VirtualR is back….

Geez, what a day it was. The move to the new server did not work as planned at all as the site kept on maxing out the chosen machine. After plenty of phone calls to the hoster and about eight hours of work on my side, the site is now back online. Today would have been an excellent day to start smoking….. :weird:

It is in somewhat of a safemode though as the server will need some improvements in the coming days to get it back up to speed. Until then, a few features have been turned off and the site isn’t as fast as it used to be. Please be a little patient and allow longer loading times, my first goal was to get the site back up – Tweaking comes next.

By the start of next week, the site should back up to its old strength – I hope you all don’t mind the little inconvenience until then :grin:

    So, Im a bit confused, is the site now back up on the new server after the 8 hours of problems or is it still on the old one because “it didn’t work out as planned” ?

    It’s on the new server but the server is still too slow…

    Complicated story, to make it short: The site was on a shared server until yesterday where it sucked up 98% of the resources but appareantly nobody realised how power-hungry it has become.

    So it was moved, but on a server that’s a little too slow, causing even more problems. The site is now running on the new server but the server needs to be equipped with more RAM etc. to fully suit the site.

    That will happen sometime over the weekend, until then the site will be running rather slow with occasional errors. There’s nothing I can do about that until then so please bear with me :grin:

    In the end, it’s somewhat shocking what kind of monster this site has become. Since it was on a shared account, there was no way for me to check the used resources and the hoster didn’t seem to realise either. I guess the other customers on the shared server didn’t complain loud enough, their sites must have run very bad though.

    I guess I can be proud of that but I didn’t feel like it today. It is clear though that 20 months after being opened, this site needs a very powerful server to operate… and the days of me having good hosting for a bargain are over :roll: :wink:

    I tweaked some caching values, that should make the site run a little smoother until the server is ironed out….
