Virtual Concept RS1 Simulator – Videos

Posted on December 22nd, 2008 in

Virtual Concept has recently unveiled their RS1 racing simulator. The simulator’s most significant feature is the patented “Immersion Screentechnology that provides a 180-degree field of vision while driving. This is a very interesting approach, somewhat comparable to the jDome concept.

The simulator is aimed towards producing real feeling instead of looking like a real race car, the eXtreme package includes 900 degree force feedback wheel and 3 frame-mounted pedals, an 8-gate H-pattern shifter and a functional dashboard with LED shift lights, a gear selection indicator, and several programmable buttons.

Sounds interesting? Then check out the Virtual Concept website and the two preview videos below, showing the simulator at work using rFactor.

While this looks very impressive, the problem is that its larger than life. Especially in the open wheel video where you see the screen is too big for the person.

I actually tried this simulator at the PRI show and the size was perfect. I have a big LCD screen at home but it is nothing compared to this thing because you actually feel like your inside the car. I ran it with nascar and I had the outside wall right next to my head, it was awesome! I saw formula bmw champ Alex Rossi trying it which was pretty cool.

From a direct visual standpoint (the photo that is), I tend to agree with Kramer. 33% of the screen is all cockpit and the in sides. Shouldn’t it be less prominent so as to simulate the looking beyond of it and making the primary focus the track, opponents and the racing visuals, even though in reality we maybe be able to see this much of the inside of the cockpit if you focused on it (which you don’t while racing anyway). The point is, we are already extremely limited within the parameters of simracing already that shouldn’t the ‘trick’ be on the visuals of the track and the racing?

This is by far one of the best values for personal race sims. Had several people try out the sim and they all felt that the product is first class and that it will make a big splash in the virtual race world. This company is run by an extremely talented and dedicated team of sim race fanatics and guess what!!!They really do get it. Awsome product.
