Simbin has quietly announced another project as the website of the Swedish developer now lists another codename project – Jakob.
Just like with RACE On’s codename TOAD, the community can once again start guessing what this title will be about. If we learned anything in the past though, it’s that these names can’t really be connected with the content of the upcoming title in any way.
The sole bits of info on Jakob is that the title is planned to be released for the PC in 2009.

I hope too this will bring a new license, maybe with their Lizard engine: fingers crossed!

It actually does say it’s for the PC. If you look at the drop down list under game titles, it says “(PC)” next to Codename Jakob.

oh god, i hate it. They announce a new title but won’t tell you what it will be… Don’t like that kind of news.

Uff, I should imagine this is the 2nd of the Addons for GTR Evolution that they had said we’d be getting.
So I doubt we’ll be seeing Lizard on the Pc until next year to be honest as a major title for them.
I may be wrong though.
Wonder what this series will be

Guess it will be WTCC 2009 or something.

Whoops! I didn’t remember about that, my fault.
Well, let’s wait and see then.

I`m not to excited yet, considering what TOAD turned out to be. Hopefully its ALMS, but I doubt it.

haha another crappy addon for sure , gtfo simbin!

It´s clear a lot of simmers don´t want a new race simulator anymore.
(Pointing at Vkt and xilix). Don’t understand why you’re moaning as the add-ons from Simbin are kinda cheap and you don’t have to buy it.
I think this is not a Race07 addon, as the codename is not an animal.

April 6th, 2009 at 21:50
Could be an animal called Jacob ?

Or named after the Cracker
Making it an Animal Cracker ?

I may be wrong mate
Anyway it’s getting hard to keep up with Simbins titles at the moment
I certainly don’t mind new content from Simbin either way

I wonder if that’s Jakob as in Creutzfeldt-Jakob.

Going to be an expansion, that’s for sure. I just hope this is going to be a bit more exiting than what TOAD turned out to be. Still hoping for BTCC + its supporting series but that would probably just to good to be true. Whatever it is, it’s good to see Simbin keeps ‘em coming. Looking forward to it.

Why do you think it’s an add-on? It doesn’t have an animal as codename like Evo, STCC and Race On.

Ok a quite hunt around on google for “Jakob” and i found this site http://www.jakobebrey.com/ latest pics show Brands Hatch BTCC and support cars

Well, the Simbin website lists Jakob for 2009. I just don’t think that we’ll see a Lizard based game on PC in 2009, it’s just too early to expect that, maybe 2010/2011. Plus, Simbin already said that they plan _several_ more expansions _after_ GTR Evo and STCC. That’s why I concluded it must be an expansion. I could be wrong, though.

It’s true that a release in 2009 is a short time span for a small devteam. But maybe they’re working on it for a year already :).

whoopi do…….. more crappy yank tanks that handle like a bus on roller skates and unheard of before yank tracks where you just seem to race around in an endless, circle if it’s the same as race on I wouldnt even bother.
if I wanted to race around in a cirle I’de buy a copy of arca sim racing so unless it’s formula 1, rally or btcc plus the english tracks I’me not really bothered.
and I appologise now to our american cousins…who like that sort of thing, sorry thats my opinion and I’me sticking to it

It must be something to do with “Lost”…
Seriously though, I don’t get people bitching about Simbin. If you’re ISI fanboys, you’re hopeless and supporting a title with crap AI and even crappier FFB. (When a third party has to write an app to get decent FFB, you screwed the pooch big time.)
TOAD was a somewhat disappointing announcement, but again, this doesn’t follow the animal scheme. I reckon it HAS to be the first Lizard based sim. Would stand to reason they don’t use an animal codename when the engine it’s written in is an animal.
Yes, I like the idea of BTCC, ALMS etc… But I doubt we’ll get that lucky.
It’s funny. The big license they have, WTCC, is the one part of Evo I find horrible. Can’t stand those cars.

You have hope for the “new” engine Lizard? hahaha
Last week I played in the RacePro, there is nothing revolutionary that engine, is a simple revision of gMotor2 which adds HDR and some minor details, nothing more.

ISI wrote SimBin’s engine. They are the same game. When will people realize that it is all down to the FFB parameters in the PLR file and the mod that effect the feel. Have a look at the PLR file in GTR2. All the same FFB parameters as rFactor. ISI at least has a plug in system to allow for improved FFB beyond simply looking at tire grip like rFactor default/GTR2 do. rFactor is simply a newer version of the engine in GTR2 that models more aspects of the suspension and is completely open. I own both. Both are grate. I don’t see any reason for the extreme hatred towards ISI. If it wasn’t for ISI, where would SimBin be? When rF2 comes out and when and if SimBin makes a game of their own, then we will have something to debate/compare.

Most reasonable comment to this post so far. Well said.
Also, Jakob could mean a bunch of things… but first of all, remember that it is a very common Swedish name and that SimBin is Swedish. So it could just be the name of the employee at SimBin who came up with the idea for this expansion/new game. Let’s see.

Although I love rF, GTR2 has always had the edge in realism and immersion and just lacked the variety of rFactor’s mods.
What I really want to see is an LMS/ALMS race sim produced by SimBin – outside of F1 surely ALMS must be one of the most lucratice licenses?
My dream list!:
- 2008 Le Mans Series tracks and cars
- 2008 American Le Mans Series tracks and cars
- 2008 Le Mans 24 hours circuit and cars
- Lizard engine
- Better sounds
That would be the ultimate sim for me!

anyone notice the GINETTA series that is showcased?
http://www.cararticles.co.uk/uk-ginetta-to-race-in-the-usa.html
says the Ginetta is comming to the USA, SimBin has mentioned an upcomming title with USA tracks and “muscle” cars
a simple Google query for SimBin+Ginetta produced some very interesting results…

ermax18: there are FFB and suspention code differences in the games themselves, I actually run the same FFB values in all of my ISI games, and I am heavily involved in modding.
GTR2 does not need “realfeel” because it is in the game code for the SimBin ISI engine ( for example )
ermax18
April 8th, 2009 at 06:06
morning_wood, SimBin’s engine doesn’t use rack forces for FFB. It uses grip levels. There for no, RealFeel is not built into the code.
