Shift 2 Unleashed – Cover Art, Release Date + New Info

A bunch of new material regarding Slightly Mad Studios’ Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed title has surfaced as Amazon.com now lists the title and reveals the cover art.

Amazon lists the release date as March 8 2011, giving us a rough idea on when the title will be available. Keep in mind though that online retailers are notoriously unreliable when it comes to release dates, the fact that EA has already announced a Spring release backs the Amazon date though.

Furthermore, Shift 2 was previewed in the most recent issue of the German PC Games magazine. Their article revealed some new info, stating that Shift 2 will include 140 cars, including the already announced FIA GT1 & GT3 cars as well as prototypes – It seems there will be no shortage of sports car material in the upcoming title.

The article also confirms that Shift 2 will include night racing as well as Suzuka as one of the new tracks. There’s some rather bad info too though as the article states that players can race against 15 opponents, meaning that a full simulation of the FIA GT1 & GT3 Championships would not be possible.

On a brighter note, the article mentions a new “Elite” physics mode that aims to please simulation gamers, a feature that seems to have been scrapped from the first Shift shortly before its release as revealed a few weeks ago.

Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed will include the 2010 FIA GT1 World Championship & GT3 European Championship among lots of other racing content, the second Shift is due to be released in Spring 2011.

The Elite physics system sounds interesting and i like the cover art, it’s very GTR2 like

140 cars.. FIA GT1/3 and some Prototypes?  Sounds tasty.  Do away with the circus crap on the tracks and improve the controls some and this game will be a must buy.

Nah, 16 car races does not cut it. Not at all.

I don’t get this big obsession with platform parity. Sure the 360 or PS3 can’t support 24 car grids, but my PC can do it. So let it be able to without having to use mods. The entire PC version of Shift felt like an afterthought.

Holy shit. when i read 140 cars, GT1, GT3 and Prototypes, i wanted to jizz in my pants.
    Elite physcis? NICE!

    But…dudes…only 16 cars?
    Oh come on!
I want to dream of a Le Mans Series grid of 32 cars.

The only thing i now wait for, to have real hopes for this titel, are full race weekends and pits.

this cover art is much better than shift.. but it makes me think the cars are to huge to fit into the cover..
    elite physics mode is catchy

  • scca1981

I’m sure we’ll find a way to mod it to allow more cars.

  • Stu

It wouldn’t matter if the game supported 50 car grids if no one was playing it.

If I want pick-up and play races with my favourite mods there are rarely more than half a dozen playing.

    Still no weather effects?

I can’t believe that still isn’t a standard this gen.

  • Bob

The first Shift needs an ‘elite physics’ patch and more tracks. Just adding Suzuka for the cost of the whole game is carp.

I smell conspiracy! really I do.

“the fact that EA has already announced a Spring release backs the Amazon date though”

You mean Amazon managed to guess a date that was in Spring? Wow, impressive stuff.
