A week ago, Simbin announced another PC project named “Jakob”, to be released in 2009. Of course, the whole community started guessing what Jakob was right away, even though Project TOAD showed us that their project names do not always contain hints.
It might be a different case with Jakob as Racedepartment’s Ramon van Rijn has done some research and came up with some interesting facts. Jakob isn’t just the codename of Simbin’s upcoming title, it was also the nickname of the first ever built Volvo – The Volvo ÖV4 of 1927. Of course, a 72-year old car isn’t much of a hint, Jakob came back to life in 2008 though when Volvo unveiled a new hot rod design study based on their legendary first model.
The 2008 Jakob can be seen below, the car is powered by a 2.5 liter five-cylinder engine putting out 265hp. The fact that Volvo, just like Simbin, is a Swedish company throws another hint in the mix. Will Jakob be a title about Volvo automobiles?

Surely it’ll just be WTCC 09?

Some Simbin employee who wants to stay unknown in the community already said the codename has nothing to do with the game.

Um, I don’t remember reading something about Simbin extending the WTCC license deal – which would be a requirement if they wanted to make an ‘09 expansion.
@article: We now had MAMBA, FROG and TOAD. None of these codenames had anything to do with the GTR Evo, STCC and Race On expansions. Why should it be any different with JAKOB?

A simulation game based on Volvo’s….
For some odd reason I’m gonna have to say probably not. The word Volvo doesn’t exactly ignite the gasoline in my veins. Though it would be an interesting sim… hey I don’t care what it’s based on, as long as Simbin get’s their sh!t together and stops being lazy in their development, I’ll start buying their titles again.

I hope its not that. I mean i know they’re trying to impress American markets with all the Muscle car rubbish but a Volvo hotrod? no thanks

I think people are just looking into it far to much, putting 2 and 2 together and coming out with 7.

The code names are only to create hype. SimBin knows that people go nuts and try and figure out what the next expansion is about. The expansions are meant to keep us interested. I believe that they are using most of their time to perfect the Lizard engine for the PC. You know, they do have to compete with rFactor, and the upcoming rFactor 2. Honestly, to all you crazy people, just be patient. We’ll get something nice, when the work is done.

This whole guessing game is totally silly. Why can’t they just tell us what it’s about?

Because it builds hype which in turn brings it to more peoples attention, which equals cheap advertising, lol

I doubt it has anything to do with Volvo. That said if it is a Vovlo sim of some kind, I think I’ll pass. I mean Volvos are pretty boring to drive let alone simulate.

I sort of doubt this car will be created by SimBin. But in case anyone is curious, you can see more pictures of this car here:

In the case you like that Volvo roadster, it was reviewed some months a go in the Top Gear magazine (yep, the paper one, not the TV program)

Oooooh, I like that GTL2/GTL Evo/whatever idea. I’d buy that in a second. That would make all kinds of sense given the popularity of P&G and Historix. If they still own the rights to the GTL models, which are some of the finest car models in all of sim-racing even after all this time, it would be pretty easy to implement. Also, the historic touring car license probably isn’t particularly expensive and would mesh well with the whole Touring/GT theme of the game.
Naturally this is just wild speculation, but this would pretty much be the number one on my list of desired possibilities. If it turns out to just be another WTCC season, meh.
Wishful thinking of course, but I it’s certainly not beyond the realm of possibilities.

I still say it’s a “Lost” game… Maybe those camper vans the Dharma Initiative drove.

If the leaked info about Race Pro’s DLC is correct then Historic GT’s and Tourers could well be Jakob

It was leaked well before that!! December 2008.
Race pro wasn’t even out.
