Sebring by Virtua_LM – First Previews

Below is an exciting batch of previews as the masterminds behind the superb Mid Ohio Sports Car Course have just revealed their newest rFactor track project – Sebring International Raceway.

Located in Florida, Sebring is one of the USA’s well known motorsport venues, hosting the annual 12 hour sports car race in March. The track is a rather though one as the raceway is located on a former airfield, most of the circuit utilises concrete pavement with plenty of bumps that have already knocked out the bolts and pieces of many cars.

The first batch of previews show various well-known details around the 3.7 mile road course. Given these early shots are already very impressive and the team’s track record, rFactor users will be in a for a real treat with this one.

  • Uff

I learned Mid-Ohio thanks to their track and I think the story will repeat with Sebring too: I’ve never raced there, but it would be a pity not to make justice to such a beautiful work!

  • phil23

A great track getting the Virtua_LM treatment. This is excellent news

  • ric

What a good surprise for a Monday morning.

Having raced at VirtuaLM’s Le Mans and Mid-Ohio, I’m not gonna be worried for the future of this project. I know it’s going to be a top-notch track.

  • Growla

Looks great, Mid-Ohoi is an absilute masterpiece, and this Sebring Track looks like it will be a winner too. One thing that puzzles me is why has the Fugi track not been completed/released. Its been @95% complete over at RFC’s WIP section for nearly a year. I’d like to ask the VLM Guys for some feedback on this.
    Thanks

  • DeDios

    great!!!! :sd:

  • ForzaBarca88

Hard not to look forward to this with their track record – Rouen, Le Mans, Mid Ohio all stunning tracks…
Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself but since you’ve already done Le Mans and currently working on Sebring, does that mean Daytona is somewhere down the track?

  • Klaas Jan

Excellent choice of track! If only VLM would be releasing the cars to race as well….

  • Mr. A

Great news! This I will be looking forward to very much. Although this type of track is not usually the kind I like, Sebring is one of my favourite US tracks. I’ve been wanting a good rFactor version for quite some time.

    BIG thanks to Virtua_LM! :sd:

  • vik15

Looks nice. Too much grey maybe, even for a cloudy day. Nevertheless looking forward to test it.

  • http://www.srrs-racing.net/ ermax18

vik15, I have to agree. The track surface is much lighter. Most surfaces of the track are almost white in real life. Even the iRacing version seems a little to dark. The track surface at Sebring has LOTS of character which I am sure VLM will add with time. The detail in the track side objects is amazing though. I can’t wait for this one.

  • 2point8

My hands already hurt just looking at those screenshots and thinking of how much abuse this bumpy track will produce on a G25 + RealFeel.

I cant wait! Now if we just had some sweet Prototype-C cars to enjoy it with… :sd:

  • Mitos

Wonderful job as always, but I can`t to agree with that:

Klaas Jan: Excellent choice of track!

Excellent choice is modeling of european tracks… Take a break in the modeling of american trash.

  • commodore

Like Mid-Ohio it looks too gray. If you google for photos of Sebring (or any track really) then you’d see it’s nothing like these images.

  • ForzaBarca88

Sebring trash? Do you even like racing?

And in any case VLM have done just as many european tracks as American ones

  • JGoenR

Looks like another quality track from VLM is coming to rFactor. Well done VLM!

  • Mitos

    Bjorn: Imbecile.

    Your surname.

  • jdb

The iracing version is amazing  , You must try it.

At least I don`t call people idiots and do not look for their messages with target to form opinion about a person… My congratulations ermax18.

  • carbonfibre

My only crit is the “overcast look” as well. But then again, isn’t that the Virtua_LM theme for all their tracks?

The world lighting engine in rFactor is hardly sophisicated but I say it’s better having it consistent like this for the sake of rFactor graphics looking more pleasing overall at those shades. (debatable?)

Possibly when the time comes to port all Virtua_LM tracks to rF2, that consistency will greatly reduce the shader work needed to make them shine better and it’s so fun to speculate on this.

No, instead you insult people’s home contry calling their tracks “American Trash”. What responce would you expect from people with a coment like that? A quick search showed you consistently act like a child.

Thanks for the congrats though!

  • moppenheimer

Am i the only one who likes the greyish lighting VLM uses? It looks better than 99% of rf tracks

  • http://www.bsimracing.com BSR-WiX

as usual, this is going to be a stunning piece of work. nothing more to say. Virtua LM is 120% quality and passion. I am really looking out for this one.

  • phil23

moppenheimer: Am i the only one who likes the greyish lighting VLM uses? It looks better than 99% of rf tracks

I do. Gives them a realistic feel

  • Mitos

“to act like a child” means to form an opinion about a person on the basis of several short messages. By the way… I forgot to put quotation marks in the “congratulations”… so please.

  • http://www.srrs-racing.net/ ermax18

“A quick search showed you consistently act like a child”

It wasn’t an opinion.. it was a fact. Now.. enough of the childish ranting and back on topic.

  • http://www.srrs-racing.net/ ermax18

Howie47: The track is grey, except in the really bright Florida sun.

