the_meco is making excellent progress on his Shelby Cobra mod for Assetto Corsa as a new preview & status update show.

As you can see in the preview below, the_meco has finished the texturing work on the car’s interior and is nearly done with the exterior as well. With the first-pass physics set to be completed soon as well, the Cobra is quickly heading towards its first release.

The car has come a long way, starting out as gorgeous looking model and now receiving all the ingredients to be a fun car in-game. To follow the car’s development step by step, make sure to check out the past stories on the Cobra.

  • Marcel

Great work, i loved to drift this beast in GT5 at Autumn Ring and this will be much more fun in Assetto Corsa 🙂

  • GamerMuscle

The car model looks stunning !

Open top cars like this will feel awesome with the oculus rift , was driving the single seater cars in RF2 and its like you can reach out and touch the road.

    • fkkamil

But still waiting for release of the finished Oculus Rift.
      Any expectations?

      • GamerMuscle

DK2 arives this month/within a week or two and next month for people that order now.

DK2 resolution is still to low for practical sim-racing but its good enough for a lot of VR games, Game development and the head-tracking is awesome.

Consumer rift should be within the year and will probably have 1440p screen maybe higher, Its going to be smaller and lighter than the DK2

I would have thought the consumer rift will likely be a good device to use even if its not better than three screen set-ups VR a thing in and of itself is incredible.

      • fkkamil

I’m not sure if you can be faster with rift than with static monitor view. For sure better immersion and excitement but for hotlapping/racing? I don’t know.
        I hope I’m wrong:)
Faster or slower – it doesn’t matter. I’m buying rift the day before release:)

      • GamerMuscle

I’m sure you could get to within 1 second of a record lap with the rift.

Thing is hot lapping is more just memory and replication than it is reacting to things.

One awesome thing with the rift is that you can keep your head perfectly still and it will stay still the tracking is really good.

      • fkkamil

So can’t wait for customer version 🙂

      • AussieStig

Hey all this is a direct quote from an Oculus employee after using the DK2 and Assetto Corsa:

”It is absolutely mind-blowingly incredible in DK2. That game is gonna sell a lot of racing wheels.”

I have mine ordered and hoping it gets here fast.

      • GamerMuscle

Yah I follow a lot of VR sites and groups and keep up on the general “VR culture”.

VR seems to be pushing a lot of people in the direction of driving simulators and FFB wheels people that would not normally give it a look I think VR is going to be a massive boost to PC gaming especially simulation.

    • F1Racer

How long are your arms ? 😀

  • Jeremy Roberts

This is simply wonderful. Requires a couple of fans for added immersion.

  • ftrracingtv

Looks amazing we need more classic cars in PC sims there are too many GT3 type cars these days

  • Wim

At this time, the most interesting mod project in progress, IMO.

  • F1Racer

That does look very good ! I like driving the historical cars and this is a great car to start off with from the modders. Can’t wait.

  • Roger Wallentin

    Looks absolutely topp class!!

Hope you find some really good sounds to match! The 427 big block sounds like a monster!

  • Silvio

All this work just for passion 🙂
What we can say? Thank you?

  • Chris Wright

Looking good, actually looking very good.

  • Eduardo Z.

Does anyone know if the cockpit LCD displays will be improved? I love AC, but damn, the LCDs are too low-res and simple… like 70% of the stuff dont work (oil temp, and stuff like that) :/

    • melanieuk1

You’ve got a case of parrot-titus, two post on virtualR and both asking the exact same stupid question, please do tell us on which sim does the oil temp work? and if any racing sim does have working oil temp what effect does it have on the sim, please do say or is it a case of let’s troll for the sake of trolling.

      • Eduardo Z.

Posted 2 times because no one answered on the other one, and I cant find any answers regarding this on their forums.

FYI, just to name a few: iRacing, GTR2 have working oil/brakes/tyre temps depending on the car.

        Mclaren MP4-12C in iRacing.

Compare to Assetto Corsa and you’ll see the difference.

And nope, I’m not an iRacing fanboy, never even played that game…its just disappointing to have only gear/rev indicator in such modern cars, specially when old games like GTR2 have that feature.

BTW, I think you’re the troll here.

      • Eric S

We all hope that this will be implemented by V1. Im sure Kunos will give us better cockpits and higher res displays. No reason to crap on him asking a question twice btw @ melanieuk. He just wants an answer.

      • melanieuk1

His not going to get the answer he wants on VirtualR though, where else can he get the answer to his question if he cant find it on the official assetto corsa forum, unless you know more than the developers.

      • Eric S

Regardless, that doesnt warrent your childlike response. Grow up.

      • Eduardo Z.

4 months have passed, we are on V1 (feature complete in theory) and still no sign of improvements regarding the cockpit instruments..

I’m starting to think I picked the wrong sim. No engine/brakes management, braindead AI, not to mention the lack on day/night cycle and dymanic weather, no flag rules, no pit stops for AI… and multiplayer is a mess….

For a guy that loves endurance races, this is a real turn off.

I love Assetto Corsa’s physics and graphics, but that’s it. It has basically become a time attack simulator :/.

Still hoping for the best, until then, I’m sticking to GTR2

      • Patrik Marek

pCARS also does have a lot of stuff on motec, Tire&brake &water&oil temperature, oil pressure , time gap,, and quite a lot more that I can’t remember from the top of my head, most cars that have MOTEC have 3 screens showing various information

I’m expecting AC to improve here as well, they have the base code in there, so they just need to expand it

they also said that they will improve the resolution

      • F1Racer

Lay off melanie, there was no need for that. He wasn’t trolling as far as I can see.
These kinds of responses, we don’t need.

      • bduddy

Tons of sims have working oil temperature, starting at NR1. As for impact on the game, uhh, how about the engine exploding?

  • Patrik Marek

if all modded cars will get to this level, boy we are in for a treat 🙂

    • Birddogg66

Then get crackin you have got a lot done already!

      • Patrik Marek

yep, lot is done already, but still lot to do, and I have 3 major projects that I’m working on right now

I smell announcement of one of them soon(ish)

    • Mar Mar

      Damn look at the reflections!

  • Birddogg66

    Beautiful work!

  • The Dark

i love these cars from racing them in historix mod and PnG mod. it will be good to see them in the new sims. i hope they do it justice.

  • myvracelog

track and the car looks nice.

  • melanieuk1

We could be getting this content soon.

    • Michael Hornbuckle

He is aiming to release tomorrow….which is now today!!!!!!!!! So Soon!!!!
