V-WTCC 2012 Cancelled

Back in March, Simbin announced the 2012 Virtual WTCC reviving the concept that first made its debut in 2008.

Unfortunately, the studio has now decided to cancel the V-WTCC until a later date as Simbin’s Marcus Jaeger has issued the following statement:

It is very busy times for SimBin and we are focusing very hard on our upcoming project(s). For that reason we have decided it is wise to postpone any continuation of the V-WTCC project up until a later date.

We have taken this decision in order to maintain focus on new game technologies in development. With our teams hard at work building our next generation of games, the scope and vision of the V-WTCC series compelled us to postpone the V-WTCC concept as it is now. It is our belief that such a series deserves to be done utilizing our latest game and web technologies. We’ve got a big year ahead of us, and while postponing this project was a difficult decision to make, we believe the road ahead will reveal that it was done for all the right reasons.

The V-WTCC was planned to be a points-based hot lap competition as players would have been invited to join in either from home or from Simbin’s gamepark at selected WTCC events.

Part of plan was the release of a free to play title, a plan that has now been cancelled in favor of Simbin’s other work in progress titles.

I was so excited for that project. It’s a sad news.

Hmm… of course they’re trying to spin it positively, but am I the only one that thinks Simbin has to be in trouble? Why would they be doing this?

Life in the SimBin Studio has been quite busy, and trouble is the furthest thing from our minds.

A small announcement was made a few days ago on the SimBin Insider, I believe the reasoning behind today’s announcement will be easier to understand later this summer.

Well they did announce they would be at Gamescom on their Facebook page so maybe this is just a cost cutting excercise to make sure their proper next-gen titles see a release.

As much as I would have liked it, I am not a big fan of hot lap competition (maybe because I am slow, or not quite fast enough to be a contender).
So I prefer they concentrate on releasing their “projects” whatever they may be at this point) than another hot lap competition.

If this was a series of actual races, I would have been much more bummed out.

To be honest it wasn’t something that particularly interested me, so if cancelling this means they have more time to spend on a title like GTR3 then that can only be a good thing.

Why have you guys been so secret with everything Marcus?  You guys aren’t building a nuclear missile are you?

I can’t talk about secrets, if I do they will take away my racing privileges. I’ll just say that if you want to know more, keep an eye on the SimBin Insider and if you can, come see us at Gamescom.

The only missiles at SimBin are guys like Georg and Diego who leave me feeling as though I’m a rookie every time we meet in the RaceRoom. I may have to offer a bounty for the driver that can defeat those two.

    Good stuff Marcus.

Could it be to devote more time to an updated game engine (graphics & physics)? …or maybe a new gaming architecture that will change the way the fan, racing enthusiast, and sim racer is immersed in the motorsport experience. I hope this in a most positive way. I truly wish all developers well.

Look at the number of likes.. I don’t think too many people cared lol.

Not a surprise they also said they would go a GTR2 World Championship when that was in development and nothing ever surfaced..

Translation: none of the top 200 or so names in simracing signed up because every single one slowly migrated to iRacing

It does seem to be the place where most of the top sim drivers haave migrated
