It’s nice to see this site flourish as up to now sim racing has had no decent video reviews.

Let’s be fair to SRT, they had some great reviews in the past too !
    They’ll be back…

But Doug clearly has a talent for this, I also enjoy his reviews very much.

I’ve never seen SRT do anything great, lol, but that’s of course my opinion and why I don’t watch it. This guy, I watch.

Doug does a fairly good job of presentation but I’ve personally tried to find value in his reviews and he falls short. I have yet to see him actually run a lap in anything. How about a Sim Racing Review versus SRT race off! ;-) Petrolhead, your free to join too.. Meet me on iRacing Doug, lets do some racing in some of that gear you have !! Your Fanatec stuff versus me in my Thrustmaster..

I feel the same like this guy in video :)

You know what, me to, never seen anything great from those guys to!!!! I´m sticking to simracingreview from now on!!!!

I just dont like the videos. Kind of like watching the boring professor in college talk about things. I appreciate the passion from this guy, but he does nothing to really keep me watching. I wish he would drive more too but I’m guessing he’s not that good and doesn’t want to embarass himself, lol.

I always appreciate reading the comments (although the good ones a bit more than the picking ones ;-) I do think that a shot of the driving would demonstrate the stability of this cockpit but other than that, watching someone else drive is about as much value (and exciting!) as watching grass grow….And when you’re an economics professor, all those who don’t care about the subject think you’re boring….So I won’t let that one get to me….

And Darin….You are starting to mellow. I think there was even a little compliment in there…thanks! The world is definitely big enough for us both. Different styles and ways of approaching this is a good thing!

The fact is that it’s better for the community if we have a variety of different sim racing video/podcasts to choose from, as is now beginning to happen. Worth remembering, too, that these things almost invariably evolve from humble beginnings. Doug, I think you’ve got it absolutely right with how you’re pitching it. Agreed that close ups and detailed analysis of the product are much better than watching someone meaninglessly turning in laps.

You’re totally entitled to your opinions, of course, but for me this little show goes into significant depth on products that might be worth considering. The reviews are balanced and detailed.

Darin, you guys put out a great show this week, but I would have thought it best to leave Doug to his own style and you guys to your style. Why would you want Doug to produce a show that clones your own. Vive le difference, say I. Best wishes.

Thanks Chris…I think you have it absolutely correct! My feelings are that there is room for a variation of takes on this industry. There are a lot of people out there (from around the world and of vastly different cultures) that are incredibly enthusiastic about Sim Racing. Even among close friends I find that not everyone likes the same thing. So we as enthusiasts are better for the variety.

Amen to that ! I like ISR and watch all their shows, but I think Darin’s comment there was a little unnecessary. It came across as a ‘lets see if yours is bigger than mine’ kinda thing. I don’t think Shaun would say something like that.
Let Doug do his own thing his own way. His stuff clearly helps people out and there is a place for him here to say his stuff.

Love your attitude Doug. Its right and I hope you can spread it.

Thank you my friend…I’m always humbled just to be a part of all this.

@DougSimRacingReview I dont think Darin was saying he wanted to watch you do laps, just more or less show the equipment being used for what it is intended for. Watching you sit in a seat with no monitors or real life setup to go with it, makes it hard to visualize this product in my “man cave”
You may believe that its the subject that determines wether people are interested or not, but I disagree. I hated macroeconomics in college but I had a very crazy off the wall professor who’s personality drew in the class and made it interesting. I found myself taking a lot more knowledge away from that class, that I started out dreading, than if I would have been listening to a boring professor spilling boring information.
You are right about one thing though, I’m not interested in the GT Omega rig. I’m such a sim nerd that I have build everything myself from 2×4′s and plywood. I have hammered, stapled, screwed, and soldered my way into a realistic experience, and I guess I am a bit cynical about people who just fling money around to buy the best of the best. There is no passion in that as far as I’m concerned.
Either way, if people are looking for a straightforward, direct to the point, informative review, than you are their guy, and congrats on a job well done. If you are like me and want some flare, fun, and entertainment in your reviews, than you may want to look elsewhere.
I’m in no way trying to crap on you as a person Doug, just giving an opinion. Not all viewers are the same :)

  • Nathan Robinson

Thank you Chris for being civil. We are all different and not everyone is going to like the same thing. I find Doug’s show rather stale for my personal tastes. Thats not a knock on Doug or his personal character, I’m just more of a fan of bolder personalities.

Well, thanks for the great explanation Nathan… It is much appreciated. I really do appreciate hearing ppeople’s takes, it is just sometimes the internet allows us to talk a bit bolder (and sometimes more to the point) than we would in person. Not your comment specifically, but in general.

You oddly hit a strange (an old) nail on the head with your ‘old professor’ comment as many years ago I started my career as a college prof – of course I was young and hippy then ;-) I wanted to try to come up with something snide to say about that, but just couldn’t….
If you’ve seen any of the other sim rig reviews I do, I think they all (or most at least ;-) had actual driving in them….but this time my whole rig was set up on another machine. I really could get a feel for this rig with the wheel and pedal installed..and plan to do a (show me driving) review when I get the mods mentioned done.
I do think it’s great that no matter what our specific interest is that we often in our quest for ‘anything sim racing’ gain a broader knowledge of ‘all things sim racing’
