Watch A New Preview Video of The GP3 Mod for rFactor2

Slow Motion, haunetal1990 & RaceFreak1976 are working on bringing the GP3 series to rFactor 2, showing off an impressive first preview video.

The video shows off plenty of the upcoming mod’s features, including tire deformations, working DRS and more.

The GP3 Series was launched in 2010 and is designed as feeder series for the popular GP2 series (which of course is a feeder series for Formula One). The series uses Dallara-built and Renault-powered spec racing cars that put out 280hp.

Tyre model is awesome! Good job!

  • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Tyre flexing is great, just like in real life. Those fronts need a bit more air in them though 🙂
I wonder if the flexing amount is also related to tyre pressure. The less pressure the more flexing maybe.

Mod looking great overall, but MAN I dislike that new rF2 logo. It’s just confusion and looks like I need my 1970’s 3D glasses to see it right.

    • Max Faz

I agree new rF2 logo is really bad.

    • http://batman-news.com Leeman

Agreed. The logo is absolutely horrendous. I work with graphic designers on a daily basis and that is just awful.

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

Horrendous is right. Someone smoking the wrong stuff that day.

      • 5hitm4k3r666

The studio is in the Netherlands, so …

      • Traumahound

        …and..?

      • http://racingrenders.com/ F1Racer

        Hahaha !

  • Dan Webber

I think you will find that gp3 has more than 280HP from memory it is around the 400 mark.

  • Kev

At this point, the only thing keeping me away from rF2 is terrible AI. People talk about great rF2 AI but then expect me to fix it when it sucks. Makes no sense. Any mod or car that is released should come with AIW, .ini, .wis or whatever for several tracks or else I won’t bother.

    • Depco

Can you list the specific track and car combo that has the terrible AI? I am not saying every mod has super fantastic AI but I haven’t found a “released” mod yet that had Terrible AI.

      • Kev

Yes I can and believe me it’s not single combo but dozens and possibly entire genres but that is the wrong approach.

Studio 397 needs to decide what content it will own and disown.

Only then can I and others evaluate it as anything other than a “mixed bag”.

For example, I say car A has a problem and the community (never ISI ; we’ll see whether S397 ever responds to any quality issues other than USF2000) immediately responds with something like “well that’s a historic vehicle so you need to create a new AIW or it won’t work well”.

Reiza has never said anything like this and won’t sleep until things work. ISI? No response or interest in anything like this ever other than “don’t use that car”.

      • Joe Nathan

Funny how I can put together a compilation of poor Reiza AI and the opposite for rF2. I’m currently working on a video showing the reason why rF2 has some of the best AI in simracing today.

      • Marc Collins

The AI in rF2 beats anything out there. Is it perfect, no? Is it easy to implement in cars and tracks, no. Are there some bad combinations, yes. Did ISI do a good job on consistency in their product? No.

But overall, no title comes close to it in quality and realism. I, too, await Kev’s list. Whatever is on it, someone else can come up with triple the list for any other title.

      • Kev

        Re-posting my comment above…

“At this point, the only thing keeping me away from rF2 is terrible AI. People talk about great rF2 AI but then expect me to fix it when it sucks. Makes no sense. Any mod or car that is released should come with AIW, .ini, .wis or whatever for several tracks or else I won’t bother.”

So the AI sucks for me and if I am driving the wrong combos then just tell me what combos work and I’ll drive those or tell me what combos to avoid and I’ll avoid them.

I think we are all in agreement that AI can be the best there is but not for me personally which is what I say above. No comparison to other sims is going to solve my problem which is that I don’t know what is supposed to work in rF2 and what is not supposed to work in rF2.

My list is not going to help anyone else.

Comparing to other sims is not going to help anyone else.

I don’t even care about what sim I’m driving. It’s about the cars, tracks and AI.

I drive AMS for one main reason and that is that I know what to expect. If I see a problem then I report it and it gets fixed. Are there limitations to what can be fixed? Yes. Are there limitations to what the AI can do? Yes. Is Reiza committed to expanding what the AI is capable of? Yes.

Is S397 going to do anything about quality? Dunno.

Is there a list of cars I should be driving and not driving? No.

Does any of this matter to anyone else? Possibly because depending on what they drive the quality will be all over the place.

