VisionRacer VR3 Meets D-BOX – Video

I´ve shown lots of professional full motion racing simulators on this before but while most of these are completely out of reach for the normal sim racer, the video below shows the first test run of a more affordable solution.

The video shows the prototype of a VisionRacer VR3 racing rig combined with a D-BOX 3DOF motion box in action with a game called Nitro Stunt Racing. Even though the title is not a simulation, both the big and the small beta tester seem to enjoy their experience a lot.

D-BOX’s motion technology is supported by all major simulations including rFactor, the Simbin titles and iRacing. Pricing info on this new unit is not yet available but with regular VisionRacer rigs selling for less than a thousand dollars, it should be within the pricing range of sim racing enthusiasts.

    I’m sure the D-Box is fantastic but….

You guys have got to try the game they are using ‘Nitro Stunt Racing’…the most fun you’ll have without your sim head on :sd:

Think Trackmania meets F-Zero…with quite good physics…well for that type of vehicle!!

I was never interested in the VR3 Rig exactly for not including something extra i.e. a D-BOX when I get my ultimate rig it has to include it! If they sell this VR3 racing rig + D-BOX 3DOF for the current rig price I’ll be all over it! Over 1k is too much money for me!

If using one in an apartment, would that annoy my neighbors? I believe that a butt-kicker is out of the question, but I wonder how noisy is that thing. Of course I will keep my voice down, not like the person in the video .

ok that is officially one of the most annoying laughs ever.
The kid seems a lot less impressed too :)

Always liked the VR3 though, nice rig.

I priced the last Dbox add-on solution (someone else showed it under a Playseat before), but just the DBox parts were something like $4k. Unless they have come WAY down, X-sim (http://www.x-simulator.de/forum/) is much more affordable if you like to tinker. I believe it’s around $500 ea for the two required motion actuators and the rest is adapters and software (but a lot of tinkering. Dbox should be a more off-the-shelf solution, but a lot more $$ I’d guess.)

VR3 to me is perhaps the best looking commercially available racing setup but I’m not a big fan of D-BOX. Personally, the only motion feedback system that I feel will actually simulate g-force or lateral pull is the Frex Simconmotion which unlike these other motion simulator, the steering wheel is static and more importantly doesn’t move as part of the motion (and in the same direction).

Have you ever driven a car where the steering wheel was not moving with it? To me this is simply wrong. I have never tried the D-box, but at least they seem to be on the right thinking.

    That guy really likes it.

My fantasy is to get a Blue Tiger http://www.bluetiger.com/index.html

A d-box might do in the interim.

very interesting! but are you sure the thing wont just take off? :sd:

A good motion simulator doesn’t necessarily simulate the movement of the car but rather the g-force that the driver experience while cornering. So it doesn’t have to physically simulate the movement of the car but instead convey the movement one would experience while cornering. So basically, it’s the movement your body goes through while cornering in relation to the steering wheel. I’m pretty sure there is full motion simulator that works well even when the steering wheel is mounted as part of it (which btw you can do with Frex Simconmotion) but from my experience with Simconmotion where the steering wheel is kept static is that the sensation is more pronounced and effective.

Mate, thanks for the tip. I dolwnloaded the demo, did one race, and plumped down the $20 for the full game. Awesome racer. I’ve been wishing someone would remake Stunt Car Racer for years.
