S.Beuchert has made a big bunch of preview shots of the Targa Florio for Grand Prix Legends, showing us a lap around the longest virtual track ever made.
Located on the Italian Island of Sicily, the 72 kilometer track is one of the most epic motorsport race tracks ever used. As safety concerns became an influence in international motorsports, the Targa Florio sports car race lost its world championship status and is still run as an Italian rallye today.

Wow, looks great. Damn, it’d take a looooong time to memorize this track. It’s like 3 times Nordschleife.

Sorry but in all the screenshots, shouldn’t the crowd be looking the other way- towards the approaching cars. And unlke the north where the people are much taller, Sicilians are usually not as tall (or as they say it in italian, quite short). This especially true in the 50s and 60s and from what I can see this is set around that time period. But again the crowds in these screenshots could be tourists.

they’re two sided, like crowds in every racing game, and do you really expect him to get the right heighted people? the track is 72k, he’s got better things to do than make sure the crowd is correctly heighted…

You should rather buy GPL then

I really wish this was coming out for a sim I can actually PLAY! GPL has never worked right on my system. The sound is screwed, and the picture randomly corrupts.

Go to http://gplmz.bcsims.com/ and make an account and post your system specs along with a detailed description of exactly what the problem is. I’m 100% positive that the GPL community can help you get the game running in all it’s glory without a hitch. Simply installing GPL isn’t an option anymore. There is a new installer that you need to use, and I also highly recommend you use GEM+ 2, because it’s the best way to keep your mods sorted and keep GPL running correctly without mod conflicts. It all sounds way more of a hassle than it really is. It’s a snap.
I was ignorant of all these things the last time I installed GPL, but I went to that site, signed in, asked a question or two, and I was up and running with tons of tracks and mods in less than 2 hours. Don’t let some simple errors keep you from enjoying this sim.

I’m not quite sure the background info on this is right. First, Targa Florio is/was NOT a track, but rather one of the old marathon road races, which were one of the first form of motorsports: these events were run on PUBLIC roads, good examples would be Paris-Bordeaux-Paris of 1894 or the Carrera Panamericana races: Targa Florio was simply a big loop around public roads. Second, Targa Florio is still run today, but it’s not a rally but rather a vintage car event: only cars that raced in Targa are allowed to enter I think. Maybe the ‘Targa Florio rally’ (never heard of that) got confused with the Mille Miglia rally, which is still run today, both as an Italian Rally Chamionship/European Rally Championship event and as a vintage car event: the Mille Miglia Storica?

Fantastic work.
This track for rfactor or the Race-series would be awesome. How difficult is a conversion from GPL to rF or something?

xilix: This is with the installer program that you can download. It’s not really worth the effort involved for just one track. I’ve moved on from GPL and there’s just too much faffing around with GEM and everything for my tastes these days.

If only Sierra would open the sourcecode for Grand Prix Legends.
The Game is so old and as Sierra has stopped producing Nascar-Series, the also dropped Papyrus… Back in the time when Sierra made games like Space Quest III, I loved them, now I can’t stand them..

Is there something like that for RBR? I really have trouble with it freezing randomly. I’d love to play the RSRBR 2009 mod, but the freezing is annoying.
Thanx in advance.

Give your self a break with RSRBR, Wally’s Plugin will take you online with 3 key presses. The only trouble is you have to install new cars manually.
Here’s the list of cars available:

Same for me. After a minute or 10 my RBR always freezes. Think it has something to do with the sound. But even when I use my few years old SoundBlaster, which is practicaly made for games, I have these problems.

Going online is not the problem. Random freezing is my problem. Or did I get you wrong?
Tried it on 2 completely different systems with the same result. And I can not find anything about the freezing problem on the net.
