Following the release of the Superstars V8 Racing Xbox 360 demo version, the PC demo of Black Bean Games & Milestone’s latest racing title. The demo version lets everyone try a race at the Portuguese Portimao circuit, race length, difficulty level and weather conditions can be configured as you wish.
In related news, DrivingItalia.net has published an extensive review of the title, source of the screenshots below. If you can understand Italian, the review is very well worth a read!
Officially licensed by the European Superstars Championship, the title will include all cars and tracks of the Italian series. That includes popular race cars like the Audi RS4, the BMW M5 and other V8-powered machinery that races on Italian tracks as well as at Portimao and Kyalami. Superstars V8 Racing has been announced to be released in June 2009 for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and the PC.

Max resolution on my PC is 1152×864 and my native is 1280×1024 – both far from high res… Can’t get my Logitech DFGT working with it, even though the readme says it is supported..

crap crap crap……. If your gonna release a game on pc and at the same time have it sell you need to add ….FULL…(G25 with pedals) support for the latest pads and wheels, and since the majority of pc owners run steering wheels you’d think the latter would be essential to any driving sim.
I might add this seems to be the norm with all black bean games ……my advice to you is don’t bother downloading definately not worth the bandwith.

Okey, i downloaded it:
Using keyboard, aids on, i managed to beat the lap record – i’m not even close to be an alien in simracing..
… And wtf is cluster, mustard, barricade and scorpio – couldn’t they even get the right licenses?
Ps. and what is up with the non working “up” key? … pff.

What idiot publisher tries to sell a “true” PC simrace title without g25 support.
So i can rule out it will work with my g25 combined with loadcell pedals & seperate shifter.
Maybe somebody wakes up before the final release.

What a shitty game. I really expected more from this.
The graphics are ok, so are the models (except the 2D rims
), but the physics are really terrible. This even sucks as an arcade racer. It’s just no fun. At all.
And how come that even with a Xbox 360 controller you can only turn left or right fully or not at all? There is no half steering.
Also, wheel support is just pathetic. A ThrustMaster F430 doesn’t work either. You guys can add that to your loooong list

This is hopeless, it fails miserably even as an arcade racer. The only good thing are 3D models. A shame that an interesting race series license was bought to create this joke of a game.

yep this is a hyperfail.
To bring out a so-called racing sim without support for one of the most popular wheels out there is marketing suicide.
On that basis, Im not even going to bother looking at this. I can only imagine what other discrepancies there are if they can’t even get wheel support right.
Thats what you get when you console port and combine it with laziness.

Damn, I went to call it crap and it said crap wasn’t supported….. What a joke, drives like soap in a wet bath, uses COMBINED pedals!! No support for G25, why even bother making the bloody thing? I try not to be negative about things if possible, but it’s just unavoidable with this title.

They don’t really put much priority on anything other than getting it to run on XP and Vista. Everything else is literally on the “to patch if we ever feel like it” list. Just look at motoGP 08, SBK 08…. fantastic sims, but you have to hack the damn game in order to use any type of real gamepad with separate axis’s. Once you do that, both titles are awesome, but really, honestly, how long would it take one talented programmer to fix that one little issue? An hour? Maybe two?
Anyway, yeah, they’re going to get their Xbox paycheck and that’s why they made the game. Any Xbox title = CH-CHAAANG!
But come on, honestly, are you really expecting any good racing titles to come out from Codemasters, Blackbean, Milestone or any of the usual console developers? I’m just waiting for RF2, and anything else on the way is just a snack that doesn’t satisfy my hunger.

Guys, if you want to play a fun arcade racer, try Ferrari Virtual Race (free) or better yet Sega Rally Ravo (really cheap!). Refreshingly simple games not pretending to be sims, arcade in purest form but with handling that actually makes sense. Trust me, Sega Rally with its mind-blowing, kilometer-long slides and deforming road surface is simply fun if you approach it with an open mind and adjust your expectations. A little guilty pleasure of mine

Little disappointed with the demo… Despite claiming to support the Driving Force Pro wheel, I’m unable to configure it in the options!
Graphically, it looks quite nice.
The demo track looks quite a nice layout, with a few elevation changes (why is there such a high tendancy for new tracks to be so flat and bland).
Nice to see some track cutting detection (five seconds without full throttle if I recall rightly).

Very weird situation, if you think that Milestone was one of the better production houses in the past. Tough the same thing is happening to other companies. Its like a fast food industry. Just have a quick go at some money. God bless the mod scene ( and iRacing ;-)

Lets you enable force feedack, but gives you no option for steering wheel ?
DFP doesn’t even register in the game
Someone has really dropped a Bol**ck on this one
Lets release a demo to promote our shiney new game, but all it does is highlight that its utter crap even with ’simulation’ settings selected
Whats that all about ?

Update: THE DEMO DOES WORK WITH THE DFP WHEEL…
In logitech profiler global options: Set wheel into combined pedals mode; set wheel lock degrees to less than 540 degrees; perhaps enable centring spring; perhaps add damper and spring effects
As the demo starts up, press the “X” (or was it the “O” button?) on the wheel, in order to move the intro on, instead of using your keyboard.
Then go into options> controllers (using POV switch on wheel)and change control mode to “joystick” from default “keyboard.”
Use the POV switch on your wheel to moe the highlighter; use “O” on the wheel to configure an action; “/_\” on wheel to cancel/go back ;)

If you think the game is pants, that’s all well and good, nobody can tell you what your opinion is on any given subject.
However, to quote my entire post and write what you did implies that I was lying about getting the demo to work with my Driving Force Pro.
When I first tried the demo this morning, I could not get the wheel to work in any shape or form. When I had another quick attempt and changed a few things, I got it working absolutely fine with my wheel…

yeah, first guy Ive known to have a period.
Its hardly a cheat code either. Novel has 1 ‘l’ too btw. 2 ‘l’s make it an operating system.
NOTGoat: Good info man. Doesnt help us G25 users of course
but Im sure you’ve made some people happy.
Its a shame really as the game really looks not to be worth it.
Its just a straight console port-over. No attention given to PC users at all. I`ll bet this thing runs on all the gamepads going.
No cockpit mode ? Another typical console trait. (NFS:S will kick that tradition up the ass)
No cockpits or steering wheel support. LOL. Someone’s in it for the money only. No passion at all.
Makes you wonder if the big companies really ought to be tackling this genre.

June 21st, 2009 at 11:52
No cockpit and trouble with wheel(s) support are the least of this game problems.
As I mentioned, the physics are totally useless (CMR DiRT is a sim compared to this) but also the content is pretty much worthless, the only licensed cars are BMWs, Audi and Jaguar, the rest are masked-off fantasy makes (so far I reckognized Mercedes C, Cadillac CTS (CTS-V?) and Chrysler 300C).

After trying the full version and managed to get my DFGT working with it (Thanks N0body Of The Goat!), I must say it is not worth even free downloading it. The physics are arcady, graphics are blurry and muddy, sounds are crap, controls too, FFB is ridiculous and the game totally misses the “fun factor”.. What a waste..
Racer_S

it does support G25, you must use combined pedals and just hold the clutch half way when assigning controls.
