Virtual Grand Prix 3 – F1 2009 Fantasy Mod

Jason Frabotta and Paolo Cattani are working on a new mod for Virtual Grand Prix 3, adding a fictional 2009-stlye Formula series to the simulation. Formula Fantasy 2009 will include 16 drivers and is inspired by the new Formula One aero regulations.

Virtual Grand Prix 3 features a full field of Formula cars and five different tracks. The sim sells for reasonable 14,90€ including one year of updates, a free demo is available on the VGP3 website.

    I tried it, not so long ago. The thing that turned me away was IMO too small FOV – for which I couldn’t find adjustment.
    And other one is the head movement as you turn the wheel around – also I couldn’t find where to turn it off. Those two things annoyed me so much that I uninstalled it next minute.

    I’m sure it has potential, it’s tire model is rather interesting. Plus it is inexpensive. But for me being unable to adjust fov and head movement is big donwside.

    You just need to change your driving view: press 2 on your keyboard and you’ll have a fixed cockpit view. :wink:

    As for the FOV, I asked for the possibility to change it too, but by now there still are no options for it.

    Thanks! I’m gonna reinstall it and try it! As for the FOV, well if there is some kind of “seat” adjustment it would be good to know, not necessarily fov adjustment.

    You’re welcome!
    As for the FOV + seat position I hope that Paolo and his team will implement it in the future: after all, we still are at 0,78 version, so there is much room for improvements. :shock:

    Do they plan to implement some sort of “tin top” :)
    Preferably some road version rwd car with around 1200 kilos like old M3 e30 or miata…

    VGP3 has far superior driving and tyre physics engine than the other sims (with exception of NetKar Pro and iRacing) IMO.
    The game is fully moddable, and the best thing is the AI “learns” the tracks, so there is no need of additional AIW programming (as in Gmotor sims).
    Talking about the AI, it’s one of the best features of this sim. Forget about the driving processions or the wreck fests in the Gmotor sims. In VGP3 they are fighting for positions, racing each other and its really hard to beat them, especially in 90% – 100% difficulty.
    Sure, VGP3 is still in development and lacks some features compared to other middleware sims as rFactor, but it has great potential.

    And in no doubt this F1 2009 mod will be excellent, moreover Paolo Cattani the leading VGP3 developer, will be doing the physics. :happy:

    As far as I know, there are no plans for tin top in the close future. As logos said, the sim is fully moddable so this means that it should be possible to have them. :grin:

    I asked for it because many people love tin tops rather then single seaters.. And biggest reason: to compare how one sim feels over another and more importantly, much more, how it feels compared to reality is having a car, preferably in road-going trim – softly sprung, road tires, not too much power…

    And one more tought: VGP has those F1 cars, but all of them fantasy. rFactor has mods which feature real F1 cars, some of them rally high quality (graphics). Physics-wise it’s another story. But people want to see Ferrari Mclaren Force India and others… You see my point. So thats why I think creators should create some interesting tin top, at some point in time…

    Yes, I get your point: probably you should try to make you hear your voice on their forum too. It’s a small community, so it’s easier to get noticed and share ideas. :grin:

    As for the real content, I agree with you: a better graphic would attract more people, that’s for sure. It would be good to see how far can VGP3 go, when properly modded with high quality cars and tracks, but that requires modders to pass from a well known platform (rFactor) to a sim they know knothing about.
    By now I’m happy to see that there is at least someone who is contributing in adding new content to the sim (see F1 2008 carset too: http://www.vgp3depot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=242 ). Maybe in the future we will see some team on VGP3 too: it would be really interesting!
