About two weeks ago, I posted a first story on Atari’s upcoming Test Drive Unlimited 2 title that will once again enable racers to freely drive on a very detailed island.
Now, Atari has confirmed initial rumors that the island that will be included in the upcoming title is indeed Ibiza. Located in the Mediterranean Sea, Ibiza is one of the Balearic Islands, a popular tourist destination among Europeans.
The island is 571.04 square kilometers in size and inhabits 114.000 people. That makes the virtual world in Test Drive Unlimited 2 more than two times as big as the Hawaiian Island of Oahu that was featured in the first Test Drive Unlimited title.
Test Drive Unlimited will be coming to the PC, the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 this fall. New features include the brand-new island of Ibiza, vehicle damage, weather and a full 24-hour day & night cycle.

I really, really hope they don’t drop hardcore mode. I wouldn’t be able to live without it.
This is definitely now the game I plan to finish building my PC for though. I had so much fun in the first.

Oahu is 960 square square kilometers. Ibiza is much smaller than Oahu, about half the size. Which is fine, because I thought Oahu was a little large to begin with. This way they’ll be able to make the world/roads more detailed.

I think it has both islands. We’ll be able to fly back and forth. Does that mean each island will need it’s own set of owned cars and houses?

also, the island from the first game had a circuit on it, I hope the new island will have a circuit 2, I like to cruise but also to do some racing…

A couple circuits and a drag strip with a working tree would be great additions. The radio was a good idea but need better music or the ability to play your own music. I remember there were some hacks for that, I never got it to work for me. Also need a good intro like TD5 had.

I’m confused. Atari states its twice the size, yet its nearly 2/3 smaller.
So either they’re wrong (to sell the game and hope no one knows – fail….or…the original game wasn’t too true scale in the first place).
It does state virtual world so the latter maybe true.

I doubt the real Ibiza has nearly as many roads as Oahu. Who cares thought it’s still big enough, plus they will undoubtedly add some 6-lane highways where in the real world there are 2-lane roads, just like they did to Oahu with the first TDU. :)
Also they didn’t have all of the real Oahu roads in the game, downtown Honolulu was missing many streets. Maybe with Ibiza they will get *every* road.
Any words on whether Porsche will make it in this time? That was the big missing brand from TDU.

Bingo! With global warming it must be hard to keep track of those islands. Perhaps half of Oahu is under water by now after all those CO2-rich supercar races.
