I think you could have told a little about other sims like netkar-pro, live for speed and iracing, which are without doubt one step above Simbin's titles.

But the considerations about real x virtual cars and races from the real race drivers were well instructives.

Begin a simracer, are always good to have some feedback from real race drivers.

Overall a nice article.

The real life driver do not really have enough experience with race sims to make qualified comments, for example he complained that the brakes locked too easily. Well, the brake pedal on the g25 is travel based, and its very easy to achieve 100% brake force. In a real car there's ofc no 100% brake force, as the braking is not travel based, but its based on the amount of pressure the driver is putting on the brake pedal. If the real life driver had been using a pressure sensitive cell for measuring his braking instead of the potensiometer based system in the g25 i'm sure his view would have been somewhat different

Shake up is the movement going on: SimBin invading console market, Lizard arriving, rFactor 2 being developed. Quite a big shake imo.

Blimey never answered to my repeated requests for interviews. That's the reason why.

We would have many questions to ask them !

My only question is what is the shake up coming? Which new developer/game is coming? No mention of Blimey!

That would be so expensive at the present day, that i personnaly would prefer to buy myself a real racecar with the money

And i'm sorry, but a simulator is a simulator. You will never reach the real with it. Science, displays, controls, do progress, do evolve towards a better experience. But the sim gets closer to the real asymptotically. You'll never see them crossed.

Except, of course, if we're talking Matrix, with neurological display directly in your brain. But that, as i wrote, is still to be invented. :???:

further to my earlier post...

have you ever seen the film predator... remember the cloaking device the predator used to hide himself..

do some google searchng..and you will see, if you have enough money time and brains...anything is possible.

there is nothing to stop us creating the ultimate simulator..
as long as the three key elements are there

TIME / MONEY / BRAINS...

I personally think that a near perfect simulator can and will be made.
Obviously the danger element will never exist , being able to kill yourself ina simulator whe hitting a wall at 180mph unless were talking the matrix just wont happen. simulators are to provide a safe but realistic environment, hence the killing part must never be there, or it isnt a sim anymore.

But this do not say that we cannot with development reproduce everything that car goes throug in real life, its just a question of development / money / time.

motion platforms are coming on in leaps and bounds ( having been in a military hercules simulator ) the effects are being tweaked and refined , and soon there will be a motion platform that can reproduce every part of what a car can do.

then the software , its all about development time , it is possible to make a peice of software do whatever you want given time to develop it.

the middle ground ..making real world motion platforms respond by softwae is the key..timing and accuracy. this is very much in practice in flight sims...it WILL be here in racing sims in the future..it all depends on....who wants to foot the bill to get it done.

Wix>

There's no mention of the Historix mod because all this has been written a couple of months ago.

It was first published in french in my league magazine, and then i translated it and updated some lines, or removed some rumours about the still unknown back then addon to Race'07.

Thank you Jean-Francois for this profesionally and impartially writen article.Thank you also Montoya(Rob) for publishing it.It really made me remember why I love SimRacing.
As for the discussion about the lack of grip I have to agree with Pierre-Yves as I think that a lot of modders and game devs use less grip from tires and more grip from aero downforce (less and more than in reality) to achieve the same laptimes. One of the biggest mistakes I've seen is when you lose the car ingame and start sliding the grip is gone and I mean GONE.
I used to drift a 1995 BMW M5 to pieces(not profesionally tough) and I have to say that in reality you still have grip from the tires even when you slide.
Anyway, thank you Jean-Francois I really enjoyed the article!

1. "all SimBin’s titles have always been based on ISI’s engine: GMotor2"
2. "the GTR-Evolution, and the STCC addon also scheduled for 2008, should logically be the last SimBin projects using GMotor1"
- So they're using GMotor1 or GMotor2 now?

The general idea is that to him, GTR1 was not good, GTR2 was better, and Race'07 even better, with more driving feelings but still with a lack of grip.

That's what you have to read in all this.
