Thrustmaster T500 RS – New Firmware & Driver Available

Thrustmaster has released a new driver and firmware for their top-shelf Thrustmaster T500 RS wheel.

While the new driver version solves a problem with saving force effects in the control panel, the new firmware optimizes the self-calibration process and raises the latency to 500hz of the frame rate.

Detailed instructions on how to install the new driver & firmware can be found at the download location linked below.

Pity the firmware cant silence the crappy noisy fans in these units.

I don’t have one of these wheels but how about some Zalman’s to replace them? Should be like $5 per fan on NewEgg.

  • Eliseo

are there any possibility of just get the wheel?? without pedals??

  • Rob

I’d like to know that as well, I have modded G27 pedals that work really well, but just want to replace the wheel with the T500.

Get a Fanatec Clubsport or CSR Elite (works on the X-Box as well) wheel.

All Fanatec wheels works with the G25/G27 pedals using a small adapter.

YOUR fan is defective … I don’t have this issue …

Just get Leo Bodnard G25-G27 usb adapter for your pedals …

Couldn’t agree more, my t500 fan is hopelessly loud – some people can live with it fine (have loud PC’s, etc), but mine is silent so it is horrendous. Had a replacement top sent with new fan – same bad fan noise. In the end, I’ve removed the top casing completely, for good, removed that rubbish little 40mm junk fan and placed a silent 80mm fan with screws big enough to grip the heatsink. Been running it like this for over 6 months now, no noise.

Also, my shifters are not hoding up too well – the chrome finish wares off as if my hands are acidic! Had those replaced and it’s happened again. First time round i assumed it may have been salt from crisps while playing or something laong those lines, so took extra effort to make sure my hands were perfectly clean before touching the wheel, yet it has happened again.

I already have the leo cable with standalone loadcell modded G27 pedals and I’m really happy with them, so just want to update the G27 wheel. Because I’m in Australia it’s impossible to get the CSR Elite, Fanatec don’t sell their products here. I can only find the T500 for sale as a complete wheel and pedal set for around $700, but I only want the wheel not the pedals.

It’s a wheel and pedal kit … there is no other options if you want it brand new … You would not be the first and not the last including myself who bought the kit and swap the pedals …

  • Rob

Yep I’ve searched high and low for just the wheel, but no luck. Will wait to see if the price comes down after xmas. What wheel did you have previously jptoo? From what I’ve read the T500 is a significant upgrade from the G27 wheel.

I used a G25 and then a Fanatec GT3 rs V2 before, it’s a good upgrade but expensive … last year during christmas time there were very good offers on T500 and also on wheel + shifter kits …

  • PRW

His and many others, mine went bad in 2 days, they’re just crappy fans. Not a deal-breaker, just an annoyance.

I think you were just not lucky … Imagine how many T500 wheels were sold around the world vs how many owners have reported fan issues… there will always be some wheels that passes the final testing but with faulty internal components that fails after short period of time… Companies like thrustmaster and logitec doesn’t mess with building quality. I think that If one or more specific fan models would create a very recurent noise problem then that they would take very serious actions to replace these. But I could be wrong as well …

My advice is to clean the paddle shifter after each use. I use an alcohol pad or just clean cloth/paper towel and some hot water. I go to the extreme of wiping the whole wheel including the rims/buttons, housing every night after I’ve used it- it sounds like a lot of effort but it’s less than 2 minutes. I bought mine last xmas and the shifter is still nice and shiny.

Good advice. I will contact TM for some new shifters and keep them in a box, For now I’m thinking of sanding off the chrome finish (not hard at all), and giving them a good coat of paint and finish in black maybe, then if i ever sell the wheel, can put the others on.

This is my first post here, in my opinion the new firmware totally transformed my t500 in rfactor 2.
Having upgraded from my g27 two months ago, the t500 has great ffb and it spins very quickly but I’ve always felt the wheel started counter steering a fraction too late for me to just throw the car into the corner and let the car counter steer itself then grab the wheel when appropriate, like I have to anticipate the slide before hand and start counter steering myself before the wheel does, otherwise I would’ve spun. This kind of put me off, I could feel that the reaction from the wheel was slower than my G27, I did not renew my iRacing account last month because of this. Now , after the firmware update, I enjoy rfactor2 a lot more than before, I didn’t do any test to prove, but that’s what I felt.

Also, I bought the t500 instead of the CSW because of my experience with my CSP, which I’ve given up on because of the random brake drag issue and sometimes the throttle shows 100% when I only press about 50%. I couldn’t fix the problem with unplug and re plug, reinstall firmware, restart my pc, plug into another usb port, sometimes it performs very well but some day it won’t, also the build quality and finishing was not up to logitech or thrustmaster standard, although the material are good.

Reliability seems to still be an issue as many threads have been popping up in iracing forums regarding issues with the CSW base and wheels as well. so I’m taking a gamble buying Fanatec products. thanks for the feedback I’ll try to find some extra info on the new driver and might just cancel the fanatec csw order.

I have to also comment on this driver change now I’ve used it for a few days. The wheel is transformed. The T500, for me, always felt a little sluggish, but since the update it feels significantly better. It’s completely upgraded the feel of my wheel, i mean, it’s not a small change, it’s quite significantly better in my humble opinion. Hope someone will confirm this soon with some data.
