Watch Mixed Reality Historic Monaco in rFactor 2

rFactor 2’s brand new DirectX 11 beta has just been out for a few hours and Marcel Pfister has already given it his famous “Mixed Reality” treatment.

In his newest video below, we get to watch a historic Formula One race at Monaco using rFactor 2’s brand new virtual reality support, including a vicious crash.

What is Mixed Reality?

It´s a way to record and show gameplay to serve a better understanding of how it feels to use Virtual Reality. It uses a greenscreen to later blend out the room you are playing in and instead blending in the virtual environment life or in video editing. So it´s only a way to show to the viewers, while playing i can´t see my wheel and real hands. So it´s not like Augmented Reality, which will maybe come in a few years and will look similar. The quality looks worse than it is while playing, because i record in 1080p, but have t stretch and crop the footage to a part of one eye, which results in a resolution less than 720p.

Doesn’t look good in that video, Marcel , try some of the content that have been updated to the new rf2 dx 11, the track and car used in your video I don’t think they have been updated yet.

    • Marcel

it was the wish of the devs. the brabham was a new version that the’ve send me and other tracks and cars ran with even lover framerate. I think they will update the performance soon and add more updated content that I can record more diverse content. The reason why it dosn’t look that good is because of early vr support, very low graphics, pp turned off and some issues they have with vr

The historic stuff at Monaco was the only real fun I had in rF2, but it was really good fun.

Almost nothing casts a shadow. They have a long way to go to match even RF1-based RRRE.

    • Richard Hessels

Shadow settings are down to maintain 90fps

      • Marcel

Right, and there was a shadow bug I only found out after recording how to fix it

They have a long way to go to match iRacing.
