Tuttle has announced to release a beta of his Top Gear Test Track for rFactor 2 next week.

Tuttle has announced to release a beta of his Top Gear Test Track for rFactor 2 next week.

A first beta version of the track will be available on Tuesday or Wednesday, until then you can check out a collection of amazing previews, showing off his brilliant work.

Located on the Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey, England, the track is arguably the most famous airfield in the automotive world as it’s regularly featured in BBC’s Top Gear programme to evaluate both cars and drivers.

The scratch-made track will come with seven different layouts, including the one used in the TV-show.

  • Marcel Offermans

A great looking track! Now all this track needs is the Top Gear presenters sitting by the road side!

    • F1Racer

oops, just noticed your post. Ditto then 🙂

  • Roger

That really looks like top notch quality!!

This is actually a very entertaining track to drive with a lot of nice turns!

It is also a perfect track for benchmarking cars vs the leaderboards to see how correct the simulation is! I hope the track is accurate so we can accurately measure car performance!

  • Big Ron

That´s pretty cool. And it does look really nice.

  • Juhan Voolaid

    Two words: top notch.

  • Jordan Meagher

Watch me smash every top gear lap record lol

  • Marcel Penzkofer

It really looks better than the ones in Forza and in Gran Turismo… Nicely done!

    • Nicolas Grignon

      yep, amazing work!

    • Roger

Agreed! And that is a very good achievement for something free of charge(!) compared with multi million buck titles!

Just hope it is as accurate as the one in GT5!

Does anyone know how the track has been made? Is it satellite photo based and scaled or improvised?

      • Tuttle

The track is modeled above a original Dunsfold draw (planar) and checked using a high res aerial map. The scaling is mandatory by the draw. The elevation profile, even if is flat most of the time (it’s an airport runway so climbs and slopes are not welcome…), has been done crossing some different sources from GIS and GPS, and this is good for the first corner which is an Up and Down turn. There are some bumps here and there, based on what I see on onboards.

      • Francesco Kasta

        It looks amazing!

    • hoodge1

You are correct. It looks like the best virtual Top Gear track period we have ever seen. Man this Tuttle has pure talent and looks to have everything accurately in place. rF2 with talent like this is gonna be amazing when it goes gold. The physics/FFB just feel deadly. You really get a workout with the wheel banging in your hands when it reveals bumps and such and when the tires are scrubbing around corners.

I hope Tuttle converts these tracks for Asseto Corsa as well. Asseto Corsa and rF2 = modders heaven. This guy could work for many developers easily, but has said he has no interest in it. Doing it for fun. I’m not complaining.

  • David

Remained me so much scenery from MS Flight Simulator addons screenshots.

never seen Britain so tropical like this 🙂 maybe it’s the global warming hoax!

    • Mario Strada

Looks like England to me. I have gone to the UK several times in the past 20 years and it’s always been this green and lush. The green of the English countryside is usually VERY green. So green it hurts.

    • Richard Hessels

Even Britain has something that looks like summer for a month or so when they are lucky…

    • hoodge1

Ya i heard it rains a lot in England. Hmm maybe that’s why it looks so tropical. lol’s.

  • F1Racer

Looks superb. Cannot wait to benchmark some cars on this.

  • StarFoXySxv550

The marshals need to be replaced with camera men 😛

    • F1Racer

That would be a nice touch 🙂 And Hammond, Clarkson and May stood at the start/finish line with stopwatches 🙂

      • StarFoXySxv550

Isn’t one of rFactors new features that the trackside populations eyes follow you around the track? Would be cool if you could see the camera pivot in replays, and even cooler if you could catch the cameramen giggling after seeing you spinning the Cee-apostrophe-D

      • Marcel Penzkofer

Some amazing ideas here guys! But I’d love it for rF1 and possibly Assetto Corsa aswell! 🙂

  • Theroro29

    Very impressed!

  • Tomas Beha

    VERY impressive, amazing textures!

    • Tomasz Zabłocki

yes, the quality of textures really shines here

  • Martin Keets

    Very nice work

I can’t overstate my appreciation that this track is being done, and to this quality.

  • Woodee

Looks very nice! Top quality textures there!!

  • Ondřej Čada

I really need to save money but it seems that buying rFactor 2 is inevitable now. 😀

    • Anonymous

You haven’t ? rF2 ffb feel still the best among other wip tittle imo.. driving classic F1 in old spa or monaco is pure ecstasy 😀 i can feel every bumps and holes in the tarmac, and I’m using dfgt

  • Anonymous

I’m still not sure is this a render or a screenshot. 🙂
    Yes, it is that good!

  • Luke Russell

The texture work and general attention to detail is mind blowing!

  • Gabriele Bonora

Tuttle, you did a great job, seriously, i’m impressed.

  • Nazirull Safry Paijo

It looks done! Release it already! Shut up and take my money *throws wallet*
