Jessica, Darin & Shaun of Insidesimracing.tv have unveiled what was shown covered up at the end of the last InsideSimRacing episode and it’s Logitech’s brand new G27 steering wheel indeed.
This special report reviews the brand new wheel and to make it even more special, the guys use Simbin’s upcoming RACE On to give Logitech’s newest product its first spin. Enjoy!

Nice review, nice wheel, but I’m sticking to my G25 for now.
Like they said, no need to upgrade if your G25 still works good, and mine does.
And Simboots will make you look like a tool.

Jessica’s outfit gets smaller with each episode. At this rate, in three or four episodes’ time, she’ll be doing it in a bikini.
Also, it’s not a “predecessor to the G25″, love, it’s a “successor”. Bless.
And Simboots? Seriously?

G27 seems good. One thing that really disappointed be A LOT is the lack of sequential stick shift mode! That’s how I’m using my G25 80% of the time! How am I going to race my beloved GT cars now?
It not like anyone’s gonna have any objections to that

as much as i like my G25, i think that the Logitech marketing people screwed this one up bigtime. You would have expect them after al the g25 years to bring out a wheel that stands appart from the G25, so you have all your G25 owners run to the shop for the new model. i think this is not going to happen when adding a few buttons and a shift light. ( however nice that is ) i cant see allot of people spending 300 euros to replace their G25. For that money you by the coolest button and lights addon 5 times.
a missed opportunity i guess. My boss would fire me if i came up with that sort of marketing.
Never the less, if you are looking for a new wheel , its probably the best value for money. The G25 was , and is a great wheel. i can only expect the G27 to be the same.
PS: I just hope that as usual in a development plan , they did not produce it with cheaper parts.

In Race07 the G27 was already added a long time ago. In .rcs this was retrievable in April already:
G27 Led range low=”0.81000″ // Min: 0.00, Max: 1.00, Default: 0.81
G27 Led range high=”0.96000″ // Min: 0.00, Max: 1.00, Default: 0.96

I wouldn’t even get this 27 if my 25 died today… I would either buy another NEW 25 or try something new, a Fanatec wheel – it would probably be the Fanatec-solution.
No Sequential shifter? WTF! Mark: GT-cars, Rally, Touring, some LMPS. This is a huge let-down.
Seriously… Look at the Logitech PC-wheel upgrade-level from MOMO to G25 and then from G25 to G27.
MOMO (PC wheel) DFP (PS2, mainly) G25 (PC, mainly) DFGT(PS3, mainly) and G27 (PC, mainly) MOMO – G25 HUUUUGE step forward. G25 – G27 Tiny, tiny step forward and can even be discussed as a step backwards due to the loss of sequential shifter.
“If you have a G25 – don’t buy G27″ loose quote, I know.
If you haven’t got a G25, but want a good wheel – buy a cheaper, new G25 or a Fanatec wheel.
If you’ve got too much money – buy a Frex wheel :D
And coffee? Please???
Jessica did well though, even spotted Laguna Seca ;D And yes sex sells and who cares anymore?

Helical gearing is a big plus but the deletion of a sequential shifter blows. I bet you could plug the old G25 shifter into the new wheel to get a sequential shift. But why would anyone upgrade from a G25 to a G27 when the 911 GT3 RS is available with drastically better pedals.

Hmmmm, I’m a little surprised about the small evolution of the wheel and the devolution of the shifter. I’ve been thinking about upgrading my DFP and the G25 was my most likely choice due to it’s low price although I would consider pushing upto a Fanatec GT3 RS.
I was waiting to see what the G27 had to offer and for how much. As it is similarily priced to the Fanatec wheel I probably wont go for it. Firstly my main reason for wanting to upgrade is better pedals. G25 would be good enough and the Fanatecs even better. Stronger FFB is a given with all 3 so that wouldn’t massively affect my choice. My main issue is I like to have sequential shifting. H pattern is fine if I’m playing GTL or something more road based, but when I’m racing GT’s or Touring cars I want sequential. This has put the G27 out of the game for me. I know the Shifter is an additional expense with the Fanatec, but it atleast has both in seperate units, but if I can’t push all the way upto that price band then the G25 will be my choice.
I never use paddle shifter except the rare occasions I run F1 mods in rFactor. The paddle shifters on my DFP are used for looking sideways in the cockpit and if they work independantly of the shifters control on the G25/Fanatec wheels then I’ll continue to use that method.
It’s good to see that they have listened to comments about some of the G25’s weeknesses and have worked these changes into the G27, but making the shifter only H Pattern and the big price difference for not much more is a pity.
For me the G25 will still be a big improvement for me from my still decent and enjoyable DFP.
Well done SRT for keeping our fingers on the pulse and for the lovely Jessica raising it (my pulse that is!!).

