It’s done! The much anticipated Targa Florio for Grand Prix Legends has been released, adding the the world’s longest race track to the historical racing simulation.
Located on the Italian Island of Sicily, the 72 kilometer track is one of the most epic motorsport race tracks ever used. As safety concerns became an influence in international motorsports, the Targa Florio sports car race lost its world championship status and is still run as an Italian rallye today.
Below are four videos, showing a full lap around this epic track. Follow the link below to get to a very detailed release-page that includes all needed information and download links.
Important: To use this track, you must have the latest Grand Prix Legends patch installed.

Beautiful job! I bet the Sim drivers wheel wasn’t on that degree of rotation! Kudos to every one that spends 100-200 hrs. conquering it! P.S. Dumb spectators really did stand at the edges of the track like that, and often got killed. Hence todays closed circuits.

So would this be the longest track ever created for a racing-sim now? Is there such a record?
Anyway, I think we need a conversion to rFactor.

There is now.
As for this in rF…. Not bloody likely. And thankfully so, let the legends live in their proper enviroment, don’t ruin another GPL Masterpiece.

The problem is the “legends” didn’t race at this track – its not their proper environment. There is logic in having this track available for other platforms such as GTL, GTR2 for P&G and rF for WSC70.
Having said that I do think people should run this track in GPL initially if only as a mark of respect for the achievement of GPLs modding community.
As posted before, GPLs advantage is its age – this track is only 60Mb in standard form. VirtuaLM Le Mans is 100 Mb and its only 1/5th the length of the Targa. If it is possible to run the Targa on more modern sims it will require a powerful PC.

Wouldn’t the ‘Legends’ proper environment actually be running this track with the cars available in the PnG mod or HistorX? Yeah – I think so; don’t think any Lotus 49s competed at the Targa Florio.
GREAT effort to those involved (I’m not really advocating ‘ripping/converting’ whatever, just responding to the comment above). Amazing to think 11 years later there is still effort on this sim. Drove it a little last December and it was still awesome.

Whole lot of respect to the modders. This is a real milestone. But it’s sad that most simracers are unlikely to ever try it. Me included :( It looks like some GTL fans would like to keep it exclusive to their little ‘club’.
On the other hand, even if permission is granted it would take quite a long while to convert THAT. Targa Florio for rF2 seems like a better idea.

would you look at the wheel on the car being sawed off…lol… if it was a real car you would need to be the 6 million dollar man to keep up with it all…i have seen less wheel movement in the WRC.. anyway.. good job on the track..

I hope the moders are working already a rfactor conversion! if not I hope they give permission to do so!