      • 5hitm4k3r666

I think I read that you have problems with the Lola T70/Howsten. Here a little tip from my side as I had problems with the BT20 at Spa66 few days ago. The AI has some problems with historics on green tracks, when you start a race without qualifiyng. It’s comparable to a situation, when you throw 15 random guys without practice in a real BT20 race and they have to go for it 😀

Joke aside, I just gave them 30 minutes of Qualifying and all worked fine due to AI being in the right “talent order”. Something you could also do is to adjust the agression, the general difficulty and AI limiter. You should be able to get some decent results. Maybe Studio 397 gives the option that AI is always ordered by talent in pickup races in the future, but so far I’ve haven’t come accross the huge issues that you seem to have. I hope that helps.

      • Kev

Agree with everything you say above and have also adopted this vehicle as my next project as it is also littered with car-specific VEH, RCD and TBC issues all of which I am planning to fix myself.

Marc nails it here I believe…

“But as we know, the rF2 system for AI is so complicated it deserves a proper re-think in case there are systematic ways to improve it that do not involve manually readjusting every AIW on every track and re-doing every car.”

… and if S397 can figure out a way for (for example) historic vehicles and modern vehicles to both work on tracks or, even better, some way to automate AIW (beyond just type 2 training along existing AIW) creation for specific cars then my family will never see me again.

      • Marc Collins

You are correct that AMS is more predictable, polished, consistent and has phenomenal customer response from Reiza. I don’t need to tell you that a large proportion of the responsiveness was due to S397 people (operating under Luminis) doing a lot of the heavy lifting. We are hoping and assuming that the same approach will be taken with rF2. However, S397 wants to show their good faith by releasing some content and updates that actually impress before tackling everyone’s wish lists. Moving the title to DX11 is a huge task and is the priority. Without that, the majority will continue to complain and not give rF2 it’s due. Horrid UI is another problem. Once those two are fixed, I think we will see progress in all the same areas where AMS shines. But as we know, the rF2 system for AI is so complicated it deserves a proper re-think in case there are systematic ways to improve it that do not involve manually readjusting every AIW on every track and re-doing every car. If you don’t have the patience to be patient, then play AMS.

      • Kev

Agree 100% on everything you say above and nothing you say above conflicts with anything I have said either 😉

      • Kev

I already said I can list dozens of combos. If I do will you fix them? Will S397 fix them? If I do will you stop saying rF2 has the best AI? Can you list the combos that work or should not work?

Instead of cherry picking combos that work, maybe explain what rF2 does well and when instead of across-the-board statements that are misleading.

Nothing is good across the board in rF2.

No one knows what S397 is taking credit for vs disowning.

Until then, rF2 will continue to be nothing more than a mixed bag.

        Why can’t people understand that?

      • Joe Nathan

If you can list them, then list them.

I know there’s a some bad combos, but I want to know what you’ve come up with. Saying you know bad conbos, and then when asked which ones, you just say you know a lot of them… Makes me think you don’t have any… And I know there are some, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to put together a small list.

      • Hash

Not playing RF2 because of “bad” AI, is like not playing AC becasue it doesn’t have Porches.

      • Kev

        What cars do you drive?

    • Roger Ramjet

one of the very few people Ive ever heard say that the AI in rf2 are terrible, most say its the best of any sim ever .. your choice of cars and tracks is your issue, most likely wip or poor quick conversions or the well known issue of stock cars .

      • Kev

I did not say the AI in rF2 is terrible. I said my main problem is terrible AI which in my personal case is almost always. I know there are combos where AI is good.

I am speaking about stock content. S397 doesn’t have any control over the quality of mod tracks or cars.

All S397 needs to do is decided what part of rF2 it is going to take credit for and therefore what part of rF2 can be evaluated for quality.

You can’t say rF2 has the best AI because it doesn’t when cars are piling up and smashing into walls every corner.

  • noroardanto

Tyre flexing looks so real. Hopefully when the mod is released, rF2 has move to dx11. At the moment, it just stutter on my rig, while I can play AC and pCars with high settings at 1290×1080 on a single monitor.

    • Sigmatc

      1290 or 1920 😉 ??

      And this mod looks GREAT

      Nice work guys

      • noroardanto

        Typo 😀