August 17th, 2009 at 16:12
That was the first thing I thought when I saw the new pedals.
Anyway, as I have said before this is a pretty disappointing effort from Logitech. Even if my G25 does break, the lack of sequential shift means I will search for another G25 if it does.

I wouldn’t buy Fanatec, because I have Playseat Evo and and you cannot attach Fanatec to it properly, as you can do with G25(and G27, I guess).

August 17th, 2009 at 18:53
Fanatec can make a smart move and make their Shifters compatible with any wheel, just like their pedals? would be very nice, to have some options
I never tried them, but from the videos I’ve seen, the H pattern one looks way more solid than the G25/27, hopefully the same for sequential.
Anyways, it looks like that if we make enough noise, the Logitech will listen to it, which is Great!

You’re forgetting to factor in American weight standards. Ideals change from country to country.
Anyway speaking of Americans, you think you have it hard, our G27 is £329.99 ($538) according to Logitech direct order, (never mind exchange rates lol) The UK site is still very badly overpriced and they haven’t bothered to fix it for years.
More-over, the UK generally sucks for sim-racing. (which makes no sense, with our history) There’s no point talking about Fanatec where I am, the availability and value is not even in the same league as the G25 after postage and even with the price rise, the G27 still remains better than anything Fanatec I can get my hands on for the same price.
That is, I’ll know when I get a proper retail price for the G27.
The G27 is a definite buy though, my 6 month old G25 sequential is broken anyway so I have no loss of functionality by upgrading.

Leave Jess alone – she’s perfect just as she is :)
The Logitech solution looks simpler and with the lead time involved in a production item its unlikely Nils’ kit was around when they designed the changes.
SRT say the FF central deadzone is better than the G25 but SimHQ say its still there.

August 17th, 2009 at 20:00
No, you should delete, I never have installed a Logitech Driver ever (and have a lot of Logitech products) and as a result they work great.
*Edit: Damn, my G15 keyboard uses drivers (for the screen) and so does the G5 mouse, but my Logitech ChillStream and G25 don’t have any drivers installed.
*Edit 2: About Jessica, why mind the outside. She appears to be reasonably smart and likes sim racing, so she’s welcome in my house any time (if she ever happens to be in Holland (for some drugs :P)). I prefer a good conversation over a good body (well, okay she can’t be like really ugly because of her own fault (make up, haircut, clothing that sort of thing)…

I doubt that its worth upgrading the driver. I never see any worthy changes in the newest driver for my G25 which I have almost 3 years.
Bad move to delete the driver for the G25. Its pointless to have the wheel if you dont have the driver case you wont get 900 degrees and other adjustments for the wheel.

The only advantage to the profiler is if you want custom settings for every game. For example multiple rFactor installs. I leave me wheel at 900 for all mods so I have no need for the profiler. It is just another useless app to have running in the background.
I have made multiple attempts to join Logitech’s developer program thinking I may be able to write an app that would change the steering lock and then launch rFactor or any game for that matter but they never responded to my application. I have tried multiple times without a response.

