RJC_pt: the s40r and 850 have engine listed as an inline 4…. a volvo? really? they’re inline 5’s…

Do you think that the 5 cylinder engine was the only one, which the Volvo S40 raced with? I don't think so. I remember the nice game named ToCA 2, where the S40 had a five cylinder engine. But I think in this game it's made good (the number of valves is correct)

You Boys, I really like this game and I think the physics of this game is really good made (I drive Volvo S60 with mouse, and on manual transmission (controlled with scrolling wheel) and I think the car is behaving really). And to the problem with FWD or AWD. If you would spend more time than one minute doing the options, you would find something like acceleration sensitivity - I turned it to full (100%) and now when I accelerate, the wheels are overspinning (even though on gear 2 and 3 (!!!!!!!!!! really strong engines)) and here I nicely see which of FWD or AWD the car has.

erale: There is no information available if the S60 concept is a AWD or FWD car. The older S60 was a FWD car with few exceptions like the R version.I think it’s a sure bet that the next S60 will also be mainly a FWD car.

Has no one noticed that SIMBIN has corrected the center screen issue for TH2G users. The matrox Support load screen is not simply a advertisement. The menu and race info as well as tachometer and speedometers all load and position themselves in the center monitor in the Volvo game.

Fantastic hope this is also included in the Race On Game!

Thanks SIMBIN for a great free game...despite what some folks think. Great new track as well!

Thanks to Volvo for hiring SIMBIN to develop this game for all gamers and I hope they get some great feedback for there investment. I'm going to test drive a Volvo this weekend. :sd:

Also it lists the 240 engine as an inline-5. Weird, I always thought it's the same engine family as the later immortal 2.3l, which was FOUR cylinder.

So the game lists the concept as front wheel drive? Odd.. as the hdc's are configured for all wheel drive.

I only have one complaint, i’ve tried registering with 3 different email accounts and no success so far. so thats annoying.

Try to register using the same e-mail adresses once again, that worked for me. I've waited half a day before doing it all over again. SimBin has to get this sorted sooner or later.

Rite, with all this realism chat.
It does help if you've driven a proper race car, single seater or otherwise, to know what its like.
You don't need to be a proffesional race driver, or have a degree in physics, to make a reasonable judgement as to how realistic a sim game is. You can't take drivers words for it, when the so called proffesional goes 'gtr2 was realistic'. Well, of course they are going to say that, they are most likely being paid as a marketing tool by simbin, to say things like that. How many drivers have said gran turismo is realistic, when we all know its complete sh*te.

Fortunately I have driven both single seaters and a radical in proper testing (never proffessionally raced of course). I'll stress that this isn't a requirement. If you have a reasonable understanding of physics, anyone can make a judgement as to how realistic the game is, even if they've never driven a race car. You can TELL how realistic an F1 game is or not, by simply observing what the cars look like to drive on TV, the speed they are taking the corners, the laptimes being produced, the amount of steering angle the driver is applying. It's pretty obvious to know what 750bhp in a car weighing 600kg must be like, you don't have to be an F1 driver to know this. The only thing you'd never know is the gforces involved, but thats true in any simracing of course.

what i will say is GTR2 was a backward step, for sure. The cars seemed far to grippy, and didn't have the weighty feeling that GTR1 had - GT's are heavy cars. So anyone who thinks GTR2 was actually realistic, or, better than GTR1, are n00bs.

As for this volvo game, i've just had a bash in it. It doesn't seem anymore realistic/unrealistic than any other simbin offering - the touring cars drive similar to gtrevo cars, and they drive as you'd expect. Power understeer, due to FWD, lift off oversteer, as you'd expect. They are fun to drive.

As for the concept car, it's got that heavy weighty feeling, which, if anyone has driven a 200+hp road car on a track, knows thats what they are like.

Overall the game is adequate, and considering its totally free, you cannot complain really.

I only have one complaint, i've tried registering with 3 different email accounts and no success so far. so thats annoying.

Altough not shown, the small letters and CAPS letters work, so just UsE it LikE You WaNT It To Be  . Also, with most providers the use of small and BIG letters does not make a difference, i.e. GTRNL@hotmail.com and gtrnl@hotmail.com are the same...

5.1?
Great, hope Race On will have it aswell.

How's online?
The same as offline, only with less cars and tracks and no crashes.

In the game click on (I think it was) car details. The game tells you The S60 Concept is FWD, has 210 bhp and is 1100 kg's.

And what are you guys talking about, I raced online before this post was made on VirtualR. But it ain't much. Just the S60 concept (not the race version) on Gothenburg, quali only, and cars go 'ghost' when they come near you, so you can't crash in to each other (which also means no 'public-server-crahsers' everybody's just doing their laps).

And there has been a new version of WTCCED released, so Chaycka for GTR Evo (personal conversion) it is.

I can't locate much for real specs on the S60... however I know there was another older s60-r model sedan I believe that was all wheel drive. I assume this car is also?

xilix: It seems as though everything is going exactly how I predicted it would go for Simbin. To clarify my stance right off the bat, I’ve always liked Simbin’s software and still do, but I fear they’ve lost their way. They are not developing things correctly and this Volvo game is yet another example of Simbin not sticking to their roots of realism.
The S60 Concept car is supposedly FWD. Well, not according to Simbin. Because both the road version and race version in the game are AWD. This was no doubt something done to please Volvo. I’m guessing the peeps at Volvo tried it and said the car wasn’t handling the way they wanted it to handle, most likely because of the lift-off over-steer associated with driving a front wheel drive car fast into a corner.

As one who works for Volvo, I'd suggest you review your (our) facts before accusing SimBin of being unrealistic about this.

i dont like the 240, it sits to high... :sad2:
there seems not to be a stering angle setup? the rest of the setup i understand nute the stterring make the game unplayable with my g25 setings.
Also the S60 Concept really as silly grip for a roadcar :weird: :haha:

The good thing is, it's free. But there are many other facts, why i like this promotional game.

The cars are amazing. The S40, 240 and 850 are better modelled than any car in Race07, GTRE or STCC. And when i remember that i didn't pay for it. Wohooo. Nice job.

And it's going to be better and better. Luigi's tool for encryption was updated shortly after the release. So it's no problem to drive these cars in Evo as well :D