Having been there a gazillion times in real life, I will say it is much lighter in color then those pore quality videos show. When the sun is out it is almost blinding.

  • paupau

Was I surprised to read this a few minutes ago, in my opinion, despite comment made previously i’d say Virtua has a good sense on choosing favourable tracks to mod. I would most like to see progress made on Le Mans 1991-1996, Sebring is a nice track to consider among also. And those screens look alot like fun inside :)

  • dknine

i was surprised aswell, didn’t think VLM were much active anymore, because i didnt see anything about the le mans track. but very nice, i look forward to sebring it looks beautiful :ooo:

but is release near? or is it still far away from release?

  • RKipker

Hope this is out before snow hits the southeast this July… :sd:

J/K, looking forward to this and the C-Mod someone from VLM is doing as well.

  • fpol

Sorely needed. The versions currently out there for rFactor (GTR2 as well) are – in terms of layout – no way a proper representation of the real track, all feeling claustrophobic which in no way represents the wide open feel of the real thing.

If only these guys would take on ViR after they’re done with Sebring (oh i know, to many ‘trashy’ American tracks) but at least many European tracks have at least a decent version available from Simbin.

  • Lincoln Miner

fpol, a bit off topic, but good news. The latest Cat Herder talks about an upgraded transmission model in the next build. 4 weeks… :-)

Oh, and love the VLM Mid-Ohio and LeMans tracks. :-)

If I tell you I was their before you were born; would that carry any weight? Born, raised and live in Fl. The 12 hr. race is in March. The skys aren’t that bright in the winter months in florida. So maybe that is why the videos are grey like the mod?! Maybe, you think?

DUDE….THANKS, I’m gonna go check out the cat herder now. Taking my winter brake from iRacing anyway – need to get away so it’s fresh again and having fun with my older stuff.
Ok back to this (sorry all Lincoln knows my ‘issues’ ;)).

But the sky in the screenshots doesn’t look overcast. The race is in Spring (March) so it is very common to have clear skys. When I think of Sebring, I think of concrete with tar patches, not aged black top. It is a WIP though. Who knows how it will turn out.

BTW, I was not trying to discredit you. I was simply pointing out my experiences with the track. Sorry if I came off wrong.

  • FS

This is good news! For some reason I really like that track. It was my favorite in Total Immersion Racing, and I was hoping for a better rFactor version then the one we have. I do love the 1970 version by the way, amazing track! But now finally the modern layout!
I do fear the bumps though … yes, it is a bumpy track, it MUST have bumps, but please make them realistic?
I still hate the unrealistic strong hits in the wheel in the Dunlop Curve of the VLM Le Mans track! (I can’t imagine this is a wanted effect) Actually I haven’t driven it for ages just because of that … love Mid-Ohio and Rouen though.

Based on their sky texture I doubt they wanted to make it looks totally overcast. It rather looks like they are working on very wrongly saturated and too much bright displays. They need a spyder or something. Last spyder is only 89.

  • FS

hm, it actually does look a bit like a sad and rainy/cloudy day on the screenshots. But this track has just been announced and we are looking at the first previews! And we are discussing the final touches! On the basis of 5 screenshots!
Plus, many parts of the track have a tarmac surface. Only one of the screenshots features the concrete one … that does seem a but too dark, but anyways, have you noticed the stunning details around the track? The very subtle “elevation changes” (bumps) in the third screenshot, behind the bridge?
    This looks very promising!

Lovely, VLM sure know how to raise the bar – perhaps they tend to use sepia-colours a bit too much, but thats their trademark I guess. It sure beats those tracks where the colours are just screaming in your face, in a cartoonish kinda way.

A decent version of Sebring is much appreciated, looking forward to it…

  • dumrick

It’s great to see that VLM keeps working on bringing us some of the most relevant tracks in sportscar racing. They are the reference and never fail to stun us with their releases.

As for the colour palettes chosen, I believe that tone balancing the way they do it undoubtly contributes to have a more realistic feel. The real world isn’t cartoonish and the contrasts we usually perceive in colours aren’t as striking as many other modders make them.

I’m still patiently waiting for PTC and GTX5 also, to race in these amazing tracks…

  • Howie47

If they did make it as bright as the real thing in summer. We would have to wair sun glasses or visors to drive it. So realism doesn’t always work on the computer racing enviroment.

  • CrippleHorse

I always thought V_LM would start working at this track at some point.
Granted, Sebring looks blindingly sunny in many pics, but this is slightly sunny, not anywhere near overcast, it’s not true that V_LM tracks generally look cloudy, only Mid-Ohio and I wouldn’t say tracks like Le Mans and Rouen are undersaturated, just not cartoony. In any case you can’t tell which time of the day the pics represent. I am convinced that these guys know what they’re doing and are incapable of giving something less than a masterpiece so telling them that Sebring is usually sunny seems pointless to me.

  • CrippleHorse

By “In any case you can’t tell which time of the day the pics represent” I meant that maybe it will be accepted by most that the loghting looks natural if it’s say 7 in the morning.