Some of you guys on here are truly messed up in the head at times, I believe. Ok, yes, Jessica is a pretty girl, but what does she have to do with SRTs review of the G27 wheel besides being a host for the show? Nothing, so drop the comments about her already will you?Now about the G27, as mentioned in the video, it is more of a “evolution” instead of a “revolution.” Look at the upgrades between the Driving Force Pro, and the Driving Force GT. You see nothing dramatic besides some buttons added to the wheel itself, and the wheel diameter changed.
With that being said, now go on to look at the differences between the G25 and the G27. They added 6 buttons to the wheel itself due to popular demand, added a much more positive feel to the h-shift, and with that came the loss of the sequential shifter. Which to me isn’t that big of a deal because I used the shifter paddles and h-shift only. They also reworked the pedals a little to better fit the drivers who like to use the heel-toe technique instead of rpm matching with the throttle pedal.
Now after you actually compare the differences between the Driving Force Pro\Driving Force GT vs. the G25 and g27, you’ll actually notice that they changed much more on the G27 than they did with the Driving Force GT. Also take into account the global economy right now. I’m sure it is much easier on Logitechs pocket book to better refine an already proven product instead of creating something entirely new, and having to put it into full production as well along with the G25.
Since the two wheels have many interchangeable parts, I wouldn’t be totally surprised if they both came off of the exact same assembly line, or at least out of the same facility. For all you know, maybe if they ever get into the G30 series, you might see something from them that is truly revolutionary. But until then, be grateful that they took our(the consumers) feedback, and put it into the G27 to fix a lot of common problems that the G25 had. So don’t bitch every time you don’t get everything you want, but be thankful that they at least fixed what most of us wanted.
For those of you out there who were expecting the world out of this thing, and all under a 300.00 price tag, your crazy. If your that hardcore into sim racing, than save your money(like I did), and purchase a Frex, or ECCI wheel. Until then, quit your bitching. Anyways, I’m done rambling, I have to work at 6:00am Central Time, and it is already 2:35, so I’m going to bed.

I apologise for my comment about Jessica. I dont mean to hurt anybodys feelings.
Back to the G27. I think the changes are good but if you have a G25 already ad its working perfectly then its not worth buying the G27. Another thing I see is people saying theres a deadspot in the G25 but I dont have that deadspot in my G25.
Still I have my G25 with almost 3 years now and I want to change my wheel for something better with pedals I can use left foot braking. The pedals in my G25 are too close together to use left foot braking properly. I never use the H-Shifter , just the paddle shifter. The extra buttons on the wheel would be very welcome but not worth buying a G27.
I will be buying a Fanatec wheel. Im not sure if all Fanatec wheels are compatable with the Xbox360 , but if not I will buy the Fanatec wheel thats compatable with the Xbox 360.

Rob perhaps you could moderate some of the replies in this thread, the line of decency has been crossed here big time?
I’m embarresed by the tone and the infantile level of some of these posts, I’d think your time was better spent cleaning your rooms or running with newspapers instead of showing your immaturity on a public forum where adults discuss simracing.
The people at SRT are doing frontline duty to move simracing forward, they are putting themselves on the line for YOU… and this is the thanks and the respect they get. Christ.

Mikkel, open your eyes, simracing is no longer for mature adults (how does that alone make anyone better I wonder, by the way), there’s a fair share of smug fanboy trolls here as well.
My comment might have been deplorable: as a person involved in motorsport in real life I’m simply fed up with grinning ‘bodies for hire’ who always seem to stick around annoying everyone save for few ‘playboy’ racers and photographers. I guess I threw Jessica in the same bag, which was pretty stupid of me, I admit.
Still, it really is hard to not pay attention to her. Think of it what you will.
Darin, any chance of Simracing 101 or Project Simracer returning to SRT?

I´ve removed the two body-weight comments since they were indeed completely out of line and added nothing valuable to the discussion about the G27.
Furthermore, when complementing someone on certain bodyparts, could we please stick to a little more tasteful words than “tits” in the future? Give the nature of the contant on this site, it might be read by fairly young readers… please keep that in mind.

Good on ya montaya. Not all of us are basement dwelling trolls who get angry at the mere sight of beautiful women and feel a need to tear them down. I don’t know if the angry nerds have noticed but motorsports and sim racing is not a “mature” hobby.” Every minute you spend “racing” can be better spent reading a book, watching a classic movie, exercising, or going outside and appreciating nature. Motorsports itself is wasteful with all the resources wasted on races and don’t get me started on how we should all be driving Smart cars and priuses instead of our sports cars. If this is what you want, you can have it.
Now for the wheel, I think the g27 is a great deal. It continues to make the g2x line one of the best values in its segment of the industry. It might not be enough to upgrade but I’m glad the wheel is there if my g25 breaks down. If someone wants more in a wheel, there’s always ECCI and Frex. Of course the g27 was never meant to compete with those offerings.
As for sequential shifting, I never used it so I don’t care.
