“Not available in North America and Japan”.

I presume the AI’s on a pretty easy setting, (I skipped ahead through to the actual race), but this looks pretty good really. I like the way the field jostles for position.

  • NielsP

How can he use g25/g27 on the xbox?
    - it defo looks like a logitech wheel… :??:

  • michael

Yes he says he is on easy in the video.

And to answer the 2nd question the article says “Below is a hands-on preview video of the title made by VVV Gamer, showing the Playstation 3 version of the title in action”

Racing line, ai, physics looks terrible. Everything is fine.

  • speedfreak968

Looks great, but… does those cars have a suspension? It looks to me like he is driving a hoover craft… and the way the car slides and wonders on straights, same thing we had in the previous title…

That’s what you get if you choose easy for everything

heh, whats a hoover craft ? :) Not only is it amphibious but it`ll clean your carpets too !

Seriously though, its not looking too bad for a console game. Clearly the PC version will be a console port which is where the sim factor goes out of the window.

Again as with many racing releases of late, I dunno how interesting this will be to the serious sim racer so it will get put down for not meeting their expectations, but considering that these things have to aim for mass market, this doesn’t seem to do a bad job at all.

I’ll give the PC demo a go when it comes out. This looks more promissing than the original. The steering problems down the striaghts etc looks to be more down to his settings. As he said he could barely turn the wheel as his steering lock settings or the wheels rotation setting had not been adjusted properly.

The Ai seem to interact with each other well. Passing and giving room yet making minor mistakes. The suspension is a little harder to tell. It doesn’t seem to react much when he made excursions onto the grass, but that maybe more a visual problem. Without feeling the FFB response to surface changes it is impossible to judge and the cars didn’t seem that floaty to me.

I’ll keep an open mind until I’ve tried it. They have good pedigree with the SBK games so I’m sure they want to succeed in this catagory even it takes a few attempts.

While I still have to try the demo for sure, I’d say judging from the video its another piss poor job by Black Bean & Milestone. The cars just don’t look to be moving realistically. No suspension movement as mentioned above and the “hovercraft” shit just like in grid. There was also no change when the car was off track… wtf? Another joke title. You guys need to find another genre because you just can’t make racing games.

scca1981: .You guys need to find another genre because you just can’t make racing games.

Y’know I prefer to see this in another way. I think as we will always have slim pickings in this community as to what we can play to keep us satisfied, I would rather Black Bean didn’t give up and find another genre.
I would rather they kept at it if they are willing to, in the hope that in time, they can produce something that can satisfy the majority of us even if it takes a couple of attempts.

Certainly considering we only have a handful of sims to play around with I wouldn’t want them, or any other company, to stop trying just cos they don’t hit the nail on the head straight away. I mean Blimey! knows what we want and crave for and I don’t think they hit the sim racer with a blinder when they did Shift, so maybe Black Bean needs cutting a little slack.

Again I’m growing ever tired of this negative outlook and attitude towards everyone or every company that does’nt produce the goods to satisfy the serious simmer just because it has 4 wheels and a steering wheel. There is a bigger market than us that they aim for. We are not being catered for solely here regardless of how many times they might throw the word ‘simulator’ around. Thats marketing. It simulates, regardless of its physics accuracy.

iRacing, as accurate as you can want it… real world data on the cars (great), laser scanned tracks (brilliant)….. but they want you to pay for their service which must cost them to run…. bang! it got slagged off.

RTR, real time racing with real drivers in real time.. (are you kidding me ? In our little community we can have this technology?) .. aah! slagged off again, although not by as many though. Thankfully we realise that this is a new kind of technology.

SimRaceWay, brilliant concept, although flawed by dubious business practice on their part when seeking permissions from mod teams. Nevertheless, the idea of it is great. Almost boycotted instead of getting sorted diplomatically.

I dunno what it is about this community that makes it so quick to judge, criticise and bite the hands that feed us (or at least try to).
If it carries on like this, no-one will bother any more then it will console arcade racers only unless ISI hang on to us and even they are getting the boot put in now and again because no-one knows when rF2 is coming.

Anyway sorry I’m droning on again.

Just to stick to the topic of the game.. I played the Superstars V8 (the first game) while downloading Next Challenge-demo.. and when I started playing the demo I realized that it handles the same and almost looks the same too.. the only big difference is the new damage-motor.. But you still can´t make parts fly off from the car.. but on the other hand.. you are not suppose to smack up the car.. But the game is still the same, unfortuneatly.. I was getting my hopes up for this game.. but I won´t bye this game when it is released.

You never played Screamer 2 by Milestone? Sure it was pure arcade, but a damn fun game all the same.

  • ForzaBarca88

Jury’s still out but that video makes me NOT want to try the demo….

I probably will tho, sim titles or even wannabe sim titles are only going to get rarer. Atleast on the PC anyway.

  • scca1981

F1Racer… I’m not saying they have to make a die-hard sim. Personally i’m not even looking for another true sim. rFactor2 will cover that just fine. I’m just looking a game where the car performs a little more like a car. It doesn’t have to be completely realistic but at least a little bit believable.

  • http://racingrenders.com F1Racer

Well that’s fine, but at least try this yourself before you judge from that video.
If you get some enjoyment from it and you have rF/GTR2/Evo/LFS/iRacing etc to fall back on for more of a serious sim, then surely its no bad thing.

  • Skillcoil

The game physics feel like other console racing games (SuperCar Challenge).

    But I noticed something else

The engine sound goes weird when you change gears .. in other words “unrealistic”

  • RKipker

anyone figure out how to D/L in US?

Some sim racing fans are just snobby. Its so funny that some simmers wont be seen dead playing an unrealistic ‘video game’, yet the experiences we have today on home computers were being done in the arcades nearly 20 years ago when some of our PCs still had Green screens. See Virtua Racing 1992.
IMO, rfactor is still closer to an old arcade game, than it is to real life. Unfortunately the truly immersive and reactive sims are about $20 million, e.g the McLaren F1 team. If anyone has one of those, by all means get snobby about it

We have a Daytona USA twin sit down cab in our garage. We bought it in 2001 for a song and nothing beats that baby for fun or atmosphere. I don’t care that its not realistic or the graphics are now so dated. She goes back to 1994. At that time many of us were into F1 Grand Prix at work on a 386 PC, 14″ monitor with keyboard and beep beep speaker.
The Arcade tech was so way ahead of our IBM PCs. Her force feedback steering wheel and pedals are still as strong today as 16 years ago.
It was probably a good 10 years before I was anywhere near as happy with the PC as a racing experience. Until I find $20 million piece of hardware for less than a months salary, I’m happy to be entertained to any kind of racer.
