Oh my god... I've just stumbled on this site while researching the history of my race car and could not believe my eyes... The blue and white BMW 635 in the game is the actual car I race... it is the Grundig car raced by David Kennedy in the 1984 BTCC... The car is now in Diners Club livery. Check out www.climaxmotorsport.com to see the real car.

ermax18:
Not sure if you guys know this but RealFeel and carFactory were both developed by Chris Hoyle who is the man behind rFactor Pro and is involved with the dev of rF2. RealFeel will probably be built into rF2 and moders will have no choice but to build realistic suspensions. But then again ISI will probably put a FakeFeel option in the FFB menu to give it Notepad compatability. :)

Or maybe rF2 will refuse to run broken suspensions

Or maybe it will recieve physics update after which running broken suspensions just doesn't work

Alot people within the community don't understand something.

Ever since rFactor got out in 2005, it immediately had some variables that could be picked up by 3rd party plugin and used in whatever way. Plugins like TV Style, Spotter, or RealFeel. The last probably being the simplest of them all: all it does is it takes the "SteeringRackForce" variable outputted by rFactor's physics engine, and outputs it to your steering wheel, with the OPTIONAL processing (damping or smoothing).
So ...what? You see, all normal real cars have suspension links CONNECTED to each other and to the chassis. Otherwise it's a broken suspension.

In rFactor what ones call "RealFeel compatible" and other call "realistic suspension geometry" is also sharing this "feature" of real cars suspensions - it's parts are all connected with each other. And that works great. And feedback from such geometry is pure feedback, very similar to what you would felt in a real car with no power steering.

Thats the better case. The other case is unfortunately 90 percent of the mods which ones call "not compatible to realfeel" and others call it "fudged suspension" is a real mess compared to RL cars. There are mods in which both left and right suspension geometry is identical, eg. both left and right dampers inclined to the right side. Or even none of the suspension links are not connected, all of them "floating in the air". Maybe ISI should introduce gravity :)

And you need to understand that to make a mod "compatible" with realfeel all modder needs to do is create realistic geometry. In this sentence REALISTIC doesn't represent true to life geometry, it represents suspension which at least could exist in real life.

Anyone with small amount of technical knowledge would know that suspension geometry means alot. It can make the same car drive and feel much different. Fudged suspensions often produce weird behaviors, take for example BMW M3 e46 street racing mod - a one which works very good with realfeel, but when the car is in full opposite lock, it's front outer wheel is bouncing up & down like crazy - surely it wouldn't do so if it had some proper suspension.

In the end, it's not the question of using default ffb or realfeel.
It's case of going forward towards more realistic sim experience.
More realistic, properly modeled cars.

This modding scene needs to advance in so called "physics" modding, not just in terms of graphical eye-candy.

carfactory is not just a simple  ''addon'' , in fact is the best way to make realistic cars right now , so this guy should start using the  ''addon'' if he want to have accurate physics and not notepad.txt lotto and stupid FFB effects.

this mod deserves a bit more than crappy physics for god sakes!

Firefox:
Well ReelFeel is a 3rd party addon and it isn’t necessary to have a great time with the mod.
I personally never use reefeel and I love both the mod the FFB it produces via the original FFB Engine.

You're absolutely right. But if you crave accurate force feedback and the realism it brings to a mod, which I and many others do, then RealFeel is a necessity.

ISI's default FFB is crap. It introduces many canned forces into the game that are far from realistic.

But if you're having fun with TCL, that's cool! :)

Check where, mate? No link here. Thanks.

Oops thanks for pointing that out :shame:
Here it is

I agree with others regarding TREx. It's the next best thing that has happen to rF, yet so little modders chose it. That only shows their actual lack of knowledge when it comes to technical understanding of car parameters and what outcome those have on car behaviour.

ermax18:
PK500, you are a FFB guru. I haven’t had a chance to try this mod. Are you finding that this mod isn’t very RealFeel compatible? I read the readme and there is no mention about FFB at all. I also don’t see Niels’ name in the credits.

Ermax, thanks for the compliment. But I can't hold the dampers and springs of guys like Niels, TechAde and Kangaloosh. They are the gurus; I'm just an FFB geek who has spent WAY too much time studying countless threads about this topic and learned something along the way from the wisdom of the guys mentioned above and others.

I haven't tried this mod yet. But Petrol, one of the creators, confirmed in the TCL thread at NoGrip that the mod was not built for RealFeel:

http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9054&page=5

It's interesting how he calls RealFeel a subjective third-party add-on that depends on "feel." That's hogwash; RealFeel is based on accurate suspension data, and its data should be adjusted according to data that can be gleaned from MoTeC telemetry data gathered from a few clean laps with each car.

Take care,

Vkt:
Maybe tRex as official tool to make the suspension/tyres? huh ISI

The combination of Trex for tires and RealFeel for suspensions is the holy grail of accurate rFactor modding right now.

Boggles my mind that more modders don't use these incredible tools, instead preferring the Dark Ages alchemy of Notepad.

Take care,
