TCL Touring Masters Beta 1.4 – Released

Ryan Callan has released a beta of his TCL Touring Masters mod for rFactor, making Team TCL’s excellent Touring Car Legends mod fit for league usage.

Made with full permission from the original creators, Ryan has majorly overhauled the massive mod to allow close and balanced races by removing several car models and balancing the 11 chosen ones.

The massive size of the original mod has been drastically reduced by only including eight skins per car, other features such as brand new sounds have been added. To fully understand the concept behind his changes, make sure to read the provided documentation here and here.

Features:

- Brand new real sounds by Mirko Niemann and Domagoj Lovric (original mod used default rFactor sounds)
- Performance adjustments
- Elimination of any rFm or case-sensitive possible CTDs
- Download size reduced by 75%
- Easier in-game menu for car selection
- 8 skins per car
- 11 car models only
- Upgrades now found as standard (gearboxes for M3 and 190E)
- H-shifter upgrade added
- File paths corrected
- Menu music
- Changed menu background
- More I have forgotten :D

Important: TCL Touring Masters does not conflict with existing TCL installations.

Edit: Download link has been removed as the TCL-Team has not agreed to a public release of Ryan’s work.

Amazing job, sounds are good! I even managed to add more cowbell to Don’t fear the reaper, by use of the ingame menu buttons :D Driving feels fantastic as usual.

    Amazing job indeedd speechhlessss

This would be a really cool mod to have for GTR Evolution. Specially with the Alfa Romeo 75 and BMW M3 already available for it.

I’ve played around with this mod in rFactor. Was always gutted how slow the Toyota Corolla’s were however as that was one of my favourite cars. It just couldn’t keep up with the Fords around Mount Panorama.

  • Siggs

Cool, I’ve been following this mod  Does this version include Some1′s supra shaders on the lights? I know they’re being integrated.

Doesn’t include them yet but hopefully by the final release :)

    Final release is mid-April.

Would love to see a RACE / Evo version…

    Looks really nice.

I would of chose the VL Commodore over the VK, plus the sound for the VK is crap, it’s a bloody insult, and so is the tyre screech, they makes me want to rip my ears out. Should of kept the original audio samples.

Because the Commodore/Mustang et al are heavier, they generate a lot more tyre load, therefore the screech is more pronounced (you will hardly notice it in something like the M3). That is still being worked on and is easily rectified with some more sfx testing. As for the Commy sound, you are the first person to complain lol. What don’t you like about it?

Well first of all, it doesn’t sound anything like the VK Commodore, and being someone who has been around them since the 80′s i think i should know. Secondly, no cars tyres screech like that, especially a VK Commodore, done enough burnout in my time to know the difference. The original mod had the sound done pat.

I was listening until this last sentence – the original mod used default rF sounds – using a 5.7L V8 sample (not even GM-sourced at that). And the external noise was horrendous, sounded like a vacuum cleaner with a sore throat.

I fail to see how the sound can be ‘pat’ when the engine in a VK is a 5.0. Close, but not pat. And the engine sound for the VK in ‘my’ mod came from a VL TWR sample, so that would explain the difference. If we get time we may change the sound. Otherwise it stays.

You’ve clearly only driven the VK, so that gives you a narrow viewpoint to begin with and you are failing to recognise this is a BETA, ie WIP and not finished…..

The tyre scrub noise has been fixed, it was a small error in the sfx file. Thankyou for pointing it out. If you don’t like ‘my’ mod don’t drive it – there’s always the original one (with your pat VL), no-one is forcing, it’s all for free and from our own spare time. A little bit of gratitude is always appreciated however – nothing is ever perfect.

Looking forward to your final release

Well the phrase i meant to have wrote was “Down Pat”, and as any true Aussie would know it means “close to exact”. It’s actually the exhaust that make the sound, motor size doesn’t make that much difference, i could make a 350 Chev sound exactly the same as a 253 or 308. As for the vacuum statement, remember these are carby fed motor’s not fuel injected, they sucked allot of air through an air filter.

