Team TCL has released their very much anticipated Touring Car Legends mod for rFactor, bringing plenty of legendary Group A touring cars from various championships to the simulation.
Included are legendary cars from championships like the DTM & BTCC from manufacturers like BMW, Mercedes, Holden, Toyota & Ford.
The mod comes in separate packages including the base files, skins and sounds. The base pack includes at least one skin per car so you can try the mod without having the skin package completely downloaded.

One of the most eagerly anticipated mods is here! Much thanks for sharing with us guys.
Wow, that’s a lot of skins, are they all real-life liveries? If they are I’ll have to d/l them all anyways. But really wish other mod teams would do releases like this, especially if the skins are mostly fantasy.

well , after some laps with various cars , i’m a bit disappointed with this mod , but don’t take this wrong , 3d models are ok , physics too (a bit simple but .. ok) sounds.. hmmm can be better yes… the very first reason for my disappointment is the FFB… jezzzzz why no one can replicate the AWESOME feel of the ffb that the HistorX mod have? is that than hard to do?
Anyway… i love the 635 and the merc 190 , thanks.

Are you using HistoriX with the RealFeel?
Paul Kelly
March 25th, 2009 at 19:07
Is the Touring Car Legends mod truly RealFeel-compatible? Were the suspensions built with CarFactory?
rFactor Central is littered with mods for which the mod creators insist the mod is compatible with RealFeel even though their suspensions weren’t built with CarFactory. Nearly all of those mods aren’t truly compatible with RealFeel.
Vkt
March 25th, 2009 at 19:13
of course , that’s the reason why i said that and i can not make they feel the same way.
HistorX mod have far away the best FFB of all mods around rfactor.

Well even those mods that don’t have correct suspension models can be made to feel good via plugin. Take DRM mod for example – I’ve set it to mix with default FFB at 50%. So default FFB masks it’s suspension flaws while on the other side you still have RealFeel magic.
This mixing it with the default FFB after alot of testing proved to be better method to mask flawed suspensions instead of using high damper settings.
I actually tend to completely avoid use of damper in real feel.ini – i set it to default at lowest possible setting (in most cases 11500), and if mod is nothy on the wheel I first try to cure it with smoothing, step by step increasing. And if smoothing of 9 doesn’t help, I’m decreasing ffb mixer to the point where I’m happy with the feedback.
Of course for mixing with the default FFB you need good (read: REALISTIC) controller.ini – FFB section.
Check here for the fantastic FFB guide. Written originally for GTR2 but with little brain usage you can easily “convert” it on-the-fly for rFactor. Or perhaps, latest simbin mods

I run have this set in my controller.ini:
FFB steer force output max=”0″
This completely turns off rFactor built in FFB. So now it is completely up to RealFeel or LeoFFB to provide forces. I prefer RealFeel.
PK500, you are a FFB guru. I haven’t had a chance to try this mod. Are you finding that this mod isn’t very RealFeel compatible? I read the readme and there is no mention about FFB at all. I also don’t see Niels’ name in the credits.
rF2 is going to improve FFB but I sort of doubt that is really possible if people continue to throw random numbers at the suspension parameters. Time will tell I guess. :)

The combination of Trex for tires and RealFeel for suspensions is the holy grail of accurate rFactor modding right now.
Boggles my mind that more modders don’t use these incredible tools, instead preferring the Dark Ages alchemy of Notepad.
Take care,
PK
Paul Kelly
March 26th, 2009 at 06:09
Ermax, thanks for the compliment. But I can’t hold the dampers and springs of guys like Niels, TechAde and Kangaloosh. They are the gurus; I’m just an FFB geek who has spent WAY too much time studying countless threads about this topic and learned something along the way from the wisdom of the guys mentioned above and others.
I haven’t tried this mod yet. But Petrol, one of the creators, confirmed in the TCL thread at NoGrip that the mod was not built for RealFeel:
http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9054&page=5
It’s interesting how he calls RealFeel a subjective third-party add-on that depends on “feel.” That’s hogwash; RealFeel is based on accurate suspension data, and its data should be adjusted according to data that can be gleaned from MoTeC telemetry data gathered from a few clean laps with each car.
Take care,
PK

I agree with others regarding TREx. It’s the next best thing that has happen to rF, yet so little modders chose it. That only shows their actual lack of knowledge when it comes to technical understanding of car parameters and what outcome those have on car behaviour.

