"human eyes have about 60° of fov"

Thats correct, but the problem is on a monitor, its effectivly squashing what we would have in our peripheral into this square box, creating the 'fish bowl' look, which makes things look like they are traveling past you at a quicker rate.

For me a lower FOV around 40-45 looks more realistic in terms of objects/scenery passing by. (like i said, with lower FOV's its better to use trackIR so you can physically look around to see more)

It is hard not to trust a man of his reputation and experience, that GT5 will deliver a realistic feel. I cant wait for the release and to try it somewhere, so I can decide if I'm going for a GT5+PS3 bundle.

pleb: “I think, racing simulators are faster than real life (compared onboard videos).”That’s largly an FOV problem, because most people play on a single monitor, they use high field of vision to be able to see more. The higher the FOV, the more the illusion that you’re travelling faster.
In rfactor, if you set your FOV very low (between 35-45) you’ll notice it feels alot slower to drive (imo more representative of real life),a low FOV with TrackIR (to be able to look around) is fantastic.

ForzaBarca88: You need to simulate real forces + fear factor, thats all. Current physics engines arent that far off.

You need to get a real simulator, something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ORjqqNQFBQ
Of course, what we need is something that can simulate rollover.

Exactly what I've been saying since I started racing for real. We need a true 'next-gen' sim, a new, fresh approach to the race sim genre.

Raikku: Shift’s Nurb-version seem to be quite accurate.

Yes, it's surprising, but in ingame videos Shift looks more realistic feeling than for example Race series. I didn't try yet, I need a new PC for that, but sound seems realistic and car speed feeling too. I think, racing simulators are faster than real life (compared onboard videos).

His best lap time- he only raced approx 40 minutes before the differential on the IS-F began to overheat and failed- was 10min07sec around the relatively wet 25 k Nurburgring GP-Nordschleife track. Pretty good time for an almost stock IS-F. A 911 GT3 RSR (driven by Pro racers) usually lap the route around 8:30 if it's dry, add another minute if it's quite wet (like at this years 24 hr of Nurburgring training run).