I have been around Holden’s for more than 30 years, have driven Kingwood’s, Torana’s and Commodores. I understand that your mod is only still beta but my statement about the sound was spot on, the sound on the original is closer to the real thing, and what you have is nothing like it, but if you can’t accept being proven wrong, then maybe you shouldn’t copy other peoples hard work and insult it with shoddy sounds, even if you do have permission to duplicate it.

The concept of reducing the amount of cars was a good idea, less to download, and if it helps with online racing, that will be another bonus. But if you intend to take someone else’s hard work that probably took them months or a year to do, then show them the curtsy of at least doing a proper job, it’s not like you had to do the whole thing from scratch.

  • Ivo Simons

Maybe you need to accept that not everything can be to your liking and accept that people are doing this in their free time and can’t please everyone.
Feel free to give Ryan a better sound because like you said you are the person who where arround the Holdens for 30 years…

Considering this is meant to be sim racing we should be trying to get as close to real life as possible. Just saying accept it isn’t good enough. Either go for full realism in every way or don’t bother.

  • Ivo Simons

So just one “incorrect” sound completely destroys the realism of the whole mod?

I have no problem your point of view – perhaps you would be so kind as to word your argument less like an arrogant know-all?

If the sounds are deemed unsatisfactory by others then I have no problem with reverting back to the original default rFactor sounds.

Fuzzi0n – go for realism in every way? There are limitations – perhaps you should die when you crash your car head on into a barrier at 180mph? It’s not realistic to do that. For utter realism/anal historical accuracy play the original. This is not what this is about.

So if you can’t find the exact sound or the exact logo or the exact tyre wear on the car you shouldn’t even bother to make the mod?
I’m glad modders don’t think like you do because then we wouldn’t have any mods…

Outstanding! This is way better than the “original” TCL. Will the final version be free to use and host etc as any other mod?

  • RockStar

    1.5 is out…

1.5 is out yes, hopefully the story will be up in a day or so – otherwise head ot RaceDepartment.

And the mod will be free to use and host*, however if used for a league, I would appreciate the courtesy of asking permission, as listed in the readme.

*Free to use to any site aside from those affiliated with SimRaceWay.

Absolutely brilliant stuff! Thanks for all your hard work. It’s great to have a more ‘streamlined’ version of my favourite mod sitting next to the original, so I can use the original offline and this lean, more nimble, more efficient (i.e. bug-free) version online.

I’ve even ported over the sounds from this version to the original – they’re absolutely fantastic, especially the screaming Skyline! I kept the original version of the Mustang and Commodore sounds though, not because they are more accurate, just because I prefer their ‘beefiness’ (the new sounds seem a bit quiet). It’s great to have a choice though!

(See how I worded that last part with a bit of common decency and respect, Pedge? Maybe you could learn something from that.)

  • Harpo245

These arguments are funny because it’s a game.

  • Bullet66

This is killing me!! My PC has been in a box for a week and will be for at least another!! The original TCL was brilliant, I could get drunk on it. This modification sounds perfect. I want more people to try it out. And now with the Perf balancing I can maybe do a season with the AI.

Thanks for putting the effort into this project. I can’t wait to d/l!!

    Thankyou for that :)

    1.4 is not completely bug-free, but 1.5 is! :)

  • Daheee

Ty for the info about V1.5

  • FoolInjection

Has anyone else tried to create an offline season for this mod yet ?

I fancied having a classic world touring car season but when I’ve picked the car set for it in the championship manager program and go into the game it says I don’t have an eligible car. Pretty sure I’m doing it right as its worked before for other mods.

Totally don’t understand what’s going on.

  • Sausage_Smuggler

Redhawk: Thankyou for that :)1.4 is not completely bug-free, but 1.5 is! :)

    Why do you lie?

It just crashes my rFactor to my desktop, which just happens to be a picture of Mr Callan bent over the teachers desk.

Oh isnt he getting spanked roughly :O
