After bringing us the Argentinian Turismo Carretera Series, 2PEZ Games Development is bringing us another South American racing series with their Top Race 2009 simulation.
Based on the trusted gMotor 2 engine by Image Space Incorporated, Top Race 2009 simulates the successful Top Race touring car series, including all cars, drivers and tracks that make up this rather exotic series.
Powered by 350HP V6 engines, the Top Race touring cars are tube-framed racing cars that use silhouettes which resemble well-known road cars such as the VW Passat, the Ford Mondeo or the Chevrolet Astra. The cars are powerful and durable enough to provide stunning door to door touring car racing on twelve different race tracks.
While most sim racers should be familiar with the Brazilian Interlagos track, the other 11 circuits will be new to most European or North American sim racers. The choice of tracks includes both tight and twisty as well as fast flowing tracks, all of which are available as dry and wet version.
Top Race 2009 will be available in Spanish and English, the title is planned to be released later this month. More info can be found on the Top Race 2009 website and you can enjoy lots of screenshots below.

Some very nice screen shots
.
I like the look of this game now that I’ve watched the Video on their official website. Might have to try it when it’s out.
I didn’t like Turismo Carretera as the cars were too hard to control, but hopefully this will have a better feel to it. The video certainly promotes some good close racing
.

It certainly looks a bit better than the ACTC, car models at least… I haven’t seen much about tracks though, which were underwhelming to say the least, in previous 3DGen/2Pez games. If they’ve improved in that area, I might end up paying for it.

The menus look really good, much better than a lot of other games.

What struck me the most was the almost identical Monitor and Setup menus as rFactor. :D Just with a white theme. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing though, as rF works just fine.
The cars look… weird, in some way, I think. Probably just because I haven’t seen their real life counterparts. And I still prefer the look of the WTCC cars instead of this. Maybe that’s just me.
The screenies are okay, I guess, but not stunning in any way.

Looks good. The video on their site reminds me of the excellent tracks and close racing battles from the STCC.

The cars aren’t really hard to drive, they´re pretty tame until you push them to the limit.
Even though I didn’t even know the real life series before trying this sim, I have to say I like these cars a lot. They´re as durable as WTCC cars but more powerful, a very nice combination.
I wish the DTM cars would be like this

I’m not very familiar with 2PEZ Games.
Do they do a lot of development themselves on the game engine (I see they have added rain at least) or is it pretty much vanilla rFactor with custom content?

They didn’t add rain á la GTR2: you can choose between a dry or a rainy version of the same track AFAIK.
I’d said pretty much vanilla rFactor. And that’s what kept me way from those products.
Until now, that is.

Is INTERLAGOS “scratch made”???
Nice shots.
I will by this title for sure.
Good luck to all involved.

How did they add raindrops then? Surely they modified the game somewhat.

Just a guess: perhaps they licensed the same code that was used back in 2006 with GTR2. Reading some previews, I see now that dynamic grip is announced as feature of the game. So perhaps my assumption about fixed dry/wet was wrong…
So it could well be that is not based solely on the trusty old rFactor as before.

okay I just tried the game and I have say I love it
It is Rfactor but the only car you can choose is the Toprace touring cars. The everything else is rfactor. Interlagos has a lot more detail in the track than before. The handling is great, only problem is if you play the game from the cam outside the car, the engine noise is really quiet, but if you play from any other cam view it is fine. The car really feels sluggish below 3000 rpms. For the post above that could not get the game to work, here is what you have to do. Use the coupon code they email you, and then when it ask you to buy the full version, say yes, and then click on “I have coupon” on the left side of the page. Then put in the same code they emailed you and it will load and the game will work after that.
