World Racing Series – New Simulation Available

From PiBoSo, creator of the GPBikes simulation, comes a new simulation title as World Racing Series is now available for download and purchase.

The alpha demo version contains an open-wheel race car and the Lime Rock track, it can be downloaded for free below. A paid version is also available, extending the sim’s content to a FWD touring car and a second track – Laguna Seca. The simulation supports both online racing and modding, looking very solid already despite being in alpha state.

If you´re already a customer of GPBikes, the full version of World Racing Series is free for you. Likewise, buying a World Racing Series license will also give you access to GPBikes. Below is a video courtesy of VirtualR reader Uff, showing two laps around Lime Rock both in dry and wet conditions.

why this game is so nascar2003′ish, the config menus, the replay menus and even the graphics a bit.
is it based on it in anyway?

  • http://racingrenders.com F1Racer

wow it looks like it has great potential. Gonna try this out.

Moddable! A challenge to both rFactor and iRacing. Competition is good.

Arghhhh…when i click on the shortcut to run the game my computer reboot. Tried three times…. uninstalled.

  • moppenheimer

Is it me or is that version limerock look awfully familiar?

  • Howie47

Beautiful, Some one knows what they are doing. On Windows XP 64 bit. Dual monitors in span. Worked great. We definitely need to keep an eye on this.
I didn’t test the car much. But first impression was very good. Need to make some Steering Profile changes before bigger test. But as I said first impression is “WOW!”.

That’s interesting indeed. It doesn’t look very new gen, but visually better than rF.

  • Panchito

Just tried and enjoyed a lot! I like very much

I’ll buy the game when it becomes Beta, for sure.

Best of luck to Giorgio, great to see another dedicated one-man-team bringing something new to our hobby.

This was a bit of a surprise. So much so I registered in order to comment. :-)

My first few laps (ignoring the first few I did sideways & backwards, with soft compound tyres on a wet track) were ok, but uninspiring. Then I realised I wasn’t going fast enough to stress the car. When I put my foot down and got a little closer to the edges of the car’s envelope I found myself having rather a lot of fun! The slides were reassuringly ‘catchable’, reminding me of iRacing’s Skip Barber.

Now, I’m a huge fan of iRacing’s ‘feel’ (even if I don’t particularly care for the service wrapped around it) and I wouldn’t say the overall feel of WRS was going to challenge iRacing’s position on the top of the feel-heap at this stage. But it’s certainly much more immediately satisfying — to me anyway — than NKPro, which I’ve never quite managed to feel comfortable in for some reason. I probably just haven’t spent enough time in NKPro’s cockpits, but after only ten minutes in WRS my enthusiasm was firmly engaged… though part of that might have been down to the fact I already know the track backwards thanks to time spent inside the iRacing fence.

Anyway, this is a very interesting project. My only worry is that with so many great projects around at the moment it’ll be very hard for WRS to find a decent audience.

Good luck though. I think I’m going to have to buy this just to support a promising project.

    Thanks!

    Comparing FFord with F1?

    Comparing FFord with F1?

For me the feeling of weight transfer when going over the hill at Lime Rock, or when decelerating hard or getting into oversteer situations just feels ‘right’ (via the FFB on my G25) in the same way that iRacing manages to feel right under similar circumstances. So to that extent it’s certainly in the same league as iRacing… for me anyway. That immediately grabs my attention.

Obviously there’s a lot more to iRacing than the feel of the virtual driving experience, but most of us care about the sense of driving a ‘real’ vehicle first, and the rest of the sim experience afterwards. If the core experience is wrong the rest of it really doesn’t matter at all. And in iRacing’s case, if the core experience is good enough (and it is) you can kind of turn a blind eye to the restrictive way that code is delivered to us. For a while anyway. :-)

This isn’t about iRacing though, so I mustn’t go on about it. But life’s short, there are only so many simming hours in a week, and sorting the wheat from the chaff is important, so comparisons are always valid. And based on my first impressions with WRS, there is a distinctly wheaty flavour to the experience. It may turn out to be Monsanto, genetically mutated wheat for all I know. But first impressions are good. IMO anyway.

PS I have all the aids turned off. Obviously that changes the experience somewhat.

  • Zenitchik

    This is very cool!

    My opinion:
Compared to GTR Evo and rFactor, I thinks it’s a winner!
IRacing, netKar and LFS, its hard to say :S, IRacing has the best graphics though

There are so many nice minor features to this demo, that IRacing currently dosen’t have.

What is a good lap time in this formula car?

    The best I could manage:
    52.608 18.687 16.878 17.042 213.5 km/h

  • Andrew McP

What is a good lap time in this formula car?

Well, I very nearly made it into the 51′s. If my extensive experience in other sims is anything to go by, that means an alien lap here will be about 47 seconds. :-)

In the wet I find myself doing 58′s. I’m too busy wringing water from my overalls to drive any quicker. ;-)

    Andrew McP

  • Zenitchik

    I just can’t break 52, haven’t tried the wet.

And every time I launch the demo, I have to assign the Axis for steering and pedals. (win7 x64, DFGT)

Oh, and the car can get stuck in the sand, so don’t go there :P

  • Mikkel Gram-Hansen

This is an alpha demo done by one guy.. that it’s compared to iRacing, ISI, SimBin and LFS in any way can only be a huge pat on the back for Piboso and a pretty good indication that it’s worth for him to keep labouring over his creation for more week and months and years :)

We already knew he was good from GP Bikes, but this was still a nice positive surprise.

  • pisaric

This is very good game, car feels pretty real,I cant wait full version,my best time is 50,96 and it can be better, with a setup.Great job….

Anyone else experiencing problems with engine-sounds in cockpit-view?
I can’t hear the engine in cockpit-view, only in T-cam view.
