interaction instead?

  • FooAtari

    People still like WRC?

It turned into a bit of a mickey mouse joke of a sport about 8 years ago.

  • Austin Powers

Its never good is it? If there is nothing to comment on the developers, then lets piss on the series.

I don’t mind reading negative comments when they are motivated. But event that seems to be too much to ask.

Why is it Mickey Mouse joke of a sport? Can’t really say that Loeb, Raikkonen, Hirvonen, Block and all those other big names on the entry list this year are comic book characters?

  • FooAtari

No the drivers are decent enough (apart from Block, he will get his ass handed to him on the world stage). But the events themselves are a joke. Stages are now really sshort, they are not very many individual stages (most being used two or even three times), night stages are practically non-existent and the cars are not as exciting to watch or sound as good as they used to. There is a total lack of manufacturer interest and it’s fan base is shrinking by the year

Since the late 90′s WRC has spiraled into a small shadow of it’s former self. Simply put, it’s crap

  • http://www.virtualr.net Montoya

There’s a very good rally championship out there though, it’s called IRC

  • Harpo245

FooAtari: night stages are practically non-existent and the cars are not as exciting to watch or sound as good as they used to.

There are plenty of night stages in Rally Monte-Carlo (on ice and snow, pretty scary). Have you ever been to a rally? The cars are loud, you can hear them from a mile away and they are as quick as any other rally car.

Regarding the game we need to give them time. I know the developer has a bad name, but it’s hardly fair slamming down the game just because they released one (yes, one) concept art shot.

Now, enough of this “rally isn’t what it used to be” and an assortment of other off-topic subjects and back to the purpose of the article!

  • FooAtari

Agreed Montya, the IRC is OK.

Yeah Harpo, been to plenty rallies. But I’m comparing things to the 80′s and 90′s when the cars were much louder and a whole lot more sideways.

The speed might be there, but the spectacle isn’t.

Ok, back to the article. I fully expect this title to be much like Dirt. But will wait and see what they come with. But I’m pretty confidant it will be no Richard Burns Rally.
