Thrustmaster TH8 RS Shifter – Beta Test Video

Thrustmaster has released a first video of their upcoming TH8 RS shifter, showing the feature-rich piece of equipment in action.

The TH8 RS is  made largely of metal and uses Thrustmaster’s H.E.A.R.T HallEffect AccuRate Technology for increased precision. The shifter can be used both as H-pattern 7+1 unit as well as in sequential mode.

Advanced sim racers can fiddle with plenty of settings as gear shift travel and resistance are fully adjustable. The shifter is connected via USB and supported by all PC simulations that allow usage of more than one controlling device, the shifter is also supported by several Playstation 3 titles.

The TH8 RS will be available starting in October, selling for 149.99€, VirtualR will be having a full review of the unit once it is out.

I will be buying this one. Looks sweet.

hmm… I want more damping. The lever appears a little springy to me. In my car there’s a clear resistance from side to side but it’s not ‘wobbly’.

looks good, though I wish they’d include more resistance in the shifter to make it feel a little more like a real gearbox. I use a sim-gear SST with a replacement shift knob for a bit more weight and throw, and while it’s very fast and precise it’s not very realistic in it’s travel and the ‘clicking’ is a bit annoying… this shifter looks like a step up in the realism department, but probably not worth upgrading to.

7 gears, isn’t that just… too much? I can’t think of a car that uses a 7-speed H-shifter, they all use paddles or a sequential stick.
Of course, if they didn’t have the 7th gear they had to use a “push to go to reverse”-gear, and I guess that wouldn’t be good for the longevity of the shifter…

Single finger shifting, lets hope that is adjustable to be 10x harder to select gears..

  • Steve Farrell

    Yes it is adjustable.

    The new Porsche 911 has a seven-peed manual…

    Ah, didn’t know that!

I have also one for beta testing. For sure on this video, resistance is set at the minimum. You can adjust to light at hard  ;) .

Thrustmaster needs to try to get this to market pronto so I can buy  :-D

How you get picked to test? I wish they would’ve chosen me. Hm, now to think of it maybe I forgotten to register my t500rs wheel. Perhaps they went by that