”3rd party add-ons” … lol
Firefox
March 26th, 2009 at 12:03
Well ReelFeel is a 3rd party addon and it isn’t necessary to have a great time with the mod.
I personally never use reefeel and I love both the mod the FFB it produces via the original FFB Engine.
Paul Kelly
March 26th, 2009 at 14:12
You’re absolutely right. But if you crave accurate force feedback and the realism it brings to a mod, which I and many others do, then RealFeel is a necessity.
ISI’s default FFB is crap. It introduces many canned forces into the game that are far from realistic.
But if you’re having fun with TCL, that’s cool! :)
Vkt
March 26th, 2009 at 14:26
carfactory is not just a simple
”addon” , in fact is the best way to make realistic cars right now , so this guy should start using the
”addon” if he want to have accurate physics and not notepad.txt lotto and stupid FFB effects.
this mod deserves a bit more than crappy physics for god sakes!
lovretta
March 26th, 2009 at 14:55
Alot people within the community don’t understand something.
Ever since rFactor got out in 2005, it immediately had some variables that could be picked up by 3rd party plugin and used in whatever way. Plugins like TV Style, Spotter, or RealFeel. The last probably being the simplest of them all: all it does is it takes the “SteeringRackForce” variable outputted by rFactor’s physics engine, and outputs it to your steering wheel, with the OPTIONAL processing (damping or smoothing).
So …what? You see, all normal real cars have suspension links CONNECTED to each other and to the chassis. Otherwise it’s a broken suspension.
In rFactor what ones call “RealFeel compatible” and other call “realistic suspension geometry” is also sharing this “feature” of real cars suspensions – it’s parts are all connected with each other. And that works great. And feedback from such geometry is pure feedback, very similar to what you would felt in a real car with no power steering.
Thats the better case. The other case is unfortunately 90 percent of the mods which ones call “not compatible to realfeel” and others call it “fudged suspension” is a real mess compared to RL cars. There are mods in which both left and right suspension geometry is identical, eg. both left and right dampers inclined to the right side. Or even none of the suspension links are not connected, all of them “floating in the air”. Maybe ISI should introduce gravity :)
And you need to understand that to make a mod “compatible” with realfeel all modder needs to do is create realistic geometry. In this sentence REALISTIC doesn’t represent true to life geometry, it represents suspension which at least could exist in real life.
Anyone with small amount of technical knowledge would know that suspension geometry means alot. It can make the same car drive and feel much different. Fudged suspensions often produce weird behaviors, take for example BMW M3 e46 street racing mod – a one which works very good with realfeel, but when the car is in full opposite lock, it’s front outer wheel is bouncing up & down like crazy – surely it wouldn’t do so if it had some proper suspension.
In the end, it’s not the question of using default ffb or realfeel.
It’s case of going forward towards more realistic sim experience.
More realistic, properly modeled cars.
This modding scene needs to advance in so called “physics” modding, not just in terms of graphical eye-candy.
ermax18
March 26th, 2009 at 20:25
Not sure if you guys know this but RealFeel and carFactory were both developed by Chris Hoyle who is the man behind rFactor Pro and is involved with the dev of rF2. RealFeel will probably be built into rF2 and moders will have no choice but to build realistic suspensions. But then again ISI will probably put a FakeFeel option in the FFB menu to give it Notepad compatability. :)
lovretta
March 26th, 2009 at 20:59
Or maybe rF2 will refuse to run broken suspensions
Or maybe it will recieve physics update after which running broken suspensions just doesn’t work
Paul Kelly
