Posted on November 21st, 2008 in

Alexandr Balanesko and Hermmie have released the VW Golf V GTI for rFactor, bringing a powerful compact car to the simulation.

The VW Golf V GTI is powered by a turbo-enhanced four-cylinder FSI engine, putting out 200 hp. The car is included in both street specifications as well as in race trim. The street version comes in ten different colors and with a rich selection of upgrade options. You can choose between ten different rims, three gearbox variants including VW’s DSG gearbox, three different exhaust and engine packages as well as skinnable license plates.

The racing version includes racing interior, a more powerful 270hp engine and a full field of racing liveries. Templates for the cars are also available, enabling you to paint up your very own example.

OK got the sound fix from rfc :)

Really cool mod. Nice car behaviour, car model is excellent, sounds are pretty much what you’d expect from this car.
    Nice job !

Rather odd, imho. The model is great, but the car flies through the revs so easily, is the real car like this? First is useless, even on hairpins. And theres way too much grip and braking power…

 shame mebbe altered physics’ll do it

Both interior and exterior look rather nice, but 83 km/h in 2nd? Can’t be right: http://vimeo.com/2156518

So why are NFS converted cars legal and Simbin converts are evil? I don’t get it. Everyone starts to cry if someone converts Simbin stuff but it’s ok to rip content from other games…

Maybe this community should reconsider its moral principles?

Also his “shop” is great. He seems to sell converted models…

Hi, great work with the mod. This car is so fun to drive for real!

A few tweaks though. The car is to light. Weights 1340 with 10 liter of fuel. The tires are spec to grip to 1.3 G. In real they grip about 1,05G. And the car has to much understeer and way to little rebound. This is a very much stuck to the road in real life.

So I made these adjustments to what I think is right. How can I contact the makers so let them have a try?

    thanks

I retract my comments about the model then. I thought the mod maker modelled it. Its not quite the same when its a rip from a commercial game. Yes it should indeed be treated in the same way as ripping from Simbin as its just as illegal. The only difference is that NFS isnt a sim that directly competes with rFactor.

    @F1Racer
of all people that comment here, i respect & agree with all youre post for standing up to all the crap that others post about MMG, that a side, the golf maybe ripped from another game, i dont know i dont play EA’s games, we do need modern vehicles in rfactor, with 100s of F1 type mods for rfactor, it soon gets boring, so i would like to see more modern vehicles in rfactor, ripped or not, just my two pence worth, i’m english not american

Even if the NFS games aren’t directly competing with rFactor the community should lay down some rules.

If it’s wrong the rip off Simbin games then it’s also wrong to rip off other games. There’s no point in creating a double standard just because some don’t like EA or the NFS brand isn’t competing with rFactor.

Regarding to the RSC rules ripping stuff from certain game developers is prohibited including Codemasters and they aren’t doing simulations either. It’s really sad that the community including the big sites are incredibly incosequent.

Also the comunity seems to act true the motto “I don’t care where I get my stuff from as long as I get it.” lately.

Thanks samanthaUK (are you a female btw ??).
I agree with you that we need more modern cars and even street cars in rFactor and I’m sure there are more on the way.
But as a principle, I do agree with everything that erale said. Ripping is illegal regardless of the company you do it from.
Also where is the satisfaction in doing a mod from models ripped from other commercial software ?
When you see the work and effort that people (e.g. Arnold Wong, ) are putting in to model their cars for their mods you can really appreciate it more even if it might not be your type of mod. You know there’s passion gone into it so they will be trying their utmost to make it the best that it can be. With ripped content, I can’t help but get the feeling that its all the more rushed and pushed out there just to get it out. I dunno.
Anyway, out of principle, even though I was enjoying this mod, I am going to uninstall and delete it.

    @F1Racer
Yes i am  and from England, i actually find driving games relaxing (offline), sim or arcade, more modern vehicles please, ive seen a ford focus WRC mod while doing a server refresh for rfactor, anyone have a link to the file?

  19. F1Racer

cool. Sorry if it was obvious, but as females in sims are a rare thing, I had to ask :)

  20. F1Racer

‘in sim racing’ that should read :)

  21. Raikku

If EA(or CM) continue to release only crappy games, it’s just right to use those games as a source of cars.

I don’t feel sorry for EA, they doesn’t deserve any sympathy.

  22. F1Racer

yeah and if shops keep putting their prices up, its only right we should steal from them.

  23. erale

That’s exactly what I meant. When I read such comments I’m really ashamed to be a part of this community. But maybe I’m not even a member of this community because I’m not that inconsequent and ignorant?

So let’s summarize: steeling is ok and in case of EA desirable. But it’s a huge scandal when it comes to our beloved heroes of Simbin.
